1. Brilliant trade by Cleveland. At over 100MM under the cap, they could be hard pressed to reach the NFL "floor" requirements this season. The NBA salary cap analogy is perfect. We are going to have to look at the Cleveland FO with new eyes after this deal. Today was a day where BB probably learned something new and filed it for future consideration.
2. Rather than killing a JG trade with Cleveland, it probably enhances it. Maybe Cleveland was loathe to give up two #1's, or their own #2 next year, but might be willing to give up Houston's #2 along with the #12 pick. And while you might not want to start Osweiler, he could be a serviceable back up for a year.
3. Rob makes an important point when he points out that Cleveland simply has TOO many draft picks, with 22 (currently) over the next 2 years. Don't forget they added 14 last year and kept them ALL. That's too many new and young players to absorb. If there is any team in the league absorb trading multiple picks its Cleveland and no one else is even close. Cleveland needs players NOT draft picks.
4. This may be a bit OT, but I have to say it. I can't believe that John Fox and his GM just committed professional suicide by signing Glennon rather than trade for JG. The fact is that those draft picks that they get at #2, and #34 might really be of great help to the NEXT coach of the Bears. I'm sure he'll really appreciate it the thought. What a completely self destructive move.
