Just a note, his incarceration will end in March. His 2 months of "home detention" will likely allow him to "go to work" and be active with whatever teamd signs him. (ie OTA's and/or off season training programs)Floyd did not pass through waivers unclaimed.. The Patriots claimed him. And they claimed him because they had a need due to the fact that Amendola was injured and they only had Edelman and Mitchell healthy.. The other teams didn't want to shell out 1.2M for a player that probably wouldn't see the field for them since he'd have to learn their offense, which usually takes more than 3 weeks..
This has been covered ad nauseum in the numerous threads on this site about Floyd and whether he'd be back..
Anyone thinking that Floyd would do more than he did for the Patriots was smoking crack. He showed potential. His incarceration will end in June, before training camp, so he'll have plenty of time to get up to speed with whomever he signs with.
There are teams like the Giants, Titans, Redskins, Rams and Bengals who could take a flyer on Floyd.
BTW- I still think the Pats will give him a competitive (if low and incentive based) offer. He has an unique skill set that the Pats don't have. As teams are tending to the Seattle/Falcon style of defense to attack the Pats O, we need to have a WR who doesn't neccessarily need to be "open" to throw him the ball (a la Gronk)
A 1 month tryout isn't enough to time to determine if someone "gets" this offense. If I were Floyd, I'd take anything the Pats offer on a one year deal. That is unlees Floyd himself believes that he'll never get this offense or they work too hard. But THAT is not what we seem to be getting from Floyd.
Conspiracy theory #23448 - Someone in the Pats organization leaked that info on Floyd to drive down his price and lessen the competition. It's subtle enough not to be insulting to Floyd, but with enough meat so the speculatiors will sumize that the Pats are ready to move on.
