You either didn't live through, or don't remember, the Blizzard of 1978. That is the only time I can remember this happening around here, although more recently my electricity has gone out for days at a time on several occassions (which sucks too).

I remember camping out Eskimo style at nights with my four bro/sis and dad in the family room (only room with fireplace) with blankets all piled up on us. Daytimes were great sledding though. Didn't see a street snowplow truck for a couple days.

The spaghetti models (most of them anyway) now have this storm shifting further east. You wouldn't know that up here in North Florida, though. The news is making this out to be the end of days and playing on the fact that Jacksonville never really gets hit by hurricanes. I couldn't get gas this morning because there was a line 45 minutes long of people in panic mode. This storm is still yet to hit Haiti. Come on, now.

Yes, perhaps a bit soon, but there's no doubt that large parts of Florida are going to be gas depleted in the next 48 hours. They are already trying to get companies to send more trucks down there but having trouble with it.

They probably aren't "suffering" compared to many others, but their lives are nevertheless being completely uprooted for a period of time, mandatory evacuations have been declared, supplies are running short, and it is certainly a frightening situation for all involved.

I don't care how rich someone is, a real man would put his family before his job (that line of thinking does not apply to everyone, but it certainly applies to those whose jobs are nothing more than a couple hours of mindless entertainment for the masses).

Wonder if we'll hear more on Sunday about NFL players around the league who have family / friends living in South Florida currently.

At least for any Patriots players in that situation, they're playing Thursday and not on Sunday when the storm is forecast to come ashore.

I made the hotel reservation. Man, are they are booking up fast- we have to go all the way to Macon GA for a pet-friendly hotel with vacancies for this weekend!

And it could glide right up the coast, doing heavy damage from Miami to Jacksonville, and then into Macon as a category 3. This thing is a monster.

I'm due to accompany my wife to a conference in Miami in November but am going to wait to make sure the conference center still exists next week before booking flights.

Find a neutral site for them to play. They did that with one of Buffalo's games when there was a blizzard there on gameday a few years ago. They ended up playing in Detroit.

Some places offered but didn't want to give up concessions money. I am surprised that Carolina didn't come through. Their owner has always says "excuse me" whenever Goodell farts.

1. IIRC the "normal" pattern for hurricanes is to go up the coast (Nor'Easter anyone).
2. The estimated arrival time around bottom of FL-Miami area is Sat night-Sun morning.

My conclusion1: NYJFL should have (considered or at least tentatively) moved the game to a Sun night game (storm could be up by JAX by then and screwing their fans from making it to a MIA home game). If it doesnt turn by Friday you could still make the stupid week 11 decision.

The Governor already declared a state of emergency on Monday, so I think it would be reckless to ask fans to stick around to watch a football game anytime while that state of emergency is still in effect.

Lived in Warner Robins for three years. Happy to help with where stuff is, where to eat, services, etc. If you need a REALLY good kennel (best we've ever used) Canine Club house in Perry, GA is awesome.

Whoever it was that couldn't part with the precious concessions money is a complete idiot. The NFL in general and the host team in particular could have gotten so much goodwill by offering up their stadium and donating the concessions profits to hurricane relief.

People at the stadium could have worked an extra game and gotten extra money for themselves, the owner wouldn't be out one red cent because they were still covering costs, and cash would have been raised to help those in need. Hell, tack an extra $5 onto the price of a beer for that game. People would have gladly paid it and the funds raised would have been even more.

How is it that the idea is plain for me to see and all these supposed great businessmen can't see it? Instead they are coming off as selfish assholes that cannot possibly part with some cash they were never getting anyway when the game was not at their stadium.

Patriot are scheduled to play the Bucs @Tampa Oct. 5th, and the 'Fins @Miami Dec. 11th.

JAX is scheduled to play @Houston this Sunday, and then at home vs. the Titans next Sunday.

I feel for ya, man. Very stressful for those that are there, and the rest of us who wish they were not. I hope some how she finds a way to change her mind. The cat will be very traumatized by the howling winds and the rising waters and losing its home. Hopefully she uses her love for the cat to decide it's time to GTF out of there.

I was 18 and living in Lawrence. I vividly remember the Blizzard of 78 and seeing people on snowmobiles riding up Route 28. I also remember the ice storm of Halloween, 2008. I was living in Amesbury then and we lost power for three days. Parts of Seabrook, NH were without power for a week.
