(Cyrus) had up and downs as DB yesterday but looked good as returner.

One of CJ's better moments at CB last night was when he had JC Jackson swap coverage assignments on the right side (Jackson was moved to the inside receiver, and then he had Jackson re-position himself - all just before the snap. CJ drew a blocker away and Jackson was able to get a solo TFL on the runner (3-yard loss).

He didn't look awful on KR

It was good to see Cyrus taking most of return snaps. At least he looks like a returner (still indecisive in catch phase) unlike McCarron who is basically perfecting his fair catching skills . It was good to see Patterson lined up as PR at one point (although all the way back) so hopefully he enters the mix as well at least in certain situations with less traffic expected..

Earning a DPI is a great way to end up in BB's doghouse because it's essentially giving another life to a drive.

Not for a rookie in preseason game who plays his guts out..

You quoted me out of context. The full context is:

Two DPI's last week. Earning a DPI is a great way to end up in BB's doghouse because it's essentially giving another life to a drive. But that wasn't not to be expected because he's such a raw talent (hence falling to the 7th round).

In other words, I'm fully expecting them to tolerate his rough start in last week's game.

It's pre-season and it's the Pats with BB but usually in the third game much more effort to win is shown than last night. This is what I am reading I couldn't watch the game because of no TV.

I know the 4th pre-season game usually is terrible without starters but I was going anyway it's in New Jersey where I am.

After the game last night I am going to save my money.

I hope season opener is better, should be, but still concerned.

Go Pats

Finally Dorsett got some targets and he made the most out of it. On that short pass by Brady where he ran around defenders for a first down he looked so much more elusive than Cooks ever did in space last year. He might have a slower top speed but he seems to be quicker in space.

hot take but could agree some . smooth move & (somewhat deceptive) acceleration..

i hope he builds on this and gets more confidence for some tougher YAC

"We weren't able to accomplish much, didn't play well in any of the three phases of the game, so [we've] just got to get back to work and do a better job than that."

Good luck, BB! Looks like you've got a tough job.

He had this quote ready before the game . and made sure he could use it..

But yeah, certain players certainly didn't help themselves last night..

I don't have time to read through the whole thread, but I feel like we are in trouble on offense for the first four weeks without Edelman. Not much there after Gronk & Hogan to take the pressure off of those 2. I wish we had known about Edelman's suspension before we let Danny Amendola go.

Good play by Grigsby on several ST returns and then he also got some LB snaps. Looked fast. Pretty much a roster lock for me.

Yep. Ahead of Sam and esp. M.Flowers who looked pretty underwhelming playing late. Have to re-watch his ST (was part of 1st units initially).

It felt like not the best day for our OL and DL. But I lost track about snap counts and how much the staff was rotating people around.

Looking forward to re-watch 1v1s. D units were improv like mentioned so no sense judging them. #1 OL did have some leakage so worth checking. T.Brown had some hicups again but also very strong plays.

I am not sure if Decker will make this team. McCarrons bad drops might help him in the end but him still not getting any snaps with the 1s spells problems.

If any of these two dobsons makes initial 53 ill be angry. If Decker makes it it means 2M down the drain for some ? 4-game vet insurance. McCarron showed nothing worth keeping. He would be cheap insurance who can fair catch . but very costly to lose some real potential on account of this. Also i believe they will both be available after 53 cutdowns if need be and BB can't get something better on the market..

Dorsett posted a 4.33/40 at the Combine. Seems to me that there's at least some potential for the Pats use of him on short-intermediate routes to allow for an effective double-move to a deep route on which Dorsett torches the coverage. Whether he catches such a pass or not is an open question, but it would still have a residual effect on coverages.

I don't disagree that it's not going to look like the smooth operation we've become accustomed to, but one caveat I'll put on last night is Gronk. While he "played" and got his feet wet in the preseason, I can't recall a single time the ball was even close to being thrown to him. I think the progressions were set to avoid him in the passing game. Let him run, let him block, let him shake off some cobwebs, but don't put him in a position where some young go getter is going to take out his knees.

I think once game planning starts for real, you're going to see a lot of Gronk, a lot of White, and a lot of Hogan. Good teams might be able to take advantage of that (Jax comes to mind), but it's not going to look like last night.

I thought Gronk was used last night (extremely carefully) for two reasons: 1. few healthy TEs left to play; 2. Evaluating Dorsett, Patterson possibly some others in coverage situations closer to reality (D having to account for Gronk at least half honestly..)

Which is what encouraged me about Dorsett. It seems like he has the ability (and trust from Brady) to take advantage of those matchups. Hopefully that continues to build and translates to week 1.

The Panthers first drive ate up 10 minutes...aided by a ridiculous phantom call by the reprehensible Torbert. How many games has Goondell slated the Pats to be ref'ed by Boger and Torbert? Here's a newsflash for all you believers in the purity of the NFL...when you see a penalty for an infraction that DID NOT OCCUR...that is NOT a mistake by the ref. This game was obviously an NFL buttressed "Third Game and CAYAMMMMMMMMM needs to look great!"production no matter what it takes or how many phantom BS calls need to be called. If anyone couldn't see this was just a trumped BS exhibition for the fans of Carolina, look no further than the 15 yard penalty on Waddle on the second drive down inside the 5. He was physically jumped into by that PUNK Panther safety before HE reacted but NOTHING for that azzole punk?

Right....got it Torbert...you pathetic POS lackey. The entire game skewed out of the Patriots control right there, not that it matters. The sense that the game is on the level matters.Obviously, it doesn't. Torbert is a bona fide scumbag, just like Boger. Roger's little nutsack boys. I hate this friggin' league since the Mad Hugger Goondell became commissioner.

Not to mention giving Carolina the ball back after Cams obvious fumble...

Good players have bad games, especially when there's nothing on the line. We know that. The troubling thing is that so many of those on the field didn't look like good players.

EDIT: +1 to your opinion about Decker and McCarron. Really disappointing.

Couldn't watch...how did our OT's do? Thanks.
