Chicken and Egg debate on the reaon, DB - - It wasn't just the OL. They had nobody to run the ball (and develin was alo gone to IR for lead blocking).

It was an injury ****show all around.

This year, Moses Cabrera was the true Patriots MVP.

.

Yes, it was an injury ****show all around. However, it's not a Chicken and Egg debate. It's a given that games are won in the trenches. You have a healthy O-line that's keeping your QB upright and opening holes for your RBs, you're ahead of the game.

You have an injured O-line where you're relying on an OT who didn't even start the year on your team to start at LT for you and your playing from behind and already puts your QB (be it Brady or otherwise) at a disadvantage.

No one is arguing that not having Develin, Lewis and Blount hurt the team. But did it hurt them more than not having Solder? Having an injured Vollmer playing? Having an Injured Cannon playing? Having injuries to Klein, Mason, and Jackson?

A healthy O-line would have been better at pass protection and run blocking than what the Pats put out there. And that would have gone a lot farther to helping the team.

Bennett definitely served as Gronk insurance as they went on to win the Super Bowl without him. There's no Gronk replacement and Allen won't be one either but he is definitely decent insurance as a #2.
He was saying Gronk insurance in the sense that he would take less punishment, thereby reducing an injury risk. My point was that Gronk was injured anyway.

It had an impact. Edelman was the only reliable receiver who stayed healthy-ish. Amendola had an injury that plagued him all year and limited his effectiveness. Dobson hurt his foot right when he was starting to become reliable and never recovered. We had Thompkins but he did very little after a certain point in the season. It was definitely a significant factor.

But you are missing the fact that Kontradiction changed his argument. Originally, he said that Edelman and Amendola were injured and it cost them. Edelman was never injured in 2013. And Amendola's groin was fine by the time play-offs rolled around. It was more the concussion that hurt him.. But that didn't stop him from being effective.. Look at what he actually did.

I completely forgot receivers such as Hopkins and D. Thomas were slot receivers. Thanks for reminding me "again."

You should really consider following football if you are going to participate in a football forum. Logan Ryan covered more #1 WR in the past 2 years than Butler. He had safety help but he was still the corner.

You should actually start following what happens on the field a bit closer.

Ryan is at his best inside because it fits his skillset perfectly. Whenever he played outside it was mostly as part of double coverage where he was responsible for underneath stuff. But those were situational assignments and also the times he struggled the most.

But then again I am talking to the person who regularly wanted to get rid of Amendola so I guess I shouldn't expect too much insight.

If you seriously wanna argue that Ryan is not an inside CB you gonna have to go through Howe, Giardi, Curran, Reiss and all other beat reporters.

A healthy O-line would have been better at pass protection and run blocking than what the Pats put out there. And that would have gone a lot farther to helping the team.

They wouldn't have had to rely on the pass if they had someone who could get more than 2 yards down the stretch last year.

The Pass-Run ratio for the Pats in the AFCCG was 56-17.

The Pass-Run ratio for the Pats in the AFC Playoff game vs. KC was 42-14

If the pass block was really the weakest link for the OL, then why did they pass 76% of the time?

Here are the rushing averages for the last 4 games of the season:
NYJ - 2.9
Mia - 2.6
KC - 2.7
Denver - 2.6

But yes, they couldn't pass block in those games with an injured and inexperienced OL. Like I said - - it was both.

Stork was IR'ed (Sept. 5) and Solder was IR'ed (Oct 14th) and they still had a running game for a while after they were out. It was just as much the dearth of RB personnel that did them in as it was the OL.

Statistically it all changed with the Lewis IR on November 9th, but even more with the Blount IR on December 15th - - THAT was the death knell.

Why? Look at the box scores stats:

here are the last 100+ team rushing yard games
10/18 - 116
11/8 - 161
**Dion Lewis placed on IR 11/9
12/6 - 103
12/13 - 116
**LeGarette Blount placed on IR 12/15

Those four games that line was already without Solder and Stork - it was the same line they had down the stretch.

Post 12/13 game, the Patriots never broke 100 again, and except for one game, never broke 70.

November 9th (Lewis) was the uppercut to the jaw and December 15th (Blount) was the finisher.

Steven Jackson was Tyson in the Douglas fight on the canvas searching for his mouthpiece. The Patriots were just struggling to stand up.

Wow, 23 years old. He is so far ahead of the learning curve at such a young age. Didnt realize that he was so young.
yeah we didnt get it either, this kid is NFL ready and way ahead of most.

Gotta love this board. There's always someone complaining for literally no reason. When we trade for someone like Kony Ealy for next to nothing, it's "he's an overrated scrub and we gave up too much." When we trade for someone universally recognized as talented it's "he doesn't fill a position of need."

