Texans Trade Osweiler To Browns

Terrible for the Browns in that they have Osweiler and his salary.

Terrible for us in that it removes JG for no. 12 conversations.

It's brilliant for the Browns.

The salary means absolutely nothing because they have to spend an amount to the cap and they are so far below......they will not reach it......they lose it.

The money means absolutely nothing.

They got paid to eat a salary that will cost money they lose anyway.

Longer term they could never get enough players for how far they were under the cap because contract expiration would be out of whack for years.

They now have more draft ammo for Jimmy G.

So the Browns can restructure the contract, converting say half of this year's salary into a bonus, pay the bonus, then trade him for a third?

If they find someone stupid enough and Brock agrees to it.

Some comments on the comments:

1. Brilliant trade by Cleveland. At over 100MM under the cap, they could be hard pressed to reach the NFL "floor" requirements this season. The NBA salary cap analogy is perfect. We are going to have to look at the Cleveland FO with new eyes after this deal. Today was a day where BB probably learned something new and filed it for future consideration.

2. Rather than killing a JG trade with Cleveland, it probably enhances it. Maybe Cleveland was loathe to give up two #1's, or their own #2 next year, but might be willing to give up Houston's #2 along with the #12 pick. And while you might not want to start Osweiler, he could be a serviceable back up for a year.

3. Rob makes an important point when he points out that Cleveland simply has TOO many draft picks, with 22 (currently) over the next 2 years. Don't forget they added 14 last year and kept them ALL. That's too many new and young players to absorb. If there is any team in the league absorb trading multiple picks its Cleveland and no one else is even close. Cleveland needs players NOT draft picks.

4. This may be a bit OT, but I have to say it. I can't believe that John Fox and his GM just committed professional suicide by signing Glennon rather than trade for JG. The fact is that those draft picks that they get at #2, and #34 might really be of great help to the NEXT coach of the Bears. I'm sure he'll really appreciate it the thought. What a completely self destructive move.

According to Lombardi it is as brilliant as it is illegal and might lead to some issues with the league office down the road.

Holy ****, Bill is literally working Cleveland like a f***ing puppet. Get ready for a mother load offer for Jimmy.

"I want first rounders, second rounders, third rounders, I want it all!"

"Bill, we really want Jimmy but we can't afford that. We don't have the picks!"

"Call me back when you do, *****es!"

--call terminated--

Expecting it to be less than a mother lode. Wouldn't be shocked if it's two 2nds this year and a 2nd and 3rd next year or something. I'll be surprised if the Patriots get a 1st.

Wonder who would be stupid enough to try to get Osweiler from the Browns via trade and eat his salary.
no one. They have 3 choices

1. Pick a QB early, and let him sit while Osweiler doubles your win total.

2. Trade for JG, keep Osweiler as a back up

3. Just release him.

Hahaha Houston is a mess.

But if Cleveland restructures this year, pays him a bonus, then trades him for a draft pick, everything should be legal.

I think that would make it legal but barely so. Like hooking up with a girl on her 18th birthday. You didn't technically break the law, but her parents are still gonna be pretty pissed at you.

JG to Browns for their #12 this year, first rounder next year....and Osweiler.

If they do eventually trade for Garoppolo, I would expect Houston's 2nd rounder to be involved. A 1st and a 2nd just became, on net, a first, a fourth, and eating Brock's salary for a year.

Brock was a Rick Smith/Bob Mcnair guy. McNair said after the 2015 season that they were going to get a QB, so they pick a dude they didn't even interview with.

Yeah O'Brien made sure that got out, i don't believe it.
