Disney’s plan for ESPN is shrouded in uncertainty

Network TV evolved into Cable Network TV, and the evolution is now towards Internetwork TV. As with what happened with cable, what's happening with the internet will eventually end up screwing over the consumer.

Well I just hope that however the business plan plays out, the consumer wins. Pay for what you want and not what you don't need.

Well I just hope that however the business plan plays out, the consumer wins. Pay for what you want and not what you don't need.

That's great in theory. Here's the problem.

When people only pay for what they want, fringe programming gets axed.
When fringe programming gets axed, fringe stations go bankrupt or get bought out.
When fringe stations go away, we get massive consolidation.
When we get massive consolidation, people get what they're given, not what they want.

It's inherent in the system.

Remember the Good Ol Days when anti-trust was used to keep pseudo monopolies from aggregating?
When this doesn't happen you get the dreaded "Too Big To Fail" syndrome q.v. 2008

/back to just relishing Patriots hating espn's implosion
