OT: Bruins vs Leafs Game 4

Understood, but the Sox more than any of the 4 look to be in the best position to win a title. There’s something to be said about that.

“Best position to win” doesn’t have to assume that they’ll stay on this current pace, or that it involves making a foregone conclusion that they’ll stay hot from start to finish.

A team that's not not even a month in to the season is in a better position to win a title than a team that is currently commanding a playoff series against a quality opponent?
I'll go with the B's on that one, understanding YMMV

As a teenager, I remember the 1984 Detroit Tigers starting the season 35-5.

By Memorial Day the Sox were already 18 back or something like that. Absurd.

There was a Tigers team that had a huge losing streak and a decent length winning streak in the same season. I think it was in the 70's.

I'll go with them all, for coaching and winability.
Belichick - Pats (nuff said, but on the downside)
Cassidy - Bruins (in spite of injuries during the season)
Stevens - Celts (in spite of injuries to start and end the season)
Cora - Red Flops (I hear they're doing great too)

To say that we've been blessed with that lineup is actually an understatement.

If I had to pick one over the other though I'd go with Stevens and the Celts. I think he's as great a coach as there is and they have a flock of great young players with more to come, thanks to Ainge doing a phenomenal job.

Leafs outplayed Boston last night, but two costly defense pinches turned the game. Series is over now as no team will beat Boston 3 games in a row

Idk how that will fare next series against Tampa Bay should they advance.

Of course you would, with your Celts preference how could you not?
This part of the discussion started with someone making the assertion the Sox were in the best position to win a title, obviously I disagree. The Sox are 18 games into a 162 game season while the B's are not just in the playoffs but in command of the series most of us thought would be their biggest obstacle in getting to the finals. The Celts have been impressive but in light of the injuries it is unrealistic to think they are closer to to winning a championship than the Bruins.

If we are going to morph the conversation to which team is better coached then the conversation is over before it starts. Only one of the coaches in town has not just brought his team to the promised land but done it repeatedly and is generally considered in the argument for best ever. If you'd rather go with overall long term outlook it's tempting to go with what Ainge has built since there is so much talent and potential not to mention Stevens obviously knows what he is about. Anyone countering with the B's could make a very similar argument. Sweeney has done an incredible job remaking that team and not just Cassidy but his entire staff are the goods. As for this incarnation of the Sox with no cap and so much checkbook induced change baseball only exists in the now, long term is out the window in hardball.
All that said, in spite of appearances the best overall outlook resides in Foxboro for as long as Belichick does, nothing breeds success like success. He and his team are the only ones that have done it year in and year out. The proven pedigree is there and I would not bet against him doing it again even with an entirely different cast.

Barring injury I'm pretty confident about their ability to beat Tampa. It's a matchup thing, the B's are just a tough one for Tampa.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think it's that crazy to see Vegas coming out of the Western conference.

Feels like Matthews is kinda overrated. Quiet this series. -2 yesterday and -4 for the series. I don't think he's even the best player on his team.

Bruins-Pens in eastern conference finals - battle of the nasty yellow/black jerseys.

Still young player. Learning experience

Hope you're right but they did have the best record for a reason. They got some guys that can put the puck in the net. Let's advance first off course and tampa as well.

The Leafs goalies $uck.

Strongly disagree with that assessment. Freddy Anderson should write a sequel to Robinson Crusoe with the amount of time he's spent alone on an island. Those 2-on-1's last night were a great example - he expected his defensemen to leave the shooter to him and take the pass away and both instead left them wide open for open net bunnies. Leafs wouldn't be in the playoffs without Anderson and McElhinney.

He's a 20 year-old rookie. Jeez, I can see why y'all ran Thornton and Seguin out of town...

He’s not a rookie.

Im not saying he’s anything less than a really good player but I guess despite the hype he’s had so far i think there’s actually other guys on the leafs (like Marner) who I worry about on the ice more than him.

Of course Belichick/Pats is at the top, but I was looking at the future more than the past. I thought that I made that distinction.

I'm really not a Celtics first guy. I support 3 of our 4 teams, at least until Brady leaves.

we have arguably the best coach in two of the major 4 leagues...thats insane

if baseball or hockey pans out, maybe increase that number from 2 (hopefully BB is around for a little while yet)
