Post Game Thread Dolphins @ Pats

I was majorly relieved on the Karras turnover that Brady didn't sustain a significant injury. Hated seeing him dive with the Dolphins defenders for the football. I know he has gotta try but still scary.

And that is the difference between Bradys competitive drive and someone like Cam Newton.

Strange game, looked like a run away in the beginning but then the Pats took a nap and anything could happen finally they finished it off. Cooks and Lewis continue to impress. Too many injuries for this type of game..

On to Buffalo

Go Pats

This shows you don't know jack about knee injuries or their causes..
It shows you don't know jack about the Gillette stadium turf monster, or fake grass for that matter...ask Welker, ask Edelman, ask Dion Lewis, ask Ebner....

Welker?

In a study performed by the National Football League Injury and Safety Panel, published in the October 2012 issue of the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Elliott B. Hershman et al. reviewed injury data from NFL games played between 2000 and 2009.

They found that the injury rate of knee sprains as a whole was 22% higher on FieldTurf than on natural grass. While MCL sprains did not occur at a rate significantly higher than on grass, rates of ACL sprains were 67% higher on FieldTurf.

No.
Assuming a win next weekend but the Patriots lose all other games while the Bills win all other games (vegas odds of 20,000 to 1 )
Tie records at 10-6, split head to head, Patriots 3-3 in division Bills 4-2 in division. Bills win Division based on division record ((the division race is over as a practical matter -- the Bills' O is tragically bad))

The BFD today was the Jags losing and its effect on the race for a bye and the top rpize, #1 HFA. (for this conversation assume the Jags win remaining games).
If the Patriots-Jags both end up with the same 12-4 then the Jags get the bye due to conf records. So Patriots can go 4-1 with who they lose to being irrelevant. That clinches a bye.
For #1 HFA, (A) Best: the Patriots with their next 4 (Bills, Phins, Steelers, Bills). #1 HFA is clinched and their final game against the Jets is a half for starters/rest for anyone nursing a harsh injury. (2) Good: if the Patriots are due to lay an egg and do so in one of the next two games, obviously just beat the Steelers then finish up with a win over the Jets.

Important points:
-at this point a loss to the Steelers is likely to eliminate our shot at #1 HFA. Steelers would have to go 2-2 in their other 4 for the Patriots to get the #1 HFA.
-while I'm optimistic on the chances against the Steelers, if that win doesn't happen Patriots just win the other 4 to guarantee the bye. I like our chances in the playoffs just with a bye.
-assuming the Titans win out and knock the Jags down to WC status, the Patriots can now lose 2 games but still clinch the bye. ((the Jags v Titans final game of the year could end up an important game. My hunch is both teams go into that game at 10-5 with division on the line but the byes/HFA out of their reaches).

I obviously hope we beat the Steelers, but if we lose to them, then we still got the experience of going to Pittsburgh and playing in that environment, so will be prepared if we have to do it a second time. A better situation than, for example, if we had to play them at Gillette in December, then lost, and had to go to Pittsburgh in January.

It'll be a moot point though, we'll beat them wherever we have to play them

Welker blew his knee out in Houston
Edelman blew his knee out in Detroit

Pittsburgh needs a home game in the playoffs against the Pats, but even that may not help......Bell is at the point where his annual health issues show up and outside of the sheer volume of touches, he's not the same guy he used to be

they really need someone else to take the Pats out for them.......based on grumblings, the game against the Pats is already in their heads

Yup. One of their guys will get hurt and then the Steelers fans will all point to that as the reason they lost, ignoring the fact that we're down Edelman, HT, etc. Same as last year where we crushed them with Gronk out.

Blake Bortles, Steelers Nation turns its lonely eyes to you...woo woo woo.

Deion Lewis and Brandon Cooks are both A list game changers.

Gilmore played like the guy they thought they were signing- about as good a performance by a Patriots corner in recent memory.

Landry is a tough opponent. I respect that guys game.

Strongly agree with all three sentences. Also, Gronk is pretty good ...

Sure, we had more turnovers than we'd like but...........

1.) The Red Zone offense was awesome
2.) The defense was great yet again
3.) Even with BIG mistakes we still COASTED to VICTORY!

But don’t forget “Gilmore sucks.” Mike Evans, Davonte Parker, Michael Crabtree, Demaryius Thomas

Gilmore was ****ing awesome today. I'm sure the people who buried him after 2 suck games are going to still say he sucks after 3 great ones.

Opposing DCs starting away from him tells you all you need to know.

That time they failed to pin the Dolphins back in the first half was uncharacteristically bad for Allen. Usually he does better than that.

Are you referring to the touchback after the weird delay/fake punt thing?

If so, I wouldn't put that 100% on Allen. The trajectory on that punt seemed a bit lower than usual, but it hit and bounced at about the 3-yd-line and Jon Jonzz seemed to get there in plenty of time to catch it and down it - he just got turned around and misjudged where it was coming down.

If the Steelers make it to the second game. Tomlin just gave bulletin board material to whomever they face in the playoffs, assuming they will make it past that team to face NE.

Brady had two bad throws to start the game but overall I'm still VERY pleased with his performance.

Sure, this wasn't a game where they moved up and down effortlessly. No, in fact, that's what I found encouraging about Brady's performance. The guy was knocked around but continued to hang in there and make the plays. Sure, it wasn't pretty, but given the duress and pressure the defense applied I would give Brady an A-.
