R-E-L-A-X on the defense

You're right it could improve we've seen it happen before but we've also drank the kool aid and said it would improve and it stayed JAG central all year and got smoked in the post season, there was a good 3-4 years of it.

The defense with this personnel without a trade will never be a good defense, it can get to average which could be enough to win a Super Bowl with Tom Brady.

But this defense with this secondary is pathetic, this secondary should make for a top 5 defense, top 10 at worst, right now it's one of the 5 worst defenses in the NFL, the front 7 lacks good players it's pretty clear to see.

I hope it can be fixed but it's more hope than confidence, they're giving up massive points and yardage to pop gun offenses in KC and Houston.

The biggest concern is the amount of big plays no matter how bad some Pats defenses have been they've never given up this many big plays, this is not the classic bend but don't break this is just bad defense.

Pass rush was real close several times. Watson was playing his version of "first time mobile QB who either beats the Pats or comes close". He was one of the best I can ever recall in that role. Some great throws. Plus 14 pts from "fumble-6" and the Brady trip short field. Some stupid D plays for sure but considering the newness - I remain hopeful..

Yeah but we have a bunch of overpaid ******s pretending to be "leaders".

Maybe if they spent less time game planning a kneeling and actually play football..........
I believe that they should find a way to make whatever point they wish to without impeding on the flag, the anthem and pride in the country.

That's said your point that it could affect the game is entirely idiotic.

Rodgers chokes when it matters. Take that Mr R-E-L-A-X

Is it not reality? Did they NOT almost lose? I guess it was in total control the entire game. There was never a doubt.

Get real. I used it as an example.

Yeah.
And they almost lost every Super Bowl they won.

I kid.

Also I agree, and like the rest of us have higher expectations for them.
Dizzying number of injuries.
Just Edelman?
Today's three and outs have me really missing that man.
OT:
But Looking around the league, who is really clicking?
Atlanta has looked the best to me, but erratic, blew another lead today
then walked off after getting beat
with a win on a very very bad call. The worst.

Right now, do you fear any of them?
Raiders have been mentioned, but Jack Del R?
vs BB?
NFW.

Like BB vs BOB Today.
Overthinks it, take risks when the game is far from decided, etc.
Obriens challenge today was a pee wee football goof.
I really think he is now holding that team back.

It's difficult to not be extremely negative about the defense with the expectations that surrounded them

They were a strength last year. We add a pretty solid CB, keep Butler, and somehow we go from pretty good to abysmal.

We are 2-1. We will see how they play in the remaining 16 games. I guarantee you we will not start thise games down and carry forward points.

Exactly. Rowe/J Jones haven’t exactly been terrible either. It would be expected that corners can just play. I heard someone recently say that in regards to a potential Butler trade. Corners can be traded mid season and kinda just fit right in.

Go cover him etc.

I think they will improve considerably. Once the defense gels more and hopefully we stay mostly healthy it could be reaching the expectations we had. But there are some talent issues in that LB core.

I want to go back and review but from my seat this was an odd game in that side of the ball. There were a couple of freak big plays but otherwise it was a lot of nickel and dime.
I think if we look back we will see an extraordinary amount of 3-6 yards gains (decent not really good plays) on first and 2nd down and very few 0-2 yard plays leaving them in good form and distance all day giving them great play call versatility options.
Doesn't mean it was good defense but it wasn't a typical 26 point effort.

He had some prayers throws that if the D had been playing man would have been picked off. Instead they were huge gains. They always seemed to be in 2nd 5 and better the entire game. The rushers were there and had him several times but he got away.

It’s bewildering with a press man pair of corners they rarely play it. For my money, notwithstanding some coverage switches from time to time, it would be press man, rush 3 and have a spy lurking to contain and alert on Watson. Force him to make quick decisions. And be accurate.

Is that an accomplishment for you?

3-0 would have been pretty easy if the defense had showed up opening night

It's called sarcasm Andy.

However, don't feel bad. McCourty is kneeling over in the corner right now and it's going over his head. Footballs just go everywhere else.

Maybe you should get these social justice secondary types to help heal the real injustice on Sunday..............watching that play is monumental suffering.

Honestly I'm a firm believer in you win or you lose you work on what isn't good, build in what is (and both may not be obvious to us) and this game means nothing in the subsequent games but if you asked me what things happened on d that I worry are endemic I say throws to the end zone from the 20-30 and muscling up better vs the run.

There is a lot that goes into this. First BB is far and away at the conservative end of coaching philosophy. Second when you have the best team it's smarter to be conservative (fluky and big risk plays lead to upsets).
Additionally they are playing for Februaryand this is one early step along the way. Tendencies matter, testing your defense matters, figuring out what you have matters.
BB has thousands of game plans and you won't see any twice this year.
Take the win, enjoy the ride.
What you ***** about today usually isn't happening in 3 weeks.

They won the game I was at. I didn't suffer at all, I celebrated.

Not sure how anyone would consider your comments sarcasm and I think you just doubled down.

It's what it is.

Are you saying you are entitled to 3-0 and damn them for screwing with you and losing one?

The Texans are equipped with weapons. Their defense can get their offense back out on the field relatively quickly, as we saw many times tonight. Our defense, though it didn't seem like it, tightened up towards the end according to the quarter by quarter break down.

10-10-7-6.

Not perfect. Lotta yards given up. Patriots edged in the 3rd down efficiency (6-13 vs. 6-14). We tightened up when their overpowered defense couldn't seal the deal.

They'll get better with time. Just my gamble.

No

But I don't believe the defense deserves any credit for any of the wins, and the bulk of the blame for the loss. I've seen you tout the record, but that isn't a product of their hard work or contributions. The team has 2 wins despite the defensive play so far.
