Anyways I wish Butler well but also respect that BB made a decision , rightly or wrongly, for the good of the team.

As for (3), I don't buy for a second the silly "arrogant Belichick was being petty and spiteful" spiel from the haters. If NE won that game Belichick would have been the all-time NFL leader in championship wins by a coach and NE would have tied PIT for all-time NFL championship wins by a franchise. That's not something he was going to risk on a whim or out of pettiness.
Except that Bill's decision was NOT for the good of the team, and he would ABSOLUTELY risk losing the SB on a whim and out of pettiness, because he did.

Could it be that BB gave Butler (in his mind) as many chances to show he was better than the 103 passer rating against, and with Butler's poor AFC Title game, that was it?

Maybe.

What's wrong with that conclusion? Face it, if Butler didn't start crying (very concerning to me with his mental preparedness), you wouldn't be questioning this to this degree, especially if they had won. No one would care. I woudn't.

I don't put a lot into the tears. Big moment, looking to repeat previous glories, opportunities lost, season of frustration comes to a head. All of the above ?

Who features a 103 passer rating against after rejecting a generous 7 mil per extension, and still gets to keep their job automatically?

Usually, players who are allowing a passer rating over 100, get benched.

I haven't looked up the 103 rating but I am willing to go with it. I further don't know what the stats are for guys with a 100+ rating but it can't be good. Like @Soliel, I would have rather stayed with him, and if they lost, we say "wow, he sucks, thanks for the interception. Enjoy your time with the Jests."

Yes. BB was VERY serious. And, Bademosi played well during his limited time as a fill-in. BB agrees and Bademosi will likely be on this team next year.

Yes, the better tackler as proven by the metrics. Yes.

Very good tackler. Very obvious the millisecond anyone saw him play and why he is good on Special Teams. Yes.
The better tackler? That's a lie, or were you too busy posting to notice Jonny Badmostly whiff vs Agholor on 3rd/6 in the 3rd quarter?

Malcolm Butler MAKES that tackle.

Raise your hand if Bill Belichick told you face to face what really happened.

Okay, whoever still has their hands up, how do you know he was telling you the truth?

I keep saying this. It's a huge head-scratcher, but it was his call to make, and he made the call. Here are some sub-head-scratchers that make me think there's a story I don't know:

- MB playing almost all snaps through the season

- A player who dressed not being used in the game and not knowing until the national anthem.

- Said player getting news just before the game eliciting the emotion we saw on national TV.

Maybe a cousin died of cancer who was 50/50 to make it. We don't know, unless one of us is Butler's cousin's doctor. The most likely case is that Butler learned he would not play on defense all game (not just that he would not start.)

Everything that somebody said is gossip. I just heard some other defensive player went out and said anything about discipline was BS. Okay. BB said that too. MB said the Patriots gave up on him. Everybody seems to agree. Or everybody has the same story.

We honestly only know that we don't know. The epistemology of Fandom.

This story needs a plot, we only have the action to go by. One day somebody will fit a story to it, and that person will be credible... BB, perhaps. Maybe Kraft. At that time we'll have to ask ourselves whether there is a reason -- something as flimsy as ego counts -- for whatever account we get.

We'll judge it as best we can as true or not true, but even then there won't be proof, only a story.

I'm just like you guys, I'll believe it or not believe it I guess. Maybe I'll be skeptical. All we know is that it happened.

SUCKS right?

lol

Butler definitely makes that tackle as well as a few others

sorry, but agoholor likely would have have abused butler.

said before the game..i don’t think you watch enough football to not realize how wiry and shifty agoholor is.

Bill Belichick could testify under oath in a court of law that Butler did not have a single off the field infraction and yet people here would still be desperately grasping at the idea that Butler must have done something wrong.

Belichick made a coaching decision based on "football reasons". And it was the worst one of his career.

So your stance is that Chung was/is better suited to cover someone like Agholor? Lulz.

Nope and BB didn't even try to put him in. Butler's capable of making one big play and not bademosi.

bb disagreed

bademosi will likely be on this team and 103 passer rating butler will not be

Well BB made one big blunder. I remembered butler playing very well in the second half of the jaguars game and he's better than bademosi, Rowe, etc. There's a reason that the iggles went right after Rowe on the first drive. You go down with your best players. Butler as our second corner' s better than Rowe.

there is also a reason why harmon was late to take off the top half or didn’t know to.....

foles threw a seed and jeffery made the play, but if my suggestions were used, it is unlikely foles would have even thrown that ball in the first place

B.B. ‘s explanation is a perfectly good working hypothesis, and nobody worth listening to is saying otherwise.

Don’t get me wrong, the same high bar makes a lot of stories look sketchy, so it effs up credibility in general around our most beloved stories.

The stories we ultimately absolutely understand are the plays on the field.
