I will add if RB Mike Gillislee runs the way I think he can I see at least 4 200yds Game in 2017 then Brady might say he wants to play until he's 50.

Anyone else pencilling in Wise as a starter?

His competition is Ealy & Grissom. If he continues his play in preseason seems like he'll start day 1.

Rivers is competing for OLB snaps with Hightower, McClellin & Langi.

Wise is competing with a bust & near bust it seems while Rivers is at a different position.

Doubt that: San Diego "Danny Woodhead" the Giants "ShaneVereen'" have raided us for our Third Down Receiving Backs in past I expect no different this year and they can get Foster for nothing. Unlike last year I think this year we can absorb his loss. How he performs in the Preseason Games could make it really tough though.

How is it that the Chargers and Giants "raided" the Pats for a 3rd down Receiving back when the Pats are the ones who made the choice not to re-sign them...

left from blogservations - Blogservations Day 8: Brady shines, Garoppolo struggles in scrimmage

-- With Solder out of the lineup, the White team’s offensive line consisted of LaAdrian Waddle, Joe Thuney, David Andrews, Shaq Mason and Marcus Cannon on the first drive. Cam Fleming rotated at both tackle spots and Ted Karras did so on the inside on ensuing drives. The first group for the Blue team included, from left to right, Tony Garcia, Jamil Douglas, James Ferentz, Cole Croston and Conor McDermott.

-- As mentioned above, Lewis received a bunch of carries during the scrimmage and it was interesting to see many of them designed to get outside. It’s possible that some were off-tackle plays where Lewis bounced outside, but Brandon Bolden, LeShun Daniels and D.J. Foster all seemed to kick it around the end periodically as well. It looks like the Patriots may be trying to work the perimeter of the defense more in 2017, which would make sense with the likes of Gillislee, Burkhead and Lewis potentially replacing the slower LeGarrette Blount.

-- Brady’s work may have ended at “halftime” but the veteran wasn’t finished. He spent a lot of time working with resistance bands around his legs, improving his footwork and throwing with Gronkowski. When Brissett hit Lucien for the touchdown, Brady ran down the sideline to congratulate the young receiver. His work ethic and love of the game continue to be maniacal.

DE Deatrich Wise: Definitely one of the most, if not the most, impactful defensive player to this point in camp

High praise from Bedard, wow.

I saw Wise in camp on Wednesday. It's hard not to notice him. Not only was he making plays, but he's a big dude. Looks like a throwback to the players you would see in the 70's.

You wonder how guys like this fall into the 4th round and guys like Rivers (who looks like he needs to bulk up and didn't standout at all) get drafted higher. I'm not saying that Rivers will be a bust, just that at this point you don't need to be an NFL scout to see that Wise is much closer to being able to play at the top level.

This is big. Contributing in many ways.

Love the competitive fire in Cooks. Malcolm is tough to block, a very physical, strong cb. Pats wrs as a group are excellent blockers.

You might be right about him going to another roster but he made it onto our practice squad last year. After this deep draft, I think he spends another year on there.

Foster was released from the 53 on November 28th (the Monday after Thanksgiving), signed to the PS November 30th, and re-signed to the 53 on December 3rd. AFAIK, that was the only time he wasn't on the 53 all season.

He has good genes as his father played ball too.

I couldn't be happier for Wise. He'll fit it nice here and is the kind of guy coaches love. Long arms, big hands.

He doesn't have the power that Flowers has but uses his length pretty well. Nice bull rush. Nice jerk/snatch. Active guy you can move around a little bit. He played inside at 3 & 5 tech. Has some nice bend for a big guy. Great punch

112 Tkl 23.0 TFL 16.5 Sacks in 5 years plus some injuries def hurt. Doesn't have the best lateral movement. stop/start ability and closing speed are poor.

Again it's week one in training camp.

Its because the poster who posted that tripe is a moron.

Always great hearing it from someone actually there.

Agreed on wondering how a guy like that goes so late in the draft. If you'd go by draft experts Wise didn't fall to the 4th round but actually climbed there. Most of the mock boards didn't even had him listed before Shrine game . and even after a monster performance there he was mostly a low Day 3 prospect. I usually had him on my mocks because he was so terribly underrated. I could understand some injury history concerns but watching his tape when he was healthy confirmed what was there in Shrine . a possible dominator inside and out. I saw only Solomon Thomas better among DE/DL guys. After emergence of Flowers, Ealy trade and acquisition of Guy it seemed Pats wouldn't go this way in the draft . so it was a nice surprise.

Give Rivers some time. He came from a small school and will possibly go through position change here. He's a smart, strong guy w incredible work ethic, a guy BB&MP will enjoy to work with . and there's no doubt in my mind make something special out of him. It might take a year like w Flowers, possibly a bit longer . but I am excited he's here and look forward to his progress..

On film I thought he had quite good lateral movement for a guy his size. His Combine 3-cone (7.07) and SS (4.36) are actually amazing (Hasson Reddick, Solomon Thomas kinf of numbers!) - almost don't feel true.

He also came across as better run defender, edge setter than CJ to me.

I just hope he can stay healthy and display all this in Pats uniform..

Beyond the obvious, having Wise become a star performer would also be awesome in a "**** you Roger Goodell and your asshat jealous owners for stealing high draft picks and besmirching the Pats' reputation with made up offenses, we STILL managed to draft a gr8 player, so suck on it you envious cretins" kind of way.

He's a brute for sure. Like I said in my post above his power isn't on Flowers level in terms being a big, long guy but hes a strong dude that can add more weight.

Watching him he flashed but I didn't see a guy that can recover after hes stopped. I just didn't see the same lateral movement.

Reminds of a Willis who posted great #'s. At times it showed up but his 3Cone just didn't match up with his running the loop. At times he looked "clunky" turning the corner. Saw the same in Barnett but he didn't have those crazy numbers.

Conversely Soly Thomas matched his #'s on the field imo.

I couldn't happier and more excited for Wise Jr.

FWIW Wise Jr also "looks" like a guy we'd pick from recent years so integrating him into the defense might be a lil smoother in terms of what were looking for and expect from him.

If some of theses things are true then it's great that he has BB as his coach to exploit his strengths and hide his weaknesses as much as possible. Here's to him staying healthy this year. Will be needed with Nink gone, Ealy having some issues and Rivers likely playing very little as of now.

Wise 3-cone and SS numbers looked “unreal“ to me as well.

But look at 7:03 here . not too bad for extremely big limbed 275 pounder deep in 4th Q..:

His “sluggish“ appearance can be somewhat deceptive on those long limbs (re Gronk). Also one should consider he played banged up in senior season; hard to show good agility when not 100% in body and mind. He clearly (smartly) went all in at Shrine & Combine..

Here in his words:

Q: How important was the East-West Shrine Game for you ?
“It was very important, very important. I told myself, since I’m healthy, I want to show the world, show the coaches, show people, when I’m healthy, that I can pretty much do my junior year and I’m still that same guy. I wanted to show all my attributes. I wanted to show my speed, wanted to show my football IQ, wanted to show my versatility, my power and I believe that I did a real good job of doing that at the East-West Shrine Game.”

Q: Did you feel like you were limited physically in your senior season?
“Physically limited, yes. I came into the season with a hand injury and then four or five weeks into the season, I had that shoulder injury. It was difficult. It was tough to play with those injuries, but I persevered through them and that’s what happened.”

Here his junior game vs LSU to back his words:
