SANU: Length of half-time cost us the game

Win an OT game and all of a sudden we act like Atlanta had the smarts of a junior high team. Seriously ....

No. We are acting like they had the smarts of a pee wee team. Junior high team wouldn't have blown a 25 point lead with 32 minutes left in the game.

Atlanta out scored NE in the 3rd

Hardly. Each team scored a TD in the 3rd. They just hit their extra point.

Also would not have had a 25 point lead. Give the Pats some credit.

I saw this live and feel the article over blows what he was saying. He was saying it just is hard to get restarted after a long break, and you do not realize how much till you experience it. Atlanta out scored NE in the 3rd, he was not citing it as a cause of the loss. Atlanta has not been in the excuse-making mode.

Yeah if only there was any way to know about the longer halftime break beforehand.. I mean how was he or his coach supposed to know that the break is longer at a SB..

I don't know how many articles I have read that pointed out exactly that little facet and, yet, apparently Quinn somehow didn't address it
properly during prep for the SB or his players didn't really take it to heart. I don't know what of the two is worse but what I do know is that I am happy to be fan of a team that is coached by someone who doesn't overlook little things and prepares for stuff like the length of halftime breaks or a pick play at the goal line.

What a bunch of amateurs..

I'm a little confused here. Where they too rested from the half time, or were they too tired from all the plays. These excuses are making my head spin. They need to pick one and stick with it! :D

If he's still complaining about this 15 years from now, then he and Marshall Faulk can form a club of whining, pathetic losers.

I am sure Quinn addressed it, but no one on Atlanta had really experienced it. There is a difference taking the break under game circumstances. Beside Atlanta did well in the 3rd.

Why do Patriots fans have this obsessive need to convince themselves the other side is idiotic? Why cannot we just win and celebrate the quality of our team. We beat a quality team in the SB and we deserved it. Atlanta made mistakes, but mainly we won it. To throw it all on Atlanta degrades the Pats.

In contrast, the Pats usually use half time to make all their adjustments for the 2nd half. I always remember Charlie Weiss talking about using the extra long half time in 2001 to script the 2nd half for Brady, something he said he could not have done with a regular half time period.

...good 'ol Charlie is always good for a soundbite. Didn't we score 14 in the first and only 3 in the second half (until the last second Vinatieri kick)?
Regardless, I get the point - use the 2nd half for adjustments. I think all 7 Brady Super Bowls gave us poor 3rd quarters for what it is worth. The 4th quarter is a different story.

He's right that length of half time cost them the game, but he's wrong on the reason.

The extra rest time affects both team's players equally.

The extra rest time was a huge advantage for the Patriots coaching staff because they were able to figure out how to make adjustments, while the Falcons coaching staff did nothing

I think anytime you have a long stoppage, it helps the reeling team and hurts the team with all the momentum.
That's true in Football, baseball (rain delays), and even tennis. It does not matter at this point, anyway.

I felt the same way. Most interesting part is seeing how soft spoken Sanu is on the show and then seeing the contrast in the game with the sound provided by NFL Films.

Our fan base has two choices...Take the high road on these types of things and dismiss this as noise that has no impact on the NEPs standing in the football universe or discredit and marginalize the voice.

Sanu is a nobody but he's sour grapes, whining, in denial and in his own way discrediting the NEP improbable win. With that he kinda deserves a little criticism for making excuses for losing.

I agree if that was what he was doing. I don't think that was though - he was commenting on the effect of the halftime and said he had not experienced it before. Most players in Super Bowls have noted this.

So glad the NEP didn't sign this snowflake.

This guy has been in the business of denial and excuse making for 3 weeks now.

Do you have any links to this? I'm curious to read or watch what else he has said.

As for signing him or Marvin Jones. The one thing I remember is when AJ Green went down and neither of those 2 players were able to step up as a #1 receiver.

I'd be upset too, what with the Patriots using time dilation technology to make halftime go by faster for our players.

100% sure the biggest reason they lost the super bowl (on their side) is because their defense was gassed..... so more rest is a disadvantage???

The only way their D was going to dominate our O, was if they could go all out for 60 minutes..... they made it 37 minutes (with the extra rest advantage they gained from the long halftime).

Did any of you actually watch the video? He didn't make an excuse about anything. He made an observation about how the halftime affected him and his teammates, from an energy standpoint. He's not blaming it, or anyone, or backing off of the fact that they lost the game fair and square. He's simply talking about what happened, which is what he is asked to do, and acknowledging what they weren't ready for.

If he's still complaining about this 15 years from now, then he and Marshall Faulk can form a club of whining, pathetic losers.

If Faulk is still bitter about SB36 15 years from now, his head might self destruct...

If you noticed, I actually toned down what the article said.. We'll agree to disagree about the excuse making because they have been.

It's no secret.

Belichick has talked for years about the things a team has to plan to do differently during a Super Bowl and the week leading up to it. He's talked about the weird game start time, not 1, not 4, not 8 or 8:30 but 6:37. He's talked about the wait during half time. I guess Quinn didn't listen to the Master.

This year alone, the Pats didn't arrive until Monday, getting in a full practice day on Sunday and then getting to Houston just in time for the media night on Monday. Killed two birds with one stone with that one. Used up a wasted travel day with the "departure ceremony" and got one of the big media events out of the way at the same time. Then he gave the team off on Tuesday, as though it were just another week during the regular season. He had them in a rhythm from the beginning. On the other hand, the Falcons arrived on Sunday, killing that day. Then they hung around on Monday waiting for the media night, another wasted day. Two wasted days instead of one. Then they got out of their routine by practicing on Tuesday.
