To be fair, the Sox deserve every ounce of crap being flung their way. This isn't about talking back, it's about how they did it. And whom they did it too. Pedroia as well. His "can I just go home?" comment was one for the ages

In regards to Giardi, I agree with your rant. He's gone downhill so much that I got into it with him a bit last year for picking the Steelers in the AFCCG for "football reasons". Shame the Boston media has turned into a bunch of Felgers.

OT: David Price, Farrell et al are an unlikable lot.

Price is a petulant, entitled a-hole and Farrell sounds like hes making the rounds on Fox News, ABC, CBS, etc to selling us on his medical acumen and bull **** logic for the most moronic in-game managerial moves since Don Zimmer in 1978

IMO this has Chicken and Beer 2.0 written all over it.

Every year an UDFA who had one nice camp displaces someone from a stacked playoff roster in NE.

Sure, but how confident are you that he is not another Kenbrell Thompkins, Sudfeld, Tyms or Derby ? Confident enough to cut a clutch performer like Dola ?

It does doesn't it? Oh well, we are soooo lucky to have the Pats.

Dola stays no matter what, the man is ridiculously clutch and has Brady's complete trust. That doesn't come easy. IF Carr impresses BB a lot (he has to have an INCREDIBLE camp), BB goes with 6 receivers. But Carr would have to be the 2nd coming of Steve Largent to make this team outright IMO.

JAG hiting the cliff and in decline?

One minute, he was fine. The next, he was missing open receivers. That only happens to old players who are aren't falling off of a cliff.

Time for JAG to retire. He had a good run, and he can retire knowing that he retires with as many Lombardis as Peyton Manning.

Just started reading the thread today and couldn't pass up this Giardi comment.

IMO, Giardi was once a decent reporter who evidently decided that in this market there was only room for one Mike Reiss type reporter. Like so many, he has come to realize that the Minnehan/Felger model was the way to get more radio and TV time, so he has taken that road.

The irony here is that that the newest "snark" on the scene is calling our BB for being a snark to the media. For Giardi, he knows that he's got a least a years run with the Brady/JG story line, and more likely more. Not a bad job if you can get it. He'll be getting paid well for telling the same story hundreds of different ways

Now BB is now at such a point where we all look at what he does in his pressers as akin to a loved grandfather who gets cranky and impatient. In other words he can get away with it.....NOW. But don't forget how it was in the early days when frauds like Borges tried to discredit the Pats in every article he wrote....and still does those rare times he gets a chance. Juar look at how the Sox are getting hammered. Their "crime". They DARED to talk back. Now its constant articles about how the Sox "insulted" them, and how "unlikeable" they are, and lately going to back to how Pedroia is a bad guy for the Manchado thing that happened in freakin April.

Just ranting. ;). Now back to the tread.

The Sox are being hammered for being a bunch of underperforming, whining punks and they deserve every bit of it. What Price did to Eckersley was beyond bush.

And I think you're making way too much of Giardi's tweet.

Far from it, this is the media trying to find something that resonates with fans to whine about. The sports stations are all over this crap when it is football season..why? because the Patriots give them no controversy. They have to manufacture this crap. Who the hell cares about what price said? Get over it.

The Price situation is a legitimate issue of discussion.

No question the Sox are not blameless in this, but my point is the mediots created a great deal of the story and NEVER let go, because it simply is not in their interest. It is a lot easier for them to fill their call lines and columns to have this CONSTANT barrage of negative storylines, than it is to simply tell us what happened in the games.

The Machado thing happened in April, the Eck/Price thing happened last month. But to hear it from the media it all happened last night. Is there any wonder why the Pats handle the media like they do? What is the upside of giving them anything more than cliches? The sooner the Sox learn this lesson the better off they'll be. It is not their job to make the mediot's job easier.

The media has 2 jobs to do. Tell fans who didn't get to the game what happened on the field, and to have a few people who actually know the game, analyze what happened on the field, thus offering the fan something that makes them smarter. Criticizing is fine as long as it isn't personal and with the understanding the "analyst" has the benifit of 20-20 hindsight. What it shouldn't be is loose speculation and inflaming the masses. But then again the "masses" don't fill up the phone lines for Reiss and Chatham. They flll them up for Felger and Mazz.

You won't like this Tweet from him then.

Kind of reads like he is the only one who had that idea. Which is obvious BS.

We had a clear rebuttal of the entire retirement talk already yesterday and again today. Who is still discussing this crap ?

Idiots in the radio apparently. I'll turn it off. :(

:D

The Ninko retirement talk is gaining traction. I'm hearing it now on the radio. Oh boy. Depth and production was already a concern . . .
If he was going to retire now why even bother to show up at camp?

I just heard that there was a bit of a scuffle or something between Cy. Jones and Hogan, as Jones continued to try to punch the ball away from Hogan long after the play was whistled. Apparently, BB didn't like it and said something to Jones that was considered a slight scolding. Interesting.
Sounds like jones is working on punching his ticket out of here.

That's a good question. I'm not the one stating he's retiring though. I'm just stating what I heard. The only thing that Ninko said himself is that he will retire when the Pats don't want him. He does not wish to play for another organization.

Lol

According to the report I read, it was adorably initiated by Hogan and Jones apparently didn't like the trash talk. I do like that he's showing some fight after admitting he considered maybe walking away from football entirely after last season's struggles.

So due to all the discussion here about him I decided to watch a little Austin Carr highlights from Northeastern.

On the whole to be frank I didn't finish particularly high on him but some good things and I think he has #2 potential but no higher.

Pros

Plays with a lot of grit.
Fights for the extra yard
Stronger than he looks.
Solid route runner.
Dependable hands
Has good speed running horizontally
Hard to bring down if you hit his center of gravity. Can recover well from it.

Best play: short seam pass.

Cons

Lacks elite speed
Lacks elite quickness
Not particularly well coordinated
Body control questionable.
Plays with too much force sometimes and it cost him his balance which cost him yards.
When hit somewhere other than center of gravity he moves very shaky and often the play ends.
Not great awareness of bounds and first down markers.
Has a habit of jumping when he doesn't have to which hurts his YAC.
Not the punishing run blocker he should be.

Worst play: A short pass in space with a guy in front of him. Doesn't have the jukes to make him miss.

Player comparison IMO: Eric Decker but less overall talent and size.
