Peter King: Why NFL Should Give Back Picks to Pats (But Won’t)

If the entire process tells you anything, it's that the whole thing was a railroad......the Wells report and the manner in which is was done and regarded can only lead you to conclude there was a sting operation at the AFCC......the whole thing was a bag job, and it probably would not have mattered even if Brady and Kraft handled it perfectly considering the basis of the evidence.......the pats were going down one way or another......

I absolutely do think it was a sting/bag job with Kensil-****, Vincent, Gardi, Grigson etc and but not sure how clued-in the refs and the underling NFL Ops teams were as their behavior didn't make you think that they were being vigilant.

To be honest, I'm pretty sick of the radio silence from McNally. If the dude never did anything, then why isn't he on TV saying it.

They ripped Brady, a media savvy veteran, for not giving a strong enough denial although he clearly denied any intentional wrongdoing multiple times. .

Can't imagine how they would interpret what McNally would say.

"I went to the bathroom, took a leak and headed to the field."

OH MY GOD!! He admitted it. He said Leak.

Side note: I just re-read Brady's transcripts from that media session and it's just a freaking joke how he had to stand there and answer questions from a bunch of blood sucking leeches based on a 2 psi story created by the NFL.

"Q: For the fans that are watching and looking into that camera, what do you say?"

"Q: You said you didn’t want the balls to be touched after you approved them. You didn’t notice that 15 percent of the air was out of the ball when you started using it? It didn’t strike you during the first half?"

You look back on the while thing and with all the misinformation the NFL was leaking to the press and the letters it was sending to Bob saying balls were under-inflated it's incredible that he did as well as he did in front of that firestorm of parasites

The whole "being called the deflator" reason has got to be the dumbest argument Ive heard. And considering its the crutch a-holes like Felger and Mazz always fall back on its no surprise. A few simple facts/opinions to explain it:

1. Pats balls in NYJ game were over inflated to as much as 16 psi.
2. Brady prefer the psi to be lower.
3. Brady has a bad game.
4. Brady asks JJ why balls were so overinflated.
5. JJ explains refs overinflated balls cuz they thought there were not up to snuff.
6. Brady gets pissed off that the refs altered the balls.
7. Brady and JJ learn the actual rules and find out the legal psi Brady prefers (12.5 psi)
8. Brady informs JJ that he wants the balls at 12.5.
9. JJ asks Brady what he should do if refs attempt to inflate balls again.
10. Brady again gets pissed off saying he want the balls at 12.5, which is the legally allowed psi. And that
if the refs inflate the ball then they should take a needle and deflate the balls to the proper, legal limit.
I'd assume he meant to do it in front of the refs.
11. After several weeks of Brady getting on these guys backs about doing their job correctly, Brady has a bad
game. Hence the texts between JJ and McNally about getting a needle and deflating the balls. Joking
that the balls must be overinflated if Brady is having a bad game.

To advocate for returning the picks while allowing the fine to stand is stupid. The whole point is that nothing happened, so there should be no punishment at all.

Having said that, I don't particularly care if Kraft ends up out a million. It doesn't affect the team on the field. I do care if we're out two draft picks.

#10 never happened. He instructed them to bring a copy of the rules to the refs to make sure they wouldn't overinflate them again. He never said anything about a needle.
The text about Jastremski giving McNally a needle came during a conversation where McNally told Jastremski that his boss must be working his balls over hard and Jastremski told McNally he had a "big" needle for him. These were jokes... referencing their genitals. Wells parsed out the needle comment and used the **** joke as evidence of a tampering scheme. So ridiculous.

Yeah, in retrospect Belichick should have done his stonewall "ask the league" thing, and Brady should have just laughed and said the balls were fine. No press conferences on any of it. They still woulda gotten crucified of course. Whatever.

It's even more ridiculous than that. The "Deflator" comments came in the offseason, BEFORE the Jets game. So think of the timeline from the point of view of "Deflator" supposedly meaning what the league claims it means:

Deflator makes comment in offseason.
Despite already having a "deflator", the balls in the Jets game were at 16 PSI.

And Jastremski stated after the Jets game that the balls should have been 13. Wells just glossed over that as it didn't fit his agenda.

Must have been a pretty ineffective "deflation scheme" for that to happen (16 psi).

You don't think this guy is inconspicuous? The same guy who went ninja on the footballs on the floor of a small bathroom?

It probably takes that guy over 90 seconds to find his balls.

One thing no one knew but Zolak mentioned it one day, Brady was sick as a dog when he did that PC. He probably didn't have is A game that day or he would have come off much better.

Goodell could have easily won in Deflategate. He could have just done this:

-Concluded through Wells that there was suspicious activity and that, while he can't conclude either way if the balls were tampered with, he also cannot vindicate the Patriots or any individual, including Brady.

-The Patriots will be punished, however, since an equipment manager broke the chain of custody and brought the balls into the bathroom without permission. Clearly the punishment should have been less than what was doled out, but it would have damaged their reputation nonetheless. He may have even gotten away with a loss of a first-round pick without much outrage.

-He could have then easily destroyed Brady by then listing a bunch of things (throwing away cell phone, pseudoscience about the deflation, out of context test messages, etc.) but concluding that he simply does not have certainty as to Brady's role.

Deflategate would have been over and all the Patriots supporters would have been marginalized conspiracy theorists, while the team and Brady would have been cheaters who got off easy, while Goodell would have been hailed for handling a difficult situation while still penalizing the Patriots, especially in reputation. The mainstream media would not have cared much about independent scientific reports or given much scrutiny regarding the false leaks, etc.

So, in many ways, we are fortunate that Goodell was so arrogant in going after Brady and the Player's Union, as this as just exposed the NFL and not the Patriots. Now everything is under scrutiny, the loss of picks, the investigation, the science, and fundamental fairness. What it's really done is given Brady time to clear his name and for everyone to see this sham for what it is. All because Goodell's massive ego and belief that the world will succumb to his will.

BTW, Goodell & Co. still have a way out, and it's the negotiations with the NFLPA about discipline. They could "agree" to delay the team penalties pending the outcome of the Brady hearing, and then drop them when/if Brady wins. They could position it as a sign of good faith.

They won't do it, though.

Unfortunately, fairness is subjective in the NFL involving a team like the Patriots. Goodell just doesn't see how that approach ultimate damages "the shield."

I sure don't feel "fortunate". I feel insulted, wronged, infuriated and incensed. Perhaps it's because I am older than Goodell and I despise his idiotic, punkazzed attitude he so cavalierly displays towards me and MY peers.

I'm missing something. Everything you stated above the NFL did.

Thats the key strategic error by Goody. If Goody left TB12 alone this thing would have been over.

During a recent service trip I got into a conversation explaining the science behind deflation etc....

In the middle of the conversation it dawned on me that I really don't give a **** if this yahoo believes me or not. hahahaha

I know and I think everyone should now know that 2 psi, 20 psi, 0.0002 psi is not going to turn a Sanchez into a Brady.

It still amazes me though how the NFL was able to turn 0.2 psi into the story of the century.
