Lets not forget that the Pats will get Michael Williams back next season. He was developing nicely as an excellent blocking TE, who had some receiving skills
Absolutely, I like him too but more as a TE3. I'd be ecstatic if he develops from quality depth into starter, and that could come in 2018 if Gronk ends up missing significant time again forcing a decision next offseason. but I'd rather have a proven guy and think that positional group will have some good value in FA relative to others.
IF we don't agree with Marty, I like 2017 with Gronk, Willson, Williams and a developmental pick.

Draft Jeremy Sprinkle

Resign Bennett too if you can.

Take OJ Howard, don't worry about anything else.

If the Packers moved on from John Kuuuuuhn, then why can't the Seahawks move on from Luuuuke Wilson?

I don't know if I'm crazy or if everybody else is crazy, but this isn't making any sense to me. Willson's entire 2016 stat line (9 games) would be a slightly above average game for Gronk. People want that to be the Pats' primary backup?

Naturally, we are hoping Marty returns. But assuming the financials don't work out for both sides, there seem to be a host of names out there. I would love to see Luke Willson here as a blocking/receiving TE2, but there are some others. I am just not sure of their ability/willingness to block... anyone have any strong feelings toward:
Griffin - HOU
Tamme - ATL
Sims - MIA
Doyle - IND
V Davis - WSH
Toilolo - ATL
Cameron - MIA
With Marty and all of these names out there, a TE2 could come at a relative bargain, be it on a 1 yr deal or something longer. We probably value TE2 as high as anyone, so it could be a bargain investment.
I hope Bennett returns. I don't know how long his contract is for. But I would assume it is a one year deal. He is the best compliment (in my opinion) to Gronk, they are similar in size and speed. And it would be even more beneficial to us having Marty here to learn the system even more. We would have the most dangerous TE duo in the NFL, plus two of the nastiest blocking TE's in the NFL.

It would appear that the Patriots are now trying to corner the market on Giant Tight Ends as well. Gronk, Bennett and Lengel all 6-6 or 6-7 and no one under 265. Talk about the Towers of Power.
