It really depends how long Belichick is sticking around. If he no longer expects to outlast Brady he may be fine with Hoyer as a backup and building a stronger team around Brady and leaving the QB mess to the next guy.

If it's true that Kraft forced the trade, the irony is that he only hurt himself (or Jonathan). We all want a soft landing for Brady's end of career and I'm thrilled that he will almost certainly retire as a Patriot now - but by doing it, Kraft may have cost himself ten years of quality QB play while searching for the next Jimmy G.

If Kraft really did force the issue then there is also a possibility of pissing Belichick off enough for him to leave.

I hope that this is just a dumb rumor.

I don't think Bill would do that. He doesn't have a ton of years left, while I believe he'd love to have added to his legacy by winning a SB with another QB, I highly doubt he'd want to start over or retire. I think we're good for a few years but it could be really bad once Bill and Tom are gone, whereas if they'd kept Jimmy it probably would have just been a clear dropoff.

Curran has talked to high ranking Patriots officials, he isn't saying Bill wants to trade Brady, but if he did, he likely wouldn't have the support of the Krafts so it might not be possible. Brady is not the same as Seymour, Willie Mac, Vince and other aging stars before him.

Brady should be untouchable, for what he has done for the franchise and who wants to see him in another team's uniform.

If BB thought that Brady isn't starter-worthy anymore, he would have that conversation with Brady during camp (ala Bruschi) or after the season (if we were to ever see a bad season). And I still think, we all should think, that Brady is still playing at and elite level.

That would change it, of course. But I don't really buy that rumor, the same article stating that also said that Bill will be coaching 2-3 more years. No chance Steve is a HC in that period of time. Those timelines don't work IMO.

So? Steve is about the same age as the Rams HC I think they're both 30 (Actually Mcvay is a year older), if BB retires In 2021/2022 he'll be 31/32 as I'm sure BB will stick around for a year or two post Brady to make sure everythings good to go before he takes it down and everythings in the right direction

Was there really a quote that suggested that there was a plan in place for Bill to hand the reigns over to Steve? If so, I don’t believe that for a minute.

This was just business. The same business the Pats have engaged in since 2000. Fans still hate that Bill does things his way. Fans are...well...frustrating sonsabiatches at times.

May have. May. I like Jimmy, seems like a good guy and good QB and I wish him success. But in a league where QBs younger, more renowned, more experienced, and more proven than Jimmy (much less TB) are dropping left and right to injury and/or inconsistency, it’s almost foolish to plan more than 2-3 years ahead at any position. They could have traded Tom, kept JG, and still sucked 5 years from now. If they were presuming to know things about the 2027 Patriots and using those presumptions to make decisions about the 2017-19 Patriots and jettison the GOAT in favor of a guy who has played 6 quarters who you have to pay MORE than aforementioned GOAT well, gosh. That’d be like letting the inmates run the prison, as they say.

There was no decision to be made here except to get something out of the value of your backup QB you were never going to start or re-sign before you lose him for nothing. High 2nd? Great! On to Denver.

Why would someone who is very young, has practically zero coaching experience at all, and was finally promoted to a positional safeties coach be handed the keys to one of the more powerful organizations in all of sports?

Some here don’t know if Josh McDaniels would be qualified on both sides of the ball due to his failures in the past, and you’re claiming that it should be Belichick’s son?

LOL, he's been a position coach for 2 years. He has proving to do there then time as a coordinator most likely. Maybe he's more ready than I know but on it's face he's at least 5 years away.

You mentioned McVay - he was a position coach for 5 years (one in college football, four in the NFL) then 3 as a coordinator. In 2-3 years Steve might be ready to be a coordinator. Anything faster and he's a huge risk getting the shot due to his last name.

Steve's Dad was a position coach for 8 years and a coordinator for 6 before becoming a head coach.