Great stuff.

Yeah, I was sitting here thinking something similar. Can't we all just be happy?

Just watched some film on Cooks. He shows the same aggressiveness toward his routes and catching the ball as Edelman. I think those two are going to get along fabulously. And he's lightening...before the catch and after. He's going to demand safety over the top for all but the best CB's. Think about what that does to open up the middle routes, and outs, and wheel routes, etc., for the other guys. I can see now why the Pats gave up what they did for him. That whole Atlanta "robber" strategy just become impossible to do to the Pats with this guy on the field.

Totally agree. It is fine to play a little devils advocate to gain knowledge. Please don't argue the point like your internally connected to the bowels of BB's mad mind. Otherwise pay for your sex and bring yourself back down to earth from your non GM or GQ dreamed status. The other way will make you go blind to reality

Not doubt, but Cooks isn't going to help that issue if he's gone in 2 years if BB doesn't keep him at over $16MM./yr That's ASSUMING he's successful over the next 2 years.

Remember as it stand right now, this team won't have a first round pick 2 years in a row, and even though it's not much of a first round pick, our best pick over 2 seasons is going be Cyrus Jones at #60. That is NOT how you build through the draft for long term success.

We need help on defense in a draft that is deep EXACTLY where we need help. Now we will have little in the way of draft capital to take advantage of this opportunity, all for a WR who is likely to be gone in 2 years.

Don't you trust BB?

Speed Kills. Brandin Cooks has plenty of it. Just wait Patriot nation, you are going to love this kid, I've been following him for years. He's also got the toughness to make catches in traffic, he can do it all. And his speed...my god can he fly. Well worth the price we gave up.

Good post, Ken -- my thoughts exactly. This was a BIG price to pay for a luxury that wasn't needed. I don't quite understand it. You have to think a good linebacker, DE tweener, corner or running back prospect would be available at 32. And also because of this we probably never will see what Floyd could've done here.
Tunes pal , just saying, spend time watching this kid and you will see what BB saw.

Yeah you can see definite similarities in his route running and, specifically in the post routes. He looks exactly like Smith in his prime, only faster...

This kid is going to be a monster with Brady throwing him the football.

I see him as a WR/RB. He has the hands to catch the worst throw, but also he has vision after the catch. He has RB vision so can run very well after the catch. That is rare

Fastest WR in the league, no?

Honestly, his game speed is incredible and he was timed at 4.33

I would say he is the fastest in the NFL. When he gets space, he is gone. DeSean Jackson is up there too, but cooks is a better all around WR.

yep i thnk most will have #10 jersy after next season . BB is not a moron he knows a changing player when he sees it. It was a good deal for both of us. Now give us your LB or CB lol. but you just got a serious threat , very serious, this kid will not stop ever, an I think BB knows that. Hes very good at so young.

He's fast for sure but Tyreek Hill, John Brown, and JJ Nelson all say hi...

He doesn't have to be the fastest. It's the combination of route running, getting out of breaks, hands, and football IQ that make him special. Those other speed guys are nowhere near as complete a receiver.

4.33 means nothing if you cant sustane it . Walter Payton was 4.83. Cooks can sustain that speed That is what is important. Same as WP. Just saying
If you dont know how to look up field as a RB and run then youll never be good. You got a kickoff/punt receiver and #1 WR in this deal and BB knows it

Hill's the fastest WR in the NFL. I don't think there's any question about it, really.

Cousins,

No one has mentioned this as I see it. BB Drafted Deion Branch. I believe it hurt BB and Brady when he left (both on the field and pride). It hurt Branch's career as well.
Cooks is almost the same size comparable 3 cones and vertical jump. Cooks is a tenth faster but they are of the same type. I believe Branch player both outside and the slot.
Is Cooks the Branch clone the Pats used to win a Super Bowl with? Does BB envision him to work to field like Branch did?
Just a thought.

Would it be unlike BB to eschew the whole Draft to show Park Ave. "We Don't Need Your Stinking Draft Picks" That would be a great story line. We will trade for ready players rather than "definite maybes" in this Draft to show the NFL he can!

The thought process there is that the majority of picks, if they work out (17%) don't mature for a few years (ripen) .....Just in time as Brady says bye, bye.
Example: Clowney, Pryor, Pats-Jimmy G, Pat Chung, Matt Light etc.

Example: You need OLB Help. The Eagles are dangling Mychal Kendricks who is still young and great in coverage for a fifth Rounder. He is a ready player. There are many more out there that might be better than a pick. You are Drafting from other Teams not kids that...who knows.
