What Might Get Done In Ten Days (before the season starts)

On Phil Perry/Mayo’s podcast they talked about Croston as the potential swing tackle next year. He was on the roster all season & the only backup OL in the preseason who really didn’t blow chunks.

IMO I dont think we can afford to pay Fleming or Waddle 4-5 million a season on top of Solder.
This is the system. They find a Fleming or waddle cheaply then when they become too expensive they find a new one.
That said I don’t see either of them getting a lot of attention or big offers.
Waddle has been here 3 years and played 372 snaps.

Why, though? What have they proven over the course of playing in an NFL season that Richards hasn't, or even a 2018 rookie?
Well, my first reason is that I don't believe Richards can tackle or cover. Second reason I thought Travers was a good tackler in his preseason action. Wasn't as focused on Jones but would prefer either to Richards.

No guarantee whatsoever that the Pats are able to replace Gillislee's success rate/production and pass-pro even with a 2nd-round RB. And that only saves about $1M off the cap.

Literally anyone can replace an inactive. Steven Hawking could have replaced Gillislee for every Patriots game after game 8, with the exception of game 15, and there would have been no difference in production.

I think at the cap he's at we need to let Gilleslie compete for a spot on the roster.
You have to let Lewis walk for anything over 5 Million a season.
You have to let Solder walk for anything over 10.
Restructure Bennett and Allen.
Restructure Mccourty
Restructure Brady
D
Go and get honey badger or Joyner.
Go and get Trent Murphy
Get Richard Sherman
Get Wilkerson
Resjgn Flowers
Resign Harrison
Sign Terrelle Pryor Cheap why not
Sign 2 more linebackers
Make Gronk happy
go into the draft targeting QB of the future
Edge rushers
O line
Runningback

Are you crazy about 10m and Solder ? He will get north of 12m.. maybe if -- for whatever reason -- the market doesnt develop too much we could get him at 11-11.5 but nowhere below that.

We dont need to invest into safeties. Unless that player comes cheap. The Badger is neither an upgrade, nor consistently available because of his injuries nor cheap.

We dont need more veteran WRs. Unless Britt gets cut before camp -- for which there is no reason -- he already fills out exactly the same position Pryor would. And there is certainly no way that he would accept a cuttable cheap contract. Why would he ?

If any player on the PS was a better overall option than Richards then he would have been replaced already. I mean give the coaches some credit.. they are around those players almost 7 days a week for many months. And none have been known to be particularly sentimental..

Depends on what you mean by "better overall option"

I would definitely like to see the #4/reserve safety spot upgraded from Richards, and Richards relegated to ST/ELE-reserve status for the final year of his contract (unless he's upgraded out of that spot, too).

I liked some of what I saw out of both Travis and Jones during last pre-season. Both looked like they could be decent STers fairly soon. They both made some good ST stops, but also whiffed on a couple each. I actually thought Hollister was more consistent than either of them. Also, I didn't see anything in their scrimmage play that led me to believe that either Travis or Jones were ready for the 53-man at the time.

Although both won numerous Practice Player of the Week awards during the 2017 season, that doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. In the past, many other players have done the same and ended up spending their entire 3-season P-squad eligibility period on the P-squad.

So, I really don't know that either Travis or Jones are a ready-upgrade over Richards yet, or even if either will be by final cutdowns in September. And I'm guessing that we'll see some new faces to compete for Richards' spot by the end of draft weekend.

Re-sign Solder And Waddle, let Fleming walk.

Release Gillislee, re-sign Burkhead. Let Lewis test the market but try to bring him back. Draft a RB in the first 3 rounds.

Re-sign Amendola

Release Bennett and Allen, draft a TE. Let the Gronk saga play out.

Release Alan Branch

Release Shea McClellin- re-sign M. Flowers

Release Jordan Richards
I like it all, with the exception of the TE situation. Cutting both Bennett and Allen while “hoping” for Gronk to come back seems like it could bite them in the ass, even if you add another TE via the draft.

I can see it now..BB drafts 3 TE's and a QB :D

With the Combine over and the league's official cap, tag and tender numbers now posted, we might start seeing some roster moves by the Pats tomorrow.

You are right and I would have thought so, however it didn't happen. I am a certified BB kool aid drinker so I am good with whatever he does. I am not perfect and I allow him to make mistakes without thinking any less of his superiority. I just never saw what Jordan Richards brought to the field. I think at this point I will choose to blame Matt Patricia, well, because he's gone now and it seems the right thing to do.

Lay off the Madden, Chris ;).

(Although, this sounds lovely on paper :D)
