2018 Draft Prospect Thread

There's something about Baker Mayfield i really like. He reminds me of Brady, the fact he wants to win at all cost.

Agree. No point in getting to position centric before FA plays out.

Yep. The Draft is still 7 weeks away, and we will have over 6 weeks of free agency to figure into draft calculations before we can really focus on specific needs. Other than a QB prospect we need to see who they release and who they sign before narrowing the focus.

Hate comparing anyone to 12 but Mayfield probably is the top QB in his class IMO, Darnold isn't talented enough and not thought of as a leader, Rosen has mechanical issues to work out, Jackson has accuracy and frame issues, and Josh Allen makes cool YouTube videos and that's it

Mayfield is short and arrogant, but has the best arm of the class, best leadership traits perhaps, and mobile

DEN or NYJ should capitalize if not CLE

I'm only comparing it from the leadership and winning mentality.

I’m not worried about Gronk retiring (I believe he plays) but I would hope we look at the TE spot in this draft. Gesicki is prob the most complete TE but I’m guessing he goes before we’re up at 31. Goedert I think is this years small school athletic freak (Adam shaheen) I’m guessing round 2 along with mark Andrews (whose running after catch reminds me of Hernandez). Fumaghali just seems to make plays and should go 3rd 4th round.
Gronk's durability will always be an issue and TE should definitely be explored, this O is long overdue a youth/durability infusion (Edelman, Dola, Gronk, Lewis, Marty even)

Gesicki is quite a talent but FAR from being a complete TE, probably a R3 selection or early Day 3 pick due to his inability to block, the guy is a pure deep threat that will win jump balls a **** ton, great talent whose size, athleticism, and inability to block remind me of Jimmy Graham on NO but not like 87 at all

Goedert interests me and I have to watch more of him but my favorite TE is Andrews who reminds me of Jason Witten, wouldn't be too opposed to him in NE depending on the circumstances

If you're looking for the annual Hernandez carbon copy (Jordan Reed, Trey Burton, Engram, Lyerla) even though I doubt BB does, look out for Jaylen Samuels from NC State

I'm a big Fumagali fan as well and wouldn't mind him here, I think he'll have a long, successful career

I agree for the most part. I just dont think you will get LBs who can drop into coverage consistently for this season from the draft. It takes a while for most college LBs to actually be physically and mentally in a state where they can do that. The blue chippers that can overcome that deficit by having freak athleticism are far out of reach for us.

Similarly, while having a second starting caliber CB would be nice it is a luxury relative to the other needs you have posted. In a world with limitless roster spots or resources I would try to get a veteran like Talib (or Sherman if he can be healthy enough) but in our universe where resources are finite I just dont see how we can spend 6-7m on a luxury player in a stacked secondary while still trying to figure out how to finance a Solder extension. Because, again, unless you are getting a blue chipper (or someone who falls due to disciplinary concerns) you can not expect get someone who is "starting caliber" (i.e. an immediate upgrade on Rowe) in the draft.
Excellent point, Telvin Smth had an awful rookie year and is now a top LB, thought of as a baller coming out

Think there are two LB who could probs play in coverage; One is Malik Jefferson just because of his athletic ability. The other is Nick DeLuca
Does NE really need a good coverage LB? Younger and more athletic LB against the run but let's leave the coverage to the DBs, shall we

Glad Lamar Jackson Didn't run..

Who are we going to put on RBs etc?

The other thing is both are athletic but Malik is more so.

Braxton Berriors come on, he's a Pats Man

Bring Marquise Flowers back, KVN was getting better too but inconsistent

Good point though, I thought immediately of LBs covering TE's

Dude is literally a copy of 'Dola, I want him in NE real bad

That being said I want 'Dola back too, WR corps is deep (Edelman, Cooks, Hogan, Dola, MM, PD)

I think if we can get another Flowers then yes, never going to hurt getting another flowers type player.

We also need to think of getting a STAR LB, maybe a chung replacement for the future. I know @reamer has got a good idea on the STAR area.

The TE I really like is Dalton Schultz from Stanford. He is an excellent blocker and will only get better once he adds some more bulk to his frame (6'6" 242lbs). He isn't a vertical seam TE like Gronk or Goedert but he is an excellent underneath receiver. I think he is the best route runner in this TE class and gets in and out of his breaks like someone much smaller. He could be a Jason Witten type TE in the NFL and consistently move the chains.

...and he was available as late as the pick Bill used for Cam Fleming, too.

Thanks for that pointer. He looks really interesting...
