The Patriots DON'T regret hiring Bill Belichick

Wow. IMO there's a huge, huge difference between terrible reporting -- e.g. Tomase/Walsh -- and just making a guess about the future that turns out to be way off base. One is utterly shameful and deserves to be "called out." The other is just funny in retrospect, and comes with the territory of a job that requires predicting the unknown. (That's why they play the games, right?)

If we're going to rake people over the coals for the sin of a wrong prediction, we'd better drum up equal outrage for analysts who were excessively optimistic about the Patriots. I demand a public flogging for everyone who named Jamie Collins a DPOY candidate! They were wrong, and must be held accountable!

Remember when "The Patriots will regret hiring Belichick"?

I wish there were more articles calling out all the mediots for their ridiculously uninformed hot takes.

Maybe it would make them actually think a bit before they opened their fat mouths and let loose another stream of verbal diarrhea.
Thanks for the awesome articles. They were a fun read. To be fair, I remember thinking WTF when Kraft hired BB. They awkward guy who never smiles who was run out of Cleveland? Aye Caramba!

I mean... sure some might have been to rash to judge without even seeing a game. But dude, come on...

Hindsight will always be 20/20.... I bet very few Patriots fans were happy to trade a 1st round pick to a rival for a HC with a losing record...

Actually, I was pretty happy to get BB. I was a cynical mother****er and figured we'd waste the first rounder anyway, but I liked getting a proven DC, and liked that he was sticking it to Parcells. Of course, I never would have expected this run of excellence, but I wasn't all that disappointed to get him after the Carroll debacle.

I was smoking large quantities of weed and chasing tail.. and getting **** faced and graduating high school in 2000.. so I literally had paid 0% attention to the trade. I know he went 5-11 and then the next season I decided I am gonna try and get into football... lol lucky guy I am. I watched them from time to time in the 90's with Bledsoe, I just always remember drew throwing picks in the end zone.. and frustrating the **** out of me. But it wasn't until 2001 when I really started to learn the game and started to love NFL football. I was expecting the Pats to be average.

Great find. Thanks.
I wonder what would happen if someone were to do the equivalent to posts out here...especially in the Game Day threads...interesting to see how many times Brady was called "finished" by posters.

I remember his resignation. I was living working in northern nj, and the press conference was broadcast in our office. I remember the feeling of euphoria I had that the pats asked to interview him, his resignation and the continued storyline until it was finalized.

I stand corrected. Thanks.

We all have opinions on things, we've all been wrong at times and we've all been right at times. It's no different for the coaches and the players as well. We simply cannot predict the future with any certainty.

But many mediots are absolutely convinced that they can forecast the future, and it's the level of their certainty which is absolutely disturbing. They could say, "I don't like this hire for these reasons." I am okay with that, even if it turns out to be wrong. There's a logic to it and a rational way of thinking that I can understand.

But they often scream it at the top of their lungs with absolute certainty. There's very little thought put into these things, just who can yell the loudest or most absurd things. And then they pair people who disagree to argue non-stop about it, and neither of them is actually "thinking," so neither can actually be reasoned with. They just scream louder and louder, digging further and further into their entrenched positions until they utter more and more ridiculous extremes.

Ian shut down the thread I wanted to respond to, so I hope you don't mind me posting my reply here:

LaFell > Moss. Glad to have clutch LaFell playing two years ago instead of Moss

Whyd we let Lafelle go anyways?

You'd rather have LaFell over Moss?

Cmon now...

Whyd we let Lafelle go anyways?
After his erratic injury plaqued 2015 did you want to pay him $3m in 2016 and count $4m vs the cap?

Exactly. I don't know a single Pats fam that was happy with giving up a first round pick to the team that just stole Curtis Martin from us for the guy who bombed in Cleveland. A division rival who seemed to be on the rise at the time and with us sliding towards the bottom. This thread is ridiculous

That wasn't the prevailing attitude among my small circle of Patriot fandom. We all wanted BB and the ultimate price wasn't a mood killer whatsoever.
Instant information wasn't prolific back then. We found out from the ESPN ticker that said (something to the effect) 'BB has been given permission to sign with Patriots for a first round draft pick'. That was a celebration moment for us.

heh...I've slowly come to the conclusion that it's not only drugs but anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive behavior and straight up paranoia that drives sports message boards.
