Tom Brady has put up 10 points on three occasions this season. I'm pretty sure Belichick didn't build this defense thinking "Schitt, we need to hold teams to 9 points to win games on the road". There's only so much $ you can spend on a team, and Belichick probably thought Edelman, Gronkowski, his shiny first round running back, Burkhead, Hogan, etc could put up points consistently.
Consider this, through 14 games the New England Patriots and their quarterback who has all the answers to the test have failed to score more than 20 points FOUR times through 14 games. This is a historically bad number for Brady.
I went back through Brady's last 10 seasons (didn't include the Brisett shutout vs Buffalo) and the last time a Patriots team was held below 21 four times in the first 14 games was 2013, and before that it was the 2009 garbage team who failed to break 21 five times.
Everything is more difficult for this offense, and it starts with Brady. Brady has become an average quarterback before our eyes this season. His stats are middle of the road, his performances have been inconsistent.
Belichick was 100% right in trying to get rid of Brady - the coach is surgical in his dumping players a year early as opposed to a year late. I really hope Krafty Bob is enjoying the extra kisses from Brady this season; I hope it was worth it Bob...
