No they did. The owners hated Al Davis and the league and commissioner stuck it to him whenever possible.

Goodell is a hired gun who has no real power and is there to be the face for the owners. A byproduct is he is effective at taking heat away from the owners. You think Goodell is spending millions on deflate gate without the owners pushing it?

LMFAO, Rozelle not only hated Davis more than any owner did he hated him for longer. What you don't know about 'back in the day' could fill volumes. Rozelle and Tagliabue stood their ground with the owners on some issues, the merger and player relations respectively come to mind. Goodell has never been more than spittle distance from the majority's boots. In fact Rozelle going to bat for the merger and Davis as AFL commissioner subsequently being a PITA during it was a big part of their personal antipathy, that happened before Davis started getting into it from the inside with other NFL owners.

However I did see an article that claims they will ID the substance and it would warrant a suspension.

But if the rookies are included - Etling, Wimann, Atkins, Herron, Bentley - that's a lot of deadweight.
