How is it even a question he is a lock

Because there are at least 2, and possibly 3(depending on Mitchell), WR higher than him on the depth chart and he doesn't play special teams. If he end up the 4th WR, its possible that Amendola dresses instead of him, since Amendola plays STs.

In that case it is not inconceivable that Hogan doesn't make the team.

Hogan is a lock on pretty much anyone's list. If Hogan got cut it would be a shocker. One of three WR's who has practiced thus far and was a playoff standout. I don't see it.

Amendola played 47 snaps on special teams last year.
Hogan played 97 snaps on offense in the SB.

I look at it as the Alan Branch effect.....

plays decent for the bills for a year, gets a contract extension, then never plays a game for them........gets dumped for his DUI and then the pats pick him up and he seem to have been happy and productive ever since

sometimes life is just mean that way

hogan is great injury insurance, if cooks is out, hogan will go deep more, if MM is out, hogan will play sidelines more, if JE is out, he can play slot

BB has mentality this year of redundancy, even at QB

if we really need to get rid of a major piece for an important piece we lack, our backup QB is probably leaving

Everyone *****es we don't have a deep threat. Then we get a proven one ,on a very reasonable contract who is not a head case at all and people just act as if he is expendable because we have so much WR talent.

WTF?

You have a word wrong. It's not PEOPLE it's PERSON.

There are rock-solid arguments to call Amendola, Cooks, Edelman, Hogan and Mitchell rock-solid locks. With two of those players > age 30, there's also a rock-solid argument that a guy like Austin Carr could play his way onto the roster if he continues to have a strong camp. And there's a rock-solid argument that the Pats won't carry 6 WRs.

Which is what makes this time of year rock-solid fun.

If they want to keep Carr they could IR DA and get him back week 9.

I can see Amendola getting the axe before I see Hogan getting it.

Amendola's huge for us, he is literally the perfect depth receiver. He won't get axed until he proves he should be.

Hogan is absolutely making this team. Cooks is essentially a rental at this point and Carr is a rookie with only a few days worth of solid camp showings. Hogan is an definite lock.

Amendola had more receptions and more yards in the Super Bowl than Hogan. And as previously pointed out Hogan played more snaps.

Amendola can also return punts.

Amendola 2016 stats :

FAIL

DA was the best WR on the field in the superbowl. Lets not even get into the many times he has bailed out the Pats - while he is making peanuts.

Talk about a fail. Would you rather have Brandon Lloyd back? I would rather have the guy who is mentioned in the same sentence as Troy Brown.

As long as he keeps agreeing to be paid in line with his production, he'll be here to stay. If he didn't agree to take a significant paycut every year he would've been gone a while ago, but to his credit he recognizes what his role is and what his value is and he's made the decision to take less to stay here. Tons of respect for that.

That said, if the last WR spot came down to some combination of Amendola, Mitchell, and Hogan, there's little doubt in my mind that Amendola would be the odd man out.

FAIL

That's not a fail, by any stretch. Amendola played his role to perfection, and yes, it was a relatively small one over the course of the season. But every time he was called upon, he delivered in a big way. What more can you ask for from a WR4-5? If he was still getting paid like a WR2 I could maybe understand the frustration, but he was at worst slightly overpaid for his production last year, and that's before you account for how clutch he was at working the middle of the field in the Super Bowl.

I just disagree with the statement that Amendola is "huge" for us. I don't believe it makes much difference to our roster this year whether Amendola stays on the team with a paycut that he did or is cut.
