With Jimmy off the table Combine quickly turns to Johnny..

And the god-forgotten Bengals activate their non-active sell of McCarron..

Teams talking to reporters at the combine:
"Yeah we're very interested in Manziel".
(Walks away)
"Can't wait to see which idiot signs him! Haha!"

If it's not posturing, BB appears to simply place a very high value on QB insurance for 2017. Simple as that.

A top fifteen pick is high regard.

Not when it comes to a QB. They will have the goat turn 40 in august. All it take's one big hit. I think they feel jimmy can be the QB for the next 10 to 12 years and they will just give him up for one first rounder. I don't think so.

At what age does "All it take's one big hit" not apply to the QB position?

From Rapoport on the thought process:

This thinking doesn't seem to make sense based on the past.

Belichick had an UDFA rookie in Brian Hoyer back up Brady after his torn-acl season.

He had Ryan Mallett back up Tom for two years. Ryan friggin Mallett....

Since when does he care that much about the backup QB situation?

Exactly. Lombardi was just on w/ Zo and basically made the point that it's not JG for the #12 pick. It's the actual player that they're getting.

Godfather offer incoming...

I am saying it's a 40 year old body. Brady has been sacked alot in his career but he hasn't taken a beating like some of these other QBs.

OK, but so what? In the NFL, every player is one play away from being done, and that play doesn't even need to happen in a game.

Garrapolo lasted six quarters, Brady has lasted 16 years, durability goes down as a check mark for a Brady. And you are in a distinct minority in thinking Garrapolo is worth more than a top 15 pick.

Yep, every player is one hit away from losing a season or career.

this is all part of the game. Force teams to pay

Well Giselle reportedly ask her husband to retire three times after the super bowl, maybe theres something up. Just sayin, you never know.
Want to give a link to this?

So........BB will suspend everything he believes in ..."I'm paid to win football games" ...out of loyalty? Should he ignore the mission of the other 52 players just so TB12 can have his final lap.
Get real

I am for real. Brady will retire before he becomes a detriment to team. He just won us a Super Bowl so at least give him some respect for a year or two. Please don't tell me you are one of the posters that wanted him benched after the pick 6 in the superbowls?

True. My point's that tom's already hitting that age when QBs dip somewhat. Maybe he's a different breed but i still don't buy the notion that he will play 5 years. I am thinking 2.

You know he can get stronger right? Gain some muscle. You will be dissapointed when he's not traded. These teams will not fleece bill. I think they value jimmy alot more than you think.

I think Reiss is very much onto something with the extra conditional #1 pick(s). If the core issue here is information and valuation asymmetry--the Pats believe, based on their superior information and assumptions, that Jimmy G is way better and worth way more than the specific market buyers are willing to pay (including the insurance value to TB12 in 2017, there is a way to solve that problem and bridge the gap. It just takes a little more creativity and complexity in the deal making.

It's done all the time in business transactions like M&A. Seller thinks business is worth a lot more than the buyer is willing to pay. They agree to exchange $X now plus a contingent payment based on how the business performs under new owner.

Same concept/solution possible here. Exchange something now like a #1 or #2 plus other goodies, and based on a mutually agreed/acceptable definition of JG's "performance" for the new team over time, much more value is exchanged, such as future #1s+. Said differently, if buyer KNEW they could get 3-5 years of really good franchise level QB play from JG starting this next season, they'd willingly give up a lot more.
