Official Free Agency 2018

As the official start of free agency approaches, let's recap..

Stuff we knew was coming:
Butler is gone (3rd round comp pick in 2019)
Lewis is signing with TN (6th rd comp pick in 2019)

Stuff we were hoping would work out but didn't:
Solder signs with the Giants for stupid money (3rd rd comp pick in 2019)

Stuff we didn't see coming:
Amendola signing with the Phins (6th rd comp pick in 2019)

As of right now, the Pats are max out with 4 comp picks, UFA signings north of 5 mil a year can and will change some of that. If Waddle or Fleming sign for more than Lewis, they would count and the Lewis pick would drop off.

Pats UFA still unsigned:
Waddle
Fleming
Slater
Bademosi
Burkhead

Old friends still on the market:
Vereen
Woodhead

All the the decent CBs are off the market, the only intriguing item left is cap casualties Suh, Ebron, and the Honey Badger.

oh and Ray Lewis killed a guy

At this point where there is so much money left that even he middle class gets paid a lot I honestly wonder if the value is not in paying someone like Suh. What used to be the price of 3-4 middle class players might now be only about 2.

Definitely can see why we started to acquire players with upside on their rookie contracts..

We get it. You don't like McCourty. We've read it in thread after thread. Can you play any other tune on your instrument?
Deus, I don't dislike McCourty. I think his contract is bloated and unlike many on this forum , I think he is mediocre. I just think he is replaceable and CAP money is precious. He flat did not have a great 2017.
It's just my opinion.

Justin Pugh, G/OT, Giants. At the "Cuse", Pugh was a very effective LT. The Giants moved him inside. He was a serviceable RT. Can Scar make him back into a LT? He is rated as the 8th best player in FA. The Giants would be aghast if he because a solid LT here.

Pugh can not play tackle in the NFL

Not gonna be a grammar nazi, but more commas might’ve helped him understand what you were saying a lil better. English being his second language and all that.

Let's eat Grandma

Big difference!

You've been *****ing about him for years. That's fine. Just limit the number of freakin' threads where you're doing it.

In about 20 Min, we're going to see a whole lot of announcements about cuts and redone contracts. It will be interesting to see how certain teams get under the cap since it goes into effect at 4pm.

Pittsburgh - Over the Cap
Philly - Only 910K under and that's before they re-signed Bradham, signed Ngata, signed Corey Nelson.

It's a players market this year for sure, and I've seen very few to no bargain deals for anyone across the league, which is something I just don't remember happening before this year. If there was ever a year to be out of cap space, this one isn't terrible, because anything we spend in free agency is almost certain to be an overpay. Average players are not worth 8 million a year...I don't care what all the other teams are doing.

I said to my friend Sherman when he said something similar.. I think I know a place..

The culture of winning in San Fran? It was long time ago.

I'm convinced that DW Toys has no clue what a safety is actually supposed to do in the Patriots defense. He hated James Sanders for no apparent reason and he thinks McCourty is a poor player.. *SMH*..

Almost no NFL player says "I'll go to the team that pays the most", yet almost every NFL player goes to the team that pays the most when they switch teams (granted there's the exception of what we might call the Browns Rule, where a team might be so undesirable that they are either not considered at all, or they have to vastly outspend everyone else to get the players).
