Pats sign Decker for a year.

Decker wasn't good at any of those things last season but, sure, if he suddenly becomes good again, it was a good move. I guess you were agreeing with me? It's tough to tell.
Decker caught 13 of 21 (62%) for 9 first downs (43%) on 3rd and 1-9 yards from a much worse qb than he will see this year.
The entire rest of the titans team caught 33 of 66(50%) for 26 first downs. (39%)
So I don’t think it’s coreect to say he wasn’t good on 3rd down. He certainly was a good blocker.

He wasn’t used much in the red zone but he caught 8/11 red zone targets.

He also proved to be a good big game player catching the game winning TD pass from 22 yards out vs the chiefs and going 6/85 against us.

We'll see how the Brady-Decker chemistry works out. I loved (or hated for being good) Decker when he was in Denver, and was glad he Seemed to take step back with the Jets. This may work out, and may make us stronger in the first 4 games. Me hopes.

I’ve been rip roaring mad at Belichick since the Super Bowl but any insinuation of racism in his personnel decisions is beyond absurd. Whoever it was who gave this hot take should go have a conversation with Jim Brown. A great American athlete who actually faced the full fury of segregation and racism and has spoken out glowingly on many occasions about Bill Belichick efforts on the behalf of African-Americans.

His catch rate was 65% last year.

Just for comparison
Hogan’s was 57.6%
Cooks 67.6
Gronk 77.4

Britts best yer was 61.3

Edelman’s best year 76.

He wasn’t as bad last year as some think he was.

Then they can go talk to Rick Kuhn about throwing games.

Of all of the moronic, uniformed opinions about Belichick offered.here and elsewhere (and there are loads of them in both places), the idea that he would make any decision based upon race is idiotic.

The WR group for the first 4 games leaves a lot to be desired. I expect more 12 personnel and a lot of carries for michel, white and burkhead.

I hope he maximizes his opportunity here.
That would be good for him and good for the team.

I actually expect more throws to them than carries.

Catch rate isn't a representation of a player's hands.

He had 8 drops last year.

He was targeted 83 times 63 of those balls were catchable.

Decker wasn't good last year, but who knows. If they can get 2015 Decker, that would be nice. More likely they get a Decker who's unemployed as of September.
It all depends on how fast he can gain chemistry with Brady and earn his trust. I'm curious at how much he is getting in his contract?

How's this for a theory? Much of the league has a bias believing that black receivers are just better at the position, leaving the overlooked white receivers available....and probably available for wholesale money. If there's a white privilege for jobs etc. based on an unconsious bias then it follows that there can be black priviledge based on a similar bias.

Not by itself, it's not. Type of routes, depth of target and (obviously) the QB, are all factors, too.

In 2016, Hogan's catch rate was 65.5% with a ypc of 17.9 yds, and 34% YAC. That's an excellent catch rate for that average target depth.

In 2017, Hogan's catch rate was 57.6% with a ypc of 12.9 yds, but 40% YAC.

With Gronk and Cooks available to cover the deeper target range, and with the absence of intermediate target range players (Bennett, Edelman, and Mitchell from 2016, with the latter two removed suddenly at the last minute), Hogan was covering significantly more intermediate range routes than he did in 2016. And he was struggling a bit with them. In contrast, Amendola (more practiced in those routes) had a 71% catch rate at nearly the identical depth of target, but with a lower YAC %.
