Gordon being held out for a quarter tonight at Buffalo for being late

Sorry, but we can't have that:

Guy showed up late, so he's being benched for a quarter or so. Until we know the 'how' and 'why' of it, so to speak, reading into this is folly. After all....

"He's got good feet."

But that won't stop it from being overblown.

(Not exactly a response to your post but i will piggy back off part of it).

I don't understand why people are calling this overblown. I don't think it means he is on the verge of being cut but it does matter.

This isn't just a guy being late. This is JOSH GORDON being late.

If Tom Brady showed up for a practice or flight late and got disciplined it wouldn't be a long term story. We know that is highly unusual for Tom Brady.

This is not highly unusual behavior for Josh Gordon. That is the problem with this story. That is why this story matters more. Even if he was late for completely innocent reasons it still is a story. It doesn't matter WHY he is late (unless the reason is not completely innocent). The fact he is late is a big story.

It shows he is not turning over a new leaf.

This is stupid. It ****ed us over when we did that to Welker for making fun of Rex's foot fetish and it could quite feasibly **** us over tonight. You're not punishing Gordon, you're punishing the season.

I (surprisingly, even to myself) disagree on this. For two reasons. First, you do this now so you hopefully don't have to do it in the playoffs. And two, you do this now because there's no game that's safer to do this with the entire season than a Bills team that's basically given up and is quarterbacked by a 35 year old who's thrown 180 passes in the NFL since January 2011 and has thrown an interception on nearly 1 in 10 passes in the last four years.

He was late, he’s gonna learn. He got his strike. Relax people.

Welker thing didn’t seem that serious so I agree, but being on time is kinda a part of the culture here.

"I place discipline above all else and it might have cost us several titles. But if I had to repeat things I’d do it precisely the same because discipline has to come before anything else." - Sir Alex Ferguson

Think BB pretty much lives by this

R-E-L-A-X - Rodgers

The news reports about interest in receivers predate the impetus for this discipline, though.
True. I updated my post to partially. There could, and probably is, more going on behind the scenes than this.

dooomed, we're dooomed seriously, this is equivalent to putting your toddler in timeout what will matter most is how Gordon accepts this, or not

Its been a minute since we were in a negative headline huh?!

Seems entirely unfair for folks to immediately pile on Gordon without knowing the context and details of what occurred.

To suggest that not punishing Gordon would be "enabling" him is nonsense. Enabling him to do what, exactly? Get stuck in traffic? Set his alarm for "PM" instead of "AM"? Look, I don't know what happened, nor does anyone else, but I'm not going to jump to the conclusion that a late arrival should be seen as a character fault or a direct result of his previous issues with substance abuse ... to make such a connection is understandable but seems entirely unfair and premature.

I'm willing to give JG the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was an honest mistake and not due to a lack of conscientiousness on his behalf. Brady, BB, JMcD et al. have raved about the guy since his arrival.

It was just yesterday we were applauding him and his "breeding ground for excellence" quote, but the second he's tardy fans immediately assume the worst and turn their back on him. Sheesh.

I think it's more likely that their interest in a receiver is a nonsense rumor than that this has been an issue, but it's all just speculation. This seems like a fitting punishment for a minor crime. Other players have been disciplined similarly in the past. Hell, Welker had to sit a quarter in a playoff game.

I dont think it is a big deal in general but when you add his past to the equation it is a bit concerning. But lets wait and see and give the process a chance.

As far as releasing him and getting another receiver...who? no one - and DT is done....he makes a few catches here and there but he is lazy and thats the word on him here in denver.

So this is why BB was looking for a premium receiver. All starts to make sense.

Funny, I just posted late last week "lets give him more time with the Pats" before we accept him as one of the regulars. I hope he has a valid excuse not some BS story. Gronk is playing. I wonder when he was late? How long has BB been stewing?

He arrived late before the team left for buffalo yesterday. I am sure BB started looking for a WR before that.
