Rodgers to sign 4 yr/134 Mil extension

The NFL season is a war of attrition and having good player depth is critical to success. With a contract like the one Rogers just signed, there won't be much of a middle class player on the Packers. A lack of depth as a result of that contract will doom them to mediocracy for the contracts duration.

If my math is right, based on a $177m cap # in 2018 and the assumption it will go up from here AR $29m/ AAV) will consume 16% vs the cap in year 1 and continue to go down.

Pack can still field a very good team but they may need to go shopping at TJ Maxx in Worcester and not Rodeo Drive

I get that Rogers is talented but damn! Considering how he failed to remain healthy for a large amount of his career. And the number one reason the Packers can't win is due to a bad defense. Hope he enjoys his $100 million guaranteed and he protects his body in that process.

Well they think the defense will be improve this season. They drafted a couple of talented corners.

Brady continues to be vastly underpaid and a bonus with the incentives given to a 41 year old QB with castoffs at the WR position is an insult to Brady

And, again, we see how much Brady helps BB by taking less than he could get if he actually wanted to bend the team over the barrel.

And despite this, they find a bunch of castoffs at the WR position for him without getting him premium talent

Tough to win with that salary on the books, Favre isn’t walking through that door.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but Schefter is reporting that with the incentives in Rodgers' contract, it could go as high as $176-180M when all is said and done.

Supposedly Rodgers will get $67M by the end of the year and another $13M between Jan 1 and Mar 17th..

Supposedly Rodgers had 2 years remaining on his previous deal. I wonder if this replaces those 2 or if it's a true extention..

Yeah, I can’t believe he only gets to throw to one future Hall of Fame player this season.

Brady has always understood that to be a good craftsman and produce good work you need good tools.

Edit: And that encompases more than WRs, in fact, the whole team.

Ahh, yes. The "depth" argument. That would hold more water if the so-called gold standard, the N.E. Patriots, didn't have depth issues on pretty much a yearly basis.

A QB like Brady taking a little less money allows for an extra signing or two, which might theoretically bolster depth at a position or two, or allow for a slightly better player or two to be signed. That can certainly be a help under the right circumstances, but it doesn't change everything ever, because you're still dealing with a need to field 22 starters + special teams players + backups.

Or, to put it another way, Brady taking a few bucks less isn't why the Patriots won in 2014 and 2016. They won because Brady is Brady, and because a UDFA made a huge play at just the right time.

Brady taking a little less is a difference, no question. But, it's a difference. It's not the difference.

That was great when he was younger but can BB make his life a little easier at 41. He has one bit target in gronkowski. Get him another.

Yal are wild. I like JG. Like reaaally like JG. But we'll see how he does with a full season of film out on him.
Maybe. I've been a fan for a while now (2014 QB2) so I'm not surprised at his success tbh.

The "film" angle won't happen, if it does at all, until next year.

Honestly it's just something people say they think makes them sounds smart. Most have no clue what it means & couldn't explain it if their life depended on it.

KS playbook is as deep as there is in the league. They used maybe 15% last year. New weapons on both sides of the ball.

SF is real as is Jimmy.

This is so disingenuous it ignores that they are in the AFC championship or SB every year so that these guys can make these plays in those moments.

It's not disingenuous at all, and it ignores nothing. If you want to think that Brady taking a few bucks less is the reason the Patriots are in the AFCCG all the time, you're welcome to that delusion.

If you want to take a position that, literally, requires an interpretation of

"The only reason the Patriots won more than the Colts is that Peyton was paid more than Brady"

That's your choice.

No but there overall salary restraint/structure very much helps and Brady taking a few less bucks helps in a lot of ways.
