Outside of Curtis Martin being sensational, that team was just lousy. Drew's stats were awful that year.

Someone remind me, what happened to Drew exactly? Because they were just coming off a year where they won 7 straight to get into the playoffs, and Bledsoe lead the league in yards. Why did Drew's play drop off that year, did he have injuries he was dealing with?
Like most of us, I liked Drew. But, he never had the drive that Brady and many other successful QBs had. Drew wasn't an off season warrior. I'm sure he liked football, I'm not sure he ever loved it.

Martin was taking them to school in the third quarter. I don't know if Perkins or Drew saw something to exploit but whatever it was it was working. IIRC that TD drive was almost all him.

Yep- His damage came in the 3rd qtr.

I was never a fan of Perkins' playcalling- ever.

I really think the Pats win that game outright if Tuna's head was in the game and not elsewhere.

BB is on record as saying it was absolutely a distraction and impacted the team's preparations for the game.

I'm in no position to doubt him but I think the biggest impact was no Troy Brown - who was on all the coverage teams was deactivated b/c with an injury.

I could be wrong, it certainly wouldn't be the first time, and I recall Troy being inactive. I don't recall it being due to injury.

Yup, you were correct. Seems it was a hernia.

Yes. I said he was deactivated.

So I spent my Friday last night digitizing an old VHS copy I had kicking around from 1995 of the Patriots season that year. The tape had degraded big time but thanks to some serious deinterlacing and denoising processing, the image quality isn't that bad. The audio however, is seriously awful although you can make out what is being said if you listen carefully. Anyway, the YouTube link is below so feel free to enjoy the mediocrity that was the 1995 New England Patriots season.

If we still had our real logo and uniforms, I would've watched, and cared.

Good god, you must have been tortured in the cafeteria in middle school...
They put an entire jar of mustard in my winter jacket hood...how did they know I hate mustard?

...glad that whole deactivation thing with Troy was, you know, not literal...

IIRC, Sam Gash also was injured and missed the SB. And IIRC again, Gash also played on the coverage units. 2 big, big losses.

I think this was the year that Bledsoe separated his shoulder. Those last few games he was throwing ducks bouncing in front of receivers.

Say what you want about Drew, but he played hurt.
Drew was a tough S.O.B. for sure.

Interesting notes

We finished 6-10 in 1995 but swept the AFC east division champion buffalo bills that year.

We also went into the playoff bound Miami Dolphins and trounced them 34-17 in Miami. We pushed the 13-3 Kansas City Chiefs extremely close in a 31-26 battle, I remember we committed a dumb penalty at the end of the game which cost us.

After 1995 it was apparent we needed better receiving weapons for Bledsoe which is why Kraft pushed for terry Glenn in 1996

Yep he tore his ACL vs the NYJ.

Ahh love you for posting this. Remember being so excited for this season and let down. One of the best draft classes the franchise has had though.

Curtis martins first carry in the nfl is somethinf ill always remember.

we also pushed the eventual afc champ steelers to the limit in pitt

1995 was Ty Law first year. I remember Maurice Hurst coming into that season as the Pats #1 cornerback, and then being cut mid-season.

What happened to Hurst that year ? Being from Canada I couldn't follow the day-to-day of the team at that time, I thought it was strange to cut a guy who had been the team's best corner the last few years, only 28 years old, and then he's out of the league entirely by 1996...
