Moving Butler would be ridiculous.

Of couse he did. defoe cant stand the way this team does biz. This was his post below in another thread.

It's so demoralizing following this team. It feels like watching The Walking Dead (which I quit at the beginning of season 7- don't miss it) There is absolutely no point in getting attached to any of the characters because it's inevitable that they will meet an untimely demise. Kind of like Pats players. At what point does this affect player morale and loyalty. The Pats must have a well earned reputation round the league. I'm surprised we are able to attract any free agents at this point.

Don't be shocked when Bill resigns Garopollo and trades Brady next offseason for a second or third round pick. He is stone cold and this organization is obsessed with long term contention rather than short term greatness.

At what point do all the super Bowls and top free agents finally prove they don't know what they're doing? lol

It's certainly a curse to have to follow a team that goes to 7 SBs in 15 years. How ever does he Bear up?

I know its comincal..

Imagine a poster here actually complaining that the organization is obsessed with long term contention rather than short term greatness.

How many AFCCGs? Superbowls? Isnt long term contetion the whole point of playing sports? What is "Short Term Greatness?" Going crazy with spending to try to win and then be in Cap hell for a few years?

Is that short term greatness? We are long term greatness.

I can see people being upset about favorite players, but every team has to cut players. It's just the bad teams implode from bad contract strategy and cut half the team at once.

I know I'm a little slow but can't we pay him 3.9 this year then franchise & trade him next year?

Franchise Butler next year and you're letting Jimmy G walk for nothing. Teams can only franchise tag one player.

Interesting how many 'disagrees' there were on the OP. So the consensus on this board is that people would rather trade Butler now then let him enter UFA next year and risk him walking?

See the 1997 Miami Marlins.

They are a better team with Butler. I hope both sides can come to an agreement that they can live with.

They can't force Butler to play and be happy. If he isn't going to give it his all and play team ball for his contract $$, you'd be dumb not to get rid of him when you're owed a #1.
that's a large, presumptive if

Milloy, Branch, Mankins, Jones, Collins... all the way back to Terry Glenn... BB will fire elite players at his discretion. And time has proven him right.

I like and respect Butler, but I really like and respect Belichick. I've come to learn that he knows exactly the best way to operate his roster. And if he's decided that Butler has to go, then there you have it. He's got more information than any of us, and he's also the goat.

Burkhead is coming in as an UFA for $3.1MM and is eager, excited and ready to work. Butler is staring down his $3.9MM RFA tender and is looking for an exit. If his head and heart aren't into it, get him the hell out of the lockerroom. This isn't Madden, these are real people and a real team.

Final thought: Belichick found and groomed Butler from an UDFA no name into a SB hero. He can do it again.

What would be interesting is if Butler gets multiple offers and puts the Pats in a position to match an RFA term sheet.
I think you're only allowed to have one offer sheet at a time to present to the Patriots....

The reason there are disagrees is the reality of the situation.

Of course everyone wants Malcolm here in 2017....but the wheels are in motion for other plans.

Why fans can't come to grips with the eventuality of Malcolm will be in another uniform for the 2017 season is baffling.

If they decide to keep him, that's smart

But if they trade him for the 32, well that's smart too

What is rediculous is a new Butler thread every damn day saying pretty much the same thing. We get it, a bunch of you cant imagine how this team will dominiate without Malcom friggen Butler.

And every ****ing geek armchair GM has to have his own thread on the subject so he can get his ****ing attention.

I couldnt agree more. I think there might be more to drive us fu*king crazy. Jesus ppl. Stop it already !!!!

They're in denial.

He wants 10 mil per...he isn't a top 10 in my mind and you can't pay 2 CB's 10 million.

I get it. Thats fine.

He had a foot out the door once Gilmore was signed. The other foot just landed in Louis Armstrong International Airport
