This is the sort of thing I see regularly, but no one ever provides any actual evidence to support the statement - not to mention that there's no real agreement or definition of what it means to say the league "sucked in terms of quality."I hate to admit it, but Felger is kinda right. This year, the NFL has sucked in terms of quality. I don't think this team is as good as some of the past teams that have made it to the Super Bowl.
I have two friends of mine like this and it's made me want to hang out with them less. Talking to them starts to feel like work because everything, even simple things, becomes a debate. It's so annoying.I'm positive 60% of it is a gimmick -a schtick to get ratings.
Don't ask me why negativity sells, but it does.
That said, Felger also seems like he is a contrarian at heart and one of those guys that always has to be the smartest guy in the room.
And based on people I've known with similar personalities to Felgers, being the smartest guy in the room means, being a contrarian...
...because like a lot of that ilk, they falsely equate being a contrarian with being smarter than everybody else.
Here's why it works:I'm positive 60% of it is a gimmick and a schtick to get ratings.

Patriots not an "all-time Pats team", just winning during a "bad year for league"
Wait, does that make the collective us the girl?
Totally agree. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think I've ever heard or seen Felger. One of the advantages of living outside the metro Boston area is that I don't have to listen to the drivel of some of the media Mensa members....
I do not accept the premise that the NFC had any great teams this season. The NFC was a conference of mediocracy, beating up each other. Led by a one sided, all Offense, team in Atlanta; and a team winning with a rookie QB and over-hyped, until exposed. The Redskins won the SB in 1987. Guess how many people remember that was the year of the strike? Not a whole lot.
Plus, I reject the ******** premise. If the Patriots beat the Falcons (and that's a big IF--they are a great team), it would be a huge feat. The NFC had great teams this year. The Cowboys, Packers, Seahawks, etc.. And the AFC, admittedly a lot weaker, had some strong teams (Texans, Chiefs, Steelers). Just because we made it look easy doesn't mean it was easy. It's because we are that good. The Seahawks game was a wake-up call, and we've run the table since then. We just did it without calling attention to ourselves like family-man Rodgers or walking-boot-berger.
He's a f'ing tomato can writer.

So what makes you say the above? (Please give something more substantial than just a modified version of the "eye test")
Good point on the tackling... Nowadays everyone is looking for the ZOMG BIG HIT SPORTSCENTER HIGHLIGHT and fundamentals have gone out the window for most players/teams... except for NE thank god.Unfortunately, there is no real way to quantify it. The quality of play on the field has steadily gone down hill in the last few years. Even the top teams have major flaws other than maybe the defense. You can look at every team other Pats that made the playoffs and point to at least one major weakness they have. You can go down the list (Steelers defense is mediocre, Dallas had no defense, the Seahawk's o-line is awful, the Falcons' defense is mediocre, etc.). In past years, there would be at least two or three teams in the league without a major weakness.
Also, name all the good head coaches. If Bill Belichick retired, name the current head coaches you would want to replace him (or at least which coach you would consider a decent hire). I bet you can't name four or five current head coaches. There is no coaching in this league. Most of the head coaches in this league, I wouldn't trust with my nephew's Pop Warner team.
Also, teams don't know how to tackle anymore. I blame the revised practice rules in the CBA for that.
