NFL Offseason Cuts Thread

Hightower was paid 2.5M last year though. Are you thinking of next year?
Crap I worded it wrong. Meant to say they he will be paid ~$8m for this year. Good catch.

PFT says that 49ers will NOT cut Kapernick

Saints will cut Browner by March 9

Colts to cut Andre Johnson (who's agent is saying that he wants to play at least another year)

slow off season, no big news until mid march so that means, do I have to actually...work? lol

andre johnson is finished. maybe houston brings him back for a year

Johnson is done, time to hand them up.

Andre Johnson is done. He looked terribly slow with the Colts. If we are talking about an old veteran receiver I'd rather take a look at Anquan Boldin. Slow as well, but he's still as physical as ever.

The problem there is that Brady doesn't like to play jump ball with his receivers, Moss was the GOAT in that category and Brady didn't even like it with him. Bolden wins most of those but the ones he doesn't are tailor made for interceptions so I don't see them bringing him in.

Kind of hard to build 3 layers of depth at every position.

That has nothing to do with anything I said. No one is sitting here playing crystal ball with what position will be hit the hardest by injury. That doesn't mean you don't try and upgrade in every area possible in the offseason.

You could easily cut LaFell, which has a high probability of happening, and replace him with Colston or another season vet.

Swapping out LaFell for Colston will not make any other area of the team weaker, by any stretch of the imagination.....

What on earth would motivate you to do such a thing?
I don't like the way that Hightower limped to the end of the last 2 seasons. I fear that his shelf-life as a
productive player, especially at the cap hit it would cost to re-sign him, is not as long as some here would
like to imagine.

Hightower played in the SB with a torn labrum and made the biggest tackle of the game to keep Lynch out of the end zone. Without Donte Butler's game-sealing pick never happens.

I think the Eagles are going to release demeco Ryans.

Could be a replacement for mayo.

Not only would I not have a problem with bringing Boldin on board for a year, I'd openly welcome it. He'd be a fine fit here for what would be asked of him. As you mention, his ability to act as an intermediate/middle of the field physical presence would be huge, particularly as a possession receiver.

He still had 70 catches and 800 yards last season, in a very limited offense with no real QB or RB threats.

I'm not sure that I understand what you're suggesting. Is it that Anquan Boldin's skill set equates to seeing lots of jump balls? Is that even true? Particularly in our offense? With Belichick and Brady? I don't remember seeing that in SF, or any point when he was in ARZ. Perhaps you witnessed a couple of "jump ball Joe" moments in BAL that is skewing your opinion?

His last 3 seasons (all with SF):

85 receptions
83 receptions
69 receptions

All he'd have to do is act as another Givens, Llyod, LaFell, etc--although he'd certainly have more physicality and experience than any of them.
