Gronk gets 1 game

Let it go. This isn't some league wide anti-Patriots conspiracy. He got treated fairly.

in comparison to the Alonso hit, the Talib/Crabtree round 2, and the AJ Green incident, treated fairly could/should include a successful appeal down to fine

WHAT!? You said 3 games minimum in the other thread where I questioned whether you are a Patriots fan or not. Sheesh.

I was braced for a lot more and would not have had a problem with 2-3 games. So how can I not be happy with 1 game?

I thought it was gonna be 3 games because you need to send a message that this sort of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and it would have been an opportunity to raise the stakes on hits to the head. Instead they ruled narrowly and assigned a punishment to fit the crime. I'm fine with this.

Thinking out loud, is this possible - he appeals, plays vs Miami, then suspension is upheld and he misses Pittsburgh...???? Don't tell me the NFL isn't thinking about doing this if they can...

I think appeals of one game suspensions get taken care of quickly, unlike the circus atmosphere around a four or six game suspension like Deflategate or Zeke.

I doubt very much that One Game will be overturned, especially when some thought it would be for longer. So, the only reason to appeal a One Game suspension is to set the record straight from Gronkowski's perspective, i.e., that he's getting held and pushed all game and, while he shouldn't have done what he did, he didn't do it out of the blue.

But if Appealing means there's a reasonable chance that he misses the Steelers game, then I think it's in the interests of the team that he forego the Appeal. If the Pats can't beat the Lolphins in Miami without Gronk, they have bigger problems, but they're going to need their biggest receiving threat in Pittsburgh.

If it were two games, there would be nothing to lose by Appealing, since he'd be out for the Steelers game.

I know that means putting pragmatism over principal. But the Pats have a real shot at the SB...

Hope it gets knocked down to a heavy fine just like Suh.

Gronkowski according to Bills fans, seen here just seconds after the hit.

There are probably a dozen hits per year that are every bit as dirty as this one, and they always result in a fine or a one game suspension. This punishment is actually on the harsh side when compared to all precedents, especially considering that it's his first offense. And I'm fine with that, because the hit was dirty as hell. A one game suspension is harsh, but it's not outside the real of reason given how dirty the hit was.

OTOH, your "at least 2 games and fine" is a load of **** based on nothing that you almost certainly pulled out of your ass to seem like some kind of edgy contrarian.

unto itself, the punishment fits the crime......but in the context of other incidents this year, it leans to the harsh side, agreed

You should go over to the Bills board now, or the Steelers maybe. I am sure they'd welcome you with open arms.

That's not how it works. His appeal won't affect his availability vs Pittsburgh whatsoever.
I want to believe you're right with every fiber of my being, but can you cite any examples or provide support for your statement?

And, if it doesn't affect his availability in two weeks, is there any chance it could affect his availability in the Playoffs? Again, examples or support would be helpful.

Thanks.

And in the context of any commissioner but goodell it was an unprecedented egregious penalty.

Best example is that the 2 game suspensions for Talib & Crabtree were reduced to 1 game suspensions in less than 1 day. These on-field suspensions are typically resolved very quickly, as opposed to the off-field mega investigations that drag on into court, etc.

He'll find out on Thurs. It won't drag out

The NFL needs to completely revisit it's punishment phase, and needs much clearer guidelines as to fines and suspensions......I think it underuses ejections, and overuses suspensions to compensate, and there is no consistency as to how fines & suspensions are carried it

it all starts with referees taking charge of games much sooner....in the Miami game they did a poor job of handling the chippy behavior, and they did similar here.....they also were very inconsistent in handling the mugging by DB's......the BS with Amendola should have been dealt with sooner, and if they had ejected Gronk, this suspension would have never happened......they bounce Gronk after that play, and I think zero posters here have a problem with it.......they'd probably tack on a fine (under a clear tiered system would be cool), and none of this ****storm happens
