Edelman Suspension Appeal

The NFL union should have negotiated that tests be analysed with the player or his representative present never leaving sight of the sample.

That’s impossible to do. They must test 100s of samples.

I'll be shocked if the NFL drops the case. They won't admit there is a flaw in their system. I'm not one to believe they are out to get the Patriots.

1800 players spread across the country for 6 months a year @a minimum of 6 mandated tests per means the minimum number of tests is 10,800 which doesn't include players that have failed previous tests that are subject to additional testing. Allowing 245 work days a year for the labs with samples not allowed to be drawn on game days but keeping in mind 'never leaving sight of the sample' means 24/7/365 pee protection (3 shifts per day per sample even over weekends while the sample is either being stored or transported) you are not just creating a logistical nightmare for the 'random' scheduling and travel of your urine escort army but considering they all have to travel to/with the sample and be compensated an immense expense as well.

Jameis Winston suspended for three games for crotch grabbing an Uber driver.

Julian Edelman suspended for 4 games for a 'Dafuq if I know what it is!' substance.

... wtf?

Crotch grabbing is penalized for image. PEDs are penalized for an unfair competitive advantage.
Winston shouldn’t have been suspended at all.

He is accused of forcibly grabbing someone. If the accusation is true he has more than an image problem.

any idea if edelman's hormone levels were out of range? this is one reason why would you suspect PEDs without detecting the actual PED

Wasn't Jules accused of the same?

I’m not talking about “his problem”. I’m saying he is suspended because it is an image issue FOR THE NFL. The NFL shouldn’t be suspending players for things that the law should handle. If a woman accused, and it’s accused not found guilty, you of grabbing her do you think your employer would launch an investigation and even though you were not found guilty of anything, suspend you from your job for 3 weeks?

The NFL is right to suspend players for using PEDs because it creates a competitive advantage and affects the game.

Yeah either Andy is confused or will hopefully elaborate on why he said that.
Not confused at all
The NFL is suspending Winston because he hurt their image.
The NFL is suspending Edelman over rules of fair play and honest competition.

The nfl should be in the business of the latter and should stay out of the former.

yep

Here's the sampling tray of an LCMS instrument. Imagine each vial as a sample from a different player.

There isn't an honest person in the world anymore. When maybe millions of dollars and someones reputation is at stake i wouldn't want to trust anyone with a blood or urine sample..

The nfl should not worry about their image?

Not what I said.

The NFL shouldn’t be suspending players for off the field actions, and should leave that to the law.

But the original point was Edelman is getting 4 games for trying to illegally gain a competitive advantage while Winston is getting 3 games because the NFL doesn’t want protests.

Suspending the player really does nothin for the image of the league.

I disagree. The majority of people are substantially honest and blur the line when it serves them and they can rationalize it.
No one benefits from tainting a urine sample.

Most people step into the gray when it’s important to them and they think no one gets hurt but few people cross jnto the black.

Not what I said.
It is. But maybe it didn't come across the way you meant, so fine.

The NFL shouldn’t be suspending players for off the field actions, and should leave that to the law.

If the NFL is concerned about the impact to their image based on off field actions why shouldn't they suspend a player?

Hmm...given that they just extended a new contract to Roger, I'd say they don't care about their image.
You're correct. The only image the NFL cares about at all is the one they look at periodically which shows their profits. That's it.

An investigation found that Winston did grab the crotch of the Uber driver. I'm not sure why you created a direct hypothetical that isn't consistent with the facts of Winston's case.

At any rate, employers from all walks of life suspend and fire employees for conduct that could/does bring negative attention to the company they work for.

Police forces, almost all major sports leagues, news agencies, etc., etc.. The idea that companies should not and do not distance themselves from employers who have been accused or proven to have committed acts that harm the image of the company is nonsense and isn't an accurate representation of how businesses actually handle these events in the real world.

You can bet that if an investigation found a particular person groped someone else's crotch without consent, most reasonable companies would fire that person. A 3 game suspension for Winston is comparably light compared to most other employment situations.

Really? Your truly not sure why AJ would create a "direct hypothetical that isn't consistent with the facts of Winston's case?"

Or that in doing so he'd ignore Winston's history, or the lies he and his companions told about who was in the car or the fact that he has recanted his previous statements and publicly apologized to the Uber driver? Any of that surprises you?
