He didn't tap dance in the backfield once. Meanwhile, blount, who weighs 250, is upright and sidestepping with one guy in front of him at the Los. I've had enough of the Maroney bs in the backfield from a 260 lb rb. PUT YOUR ****ING SHOULDER DOWN AND DRIVE GOD d%#*!@t, NOT A JUMP STEP AND LOSE 2 YARDS ON 3RD AND 1.

at the end of the game, the last five minutes...if you heard a bellowing voice screaming."call another time out ,coach!" from behind the Saints bench, well, that was me. It's 80 degrees with 90% humidity and THIS azzole, Payton, is coaching like it's the final seconds of a tied Super Bowl. Jeezus krist ,give it a break will ya, Sean. I'm sitting there scraping dirt off my skin from the ****in' air quality of an open sewer and THIS "genius" just has to drag the freakin' game, which is well over, out to the very bitter end. Preseason game one!! C'mon..look, NO McCown has ever led ANYTHING anywhere in the history of the entire human race.Jeezus krist.."we gotta give Luke one more chance to make two scores in under 4 minutes!!!!" said no sober human being EVER!
I notice everyone in this thread has already gone into great depth discussing J.G.'s "performance". In person I'll tell you all how I felt after the first half...we'll be LUCKY to be 2-2 when TB gets back.I'll qualify this by admitting it's only the first preseason game, but right now, JG looks like...uh...well...Luke McCown.
Certainly not trying to overreact or make something of potentially nothing, but something like what he experienced in the AFCCG can change the course of an athlete's career. He seemed to take it pretty hard and that can sometimes have lingering effects on a players psyche. My comparison would be Nick Anderson of the Orlando Magic of the 90's. He missed those free throws in that playoff series and they ended up losing the series (IIRC) and even he admits he was never the same. He was a very solid free throw shooter prior to that game. He never was again in his career afterward. Again, I'm not saying this is Gost, but I think at minimum his performance early bears watching. Also worth noting after a bumpy week gost was a perfect 2 for 2 and hit every XP. Also his kick offs need some work but were okay.
I agree defense will win games.I wasn't impressed either. He was serviceable. Matty Cassell was better.
The D will win their games for them

Precisely what I was thinking...football being a team game and all. I'm not "overhyping" him, but I'm also not going to destroy the kid either. The OLine was not particularly good mostly and he was throwing to some guys who may not be on the team in a few. Even Brady, himself, did not look particularly sharp in the first preseason game last season either for some of the same reasons, though he also didn't play nearly as many snaps obviously.I'm withholding judgment until the guy gets to work with the 5 skill position players that didn't play last night and that will dominate the PT from game one.
Thank you. Great post.I agree defense will win games.
Will be interesting to see how JG does with Edelman, Dola, Hogan, Lewis and Gronk.
Don't forget Cassell looked much worse than JG in preseason. Also Brady didn't get 1 first down in preseason games 1 and 2 last year.
I agree, but we all knew TB would be fine.I agree defense will win games.

He did make some shaky decisions for sure. But it's a matter of reps with him too. He just needs to see more situations. Also, you know the coaching staff will "protect" him a bit and mask as many perceived deficiencies with game planning and play calling as they can. Again, all things considered, I feel the fan base is simply overreacting a bit (not you specifically), especially when you consider how many more reps and situations he'll see between now and September 11. He's likely going to play 2 1/2 quarters against a SB team from a year ago and I fully expect him to get more reps as TC progresses and he'll get ALL the practice reps in preparation for week 1.I agree, but we all knew TB would be fine.
Jimmy was disadvantaged last night but he did make some shaky decisions.
He'll be serviceable but I'm not expecting 75% of Brady's play out of Jimmy.
I just don't get how people seem to generally be dumping on the kid when you consider everything else - throwing to the B thru F squad (Bennett being perhaps the only thing keeping it from C thru F), a shaky at best OLine for various reasons and no running game to speak of for most of his time in the game. What?Hard to really get a read on Garoppolo in this game when he was going against the ones. He didn't exactly have the full compliment of weapons at his disposal. I will say I saw him lock in on his initial read a couple of times and looked nervous before the rush got there. I didn't think the OL looked particularly good in pass protection either, though. On a positive note, the defense looked great.

Is there work to do? Absolutely! But he's got some time yet and I think we all just need to woosah a bit and realize this is precisely the purpose of preseason. You see what guys can do and make adjustments to the guys who stick. I, too, am obviously not expecting anything close to Brady either. But I also want to believe Jimmy can be a little better than "serviceable," even if only slightly. And I'm still not willing to concede 2-2 or 1-3, especially not with a healthy D that, for all intents and purposes, looks like it could legitimately be a top 5-7 unit.
You should have heard some of the call ins on 98.5 after the game. One word - PATHETIC.Yep. People just need to temper their expectations a bit.
I'm confident Jimmy will not suck but he won't be 29-39 for 320 yds and 3 TDs every game either.
I think we will see 2001 Tom Brady which was a very serviceable player with flashes of excellent play.
The key thing for me to see is how the team rallies around him and the energy they play with.
If you want to measure the difference between Bledsoe and Brady in 2001, that was it.
