Pittsburgh...Merged ... Steelers /Tomlin Drama

Better front seven than Pittsburgh. They can get to Brady with 3 guys. And a much better secondary than Pittsburgh. This is precisely the kind of team that beats the Pats in the playoffs. Even those painfully mediocre Giants team with garbage secondaries did it by owning our offensive line and disrupting Brady.

If Bortles goes back to being Bortles, all bets are off. But if he comes into New England and plays like one of the best QBs in the league, like he has all year, they have a chance of beating us. Much better than the Steelers if we are healthy. No way they are going to be able to play man if Hogan and Mitchell are back.

This. Jags are a worse matchup for the Patriots than Pittsburgh.

I couldn't agree more! Reminds me of the Steeler fan at work who was ****y as hell going into the Pats/Pitt game with the Patriots coming off the loss to Miami. With a bounce in his step, he asked me how I felt about the big showdown at Heinz. I told him straight up I felt great about it and the Patriots were going to win. He got all crazy talking about how Miami exposed the Pats. My response was this....... "The Steelers don't have the type of defense that historically gives the Patriots problems'. The Steelers don't have a front 7 that can rush 3 or 4 and get to the quarterback while the other 3 or 4 drop into the lanes. The result is no open receiver or passing lane, and a forced throw (or throwaway, or sack). The Giants had this in 2007. The Ratbirds had this up until a few years back. Jacksonville has this now.

Jacksonville = Miami x 100. Don't get hung up in the history of the Steelers. The Jags are a better team.

Seriously .. You think Eli won that game in 2007? Too funny

Oh, my bad. It was PEYTON Manning not ELI. How in the world could I have gotten them confused?

This might be your best post however you need offense to have a chance at winning in NE and JAX is weak in that area- even if Blake has a good day.

Pitt has a very good pass rush and big-time weapons on offense

You guys who think that Blake Bortles is beating Tom Brady in the AFC Championship Game at Gillette friggin' Stadium need to lay off the stuff. Come on now.

Who would have thought a Mark Sancez led team was going to come in to Gillette and beat Brady and the Pats in the playoffs. Especially after demolishing them in the regular season.

Yeah, I agree with you. Best way to beat NE (or really any good team) is a good pash rush on defense and a good offense capable of scoring multiple ways. Jacksonville may have a better overall defense than Pittsburgh but that does not make up for their offense being worse. BB/Josh will always find a matchup to exploit against your defense, and Brady is capable of making plays at times that simply cannot be defended - you need to be diverse and talented on offense to keep up. If your offense is basically "we can run good and sometimes our QB throws a good pass" (i.e. Buffalo's offense) then it's not a big struggle for the Pats defensively.

I get "any given Sunday" but when it comes down to it, it's about the offenses. You can have an insane defense, but Brady still did just fine against Seattle in SB49 and that was a hell of a defense.

Man that is a punch in the gut. Stop that.

With that said, when it comes to 3rd down and red zone D, 2017 D is superior to 2010 D.

Sorry didn't mean it like that but for people to think it's a foregone conclusion if we do end up playing a Bortles led team is naive to me.

Also if we do play the Chiefs, i feel like they have a good chance to beat us. We have a better chance to win obviously and we would be favored, but the Chiefs are certainly capable of beating us.

I would not be at all surprised if Jacksonville beat Pittsburgh in round 2. I hope they don't. But they have already embarrassed the Steelers once this season.

Hey I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs beat the Patriots, SERIOUSLY! Worst matchup for the Patriots just on team speed alone and Reid always plays the Patriots tight or beats em straight up.

Exactly. In order to beat NE you need to put points on the board. Just look at this year. 3 losses of 42, 36 and 27 points.

If NE loses in the playoffs, the opposing team needs to score 3+ TDs vs this D.

Thats KC and Pitt.

Here is a useless stat: in Tom's 57 regular season losses, only 12 are < or = 21 points allowed. Playoffs its 3 of 9

I was just busting ya. The 2010 div loss to the Jests and dirty Sanchez is still a tough thing to accept. It certainly is possible Bortles can come in here and play the game of his life but I think the 2017 NE D is vastly superior than the 2010 version.

The Chiefs are capable because the can score a ton. I think a potential matchup will be a lot different. Pats are not the same team.

Besides #92 is a Chiefs killer.

30th in pass defense that season. Our ranking's terrible this season but much of that was during the first half of the season.

That 2010 team was a lot better IMO. Our offense that year was one of the best offenses in NFL history and statistically our defense that year was better than this current defense.

Noboyd foresaw us losing to the Jets.
