No excuse for the position not to have been addressed on a larger scale (IMO.) That said, Belichick is obviously on top of it and the return of Lewis will help. Still a bit concerned about the bigger back role, as well as the lack of holes being opened by the OL thus far.

I'll give you a perfect excuse:

Roger Goodell took away the first round pick that could have been used to really try addressing the OL. Combine a first round OT with Jonathan Cooper a/k/a

not getting injured on day frickin' one, and we'd probably all be feeling a lot more positive about that OL right now.

Well I have been right with you on this one and I was surprised we didn't draft or sign a bigger back. Lewis will help for the snaps that he is out there, but given his history it is not unreasonable to think they might ration his snaps. In addition, I don't think he would be the choice for short yardage situations. The line should improve with time, as this position requires more time to gel than other areas. But this will be little comfort for early in the season when you'd like to avoid putting too much on Garoppolo's shoulders. I doubt that OL help is coming (in fact I am doubting Cooper's spot will last if he cannot get out there). I think Devlin becomes very important for short yardage given the RBs and OL difficulties, so I think he gets a spot, possibly instead of say 4 TEs. I also wonder if a bigger blocking TE gets the nod over Derby/Harbor for this reason as well. I see the best hope for improving the situation is bringing in a bigger RB possibly via trade (instead of waiting for final cuts). Probably a long shot now, but if this is going to happen, it should go down in the next week or two. Otherwise, Donald Brown (not ideal at 205, but has had some success) could be the guy.

Brock Vereen called it a career today.

Edelman and Welker are two different players. Welker was almost purely a slot WR, and got open quicker than anyone in the game. Edelman's also has the quicks, if just a notch below Welker, but he's got enough straight line speed that he's able to go outside more. I'd call Edelman more of a hybrid, although that term gets thrown around too much nowadays.
I can't believe die hard fans still call Edelman a slot receiver. Not really much like Wes.

All joking aside about Mitchell, but I bet the vets on the team love this guy. They all saw the injury happen, hell my first thought was IR. I'm sure a few of them were thinking the same thing. The fact that he's out there after hearing the timetable of 4 weeks ? They must be incredibly impressed by his toughness. It personally gives me chills to think he's out there. That is one tough, determined kid. I hope the football gods give him an injury free career. He certainly deserves it after all the injuries he's had.

I want a #19 jersey, but I refuse to do it. Got a Brady jersey in summer 2008, blows out his knee, got a Gronk jersey in 2013, blows out his knee, got a Mayo jersey after his rookie season, misses half the season with a knee injury. No more jerseys for me.

Can you do us all a favor and buy a Marcus Cannon Jersey? Pleaseeeeee

TJ Ward jersey please. Only player in the league that I would actually wish an injury on.

Equally Von miller. He been voted dirtiest player in the league several times.

Ah, the subjective opinions of our local beat writers. Exactly why I take the reports with a grain of salt.

The only thing these reports tell me is that Coleman was targeted quite often today by Bears quarterbacks.

I was there today.

To be fair, Coleman did get beat quite a few times early on in practice, during the 1-on-1 drills with the Bears WRs.

During 11-on-11s, he made a ton of plays and was pretty lock down.

So the contrasting reports aren't really wrong.

Maybe our boys had pancakes this morning, cause when they get that syrup in them they get all antsy in their pantsy!
