Brown was worn down last year. As you point out they won a SB and went to another one without Hicks. Additionally he didn't want to play here. Are you going to pay Hicks $10m AAV? Who do you cut?

All the lamenting is a waste.

He signed in 2016 for 2 years at 5M AAV. Which is close to what we gave Branch a year later because there were no other options. I agree that the lamenting is a waste but I was only pointing out that I think this was one of the bigger blunders in BB's roster building approach and doesn't get brought up at all.

You can claim all you want that he didn't want to play here but in the end money talks and if our offer would have been competitive and not made in call in the eleventh hour there would have been a way to keep him around. Lombardi alluded to that openly.

But whatever.. past things..

IIRC, Burkhead took reps at PR in 2017 Camp, too. Not really a big deal.

Don't recall that, don't have it in my notes. Even when Chung came in for Amendola in preseason game 2 Burkhead came in for Chung as personal protector. Maybe he did some KR . at times he was fully healthy that is.. Certainly something to monitor though.

Brown was often forced into a situation that he simply wasn’t built to do well. He’s not a 0 or 1-tech. He’s ideally a 2-tech. I’m expecting him to slide more into that role this year with Shelton and Valentine’s return and have a good season in a contract year.
Brown is fine. People expect him to be Cortez Kennedy and he's not

Why was is a blunder? Hicks went back to the GM who drafted him and basically guaranteed more playing time. Like they always do, Bill countered as its common practice not to bid against themselves but Hicks's mind was already made up.

Believe me, losing Hicks sucked but I'm not going to bash the team's personnel philosophy when it works 95% of the time.

I think people were thinking he’d be a good Wilfork replacement.

There were a lot of people who thought that, but it should have never been that way. He doesn't have enough sand in his ass to do what Wilfork did.

This 2018 Patriots OL have the making to be the best ever....

Brown - Wynn - Andrews - Mason - Cannon

That's a sick OL who cover the bases so to speak in both Pass Protection and Run Blocking. I don't see Brady getting hit alot behind that OL. It has the potential to be like that Raider OL that protected Rich Gannon years ago he barely got touched at times you couldn't even see him behind them. P.s. you can see that BB thinks very highly of Wynn, if that Line holds up health wise Brady can definitely play three more.

If Cannon is healthy and they’re kicking Wynn inside to guard, I wouldn’t mind Thuney competing with Andrews for the C job.

Im a little concerned about Bradys under throw getting picked off.
I dont know if it is just getting the timing down with Patterson or if Brady didnt have enough strength behind it.
Anyone see it care to give their thought

Well BB declined the 5th year option on both Brown - Shelton don't know if that's to light a fire. But if they both play well I can't see either sticking around...I am happy we have Valentine and Butler in the wings. I love our current dept we should be able to keep guys fresh. I can't wait to see our Third Down packages.

When we see that Beast Sony Michel run Patriots Nation will be saying...just hand it off Brady...(((ducks out of the way.)) Sony Michel could potentially be a not so poor mans Ezekiel Elliott.

I hope the tweak of the hammy wasn't too significant or else it's going to bother Matthews all year. Those bad boys are not fun.

I hope M. Mitchell doesn't miss an entire TC again that wouldn't bode well for his Football future. He needs to get on the Practice Field in at least two weeks.

Maybe these 2 play well in a contract year but with the way they’ve played up to this point do you think Shelton and brown deserve a raise from 1.5-2 mil a season to 7 mil year 5?

I have my doubts that his football career is going to be a long one regardless. His knees have absorbed a lot of damage already.

@ Dowling heck no!
