We're on to 2016. Think FA/Trades as in 2007 rather than the #60 Draft choice [sign the beast v 004]

I agree Collins & Hightower are priorities, but I am onboard with the trade Chandler Jones idea, for value.

He was invisible yesterday against a backup LT & most of his sacks were a result of someone else getting there 1st & chasing the QB to him.

I know this might stick in your craw, but Jones was doubled most of the time against the Broncos..

Josh Gordon
Enough said

Gordon is suspended and needs the Commish's ok to return.. And his next strike is the end of him.. Just like Blackmon.

That's exactly the type of FA signing we should consider, as he's a guy who can come here on a reasonable deal and contribute for relatively cheaper money.

I still think they're absolutely crazy if we go yet another year without addressing the RB position in the draft, though. Ultimately, we can get 2 halfway decent (or at least "serviceable" backs) players from this method, and both of those RBs can add talent/depth/competition/rotations behind Dion Lewis.

Add in Bolden as RB4 and one of Gaffney/Devlin as RB5, and our RB situation would improve tremendously.

Who should they target? And is that player worth more than an OT or ILB?

An interesting double move I would consider is sign JPP to a Revis type of deal where you get him for one year where you get him at one year below market value but the second year options ensures for him that if he has a bounce back season you cannot franchise him. You then trade Chandler Jones for a pair of second rounders or a third this year and a first in 2017. JPP gives you a year with the Nink, Sheard rotation while Flowers and Grissom continue to develop. At the end you get a third for JPP and either two seconds or a first and a third for Jones and keep a lot of cap space open for Hightower, Collins and others.

No thanks on JPP.. IMHO the hand issue shows that he has a head issue..

A running back that is a free agent and will not likely break the bank is CJ Anderson. He's still very young (only 24, 25 in 2 weeks) can run and catch the ball..

No to Fleener, he's just a more athletic Chandler, bad hands and can't block, I'd rather sign Dwayne Allen.

Marvin Jones and Kearse would be great. I'd like to see them go for both, neither should break the bank. Clear out all of the receivers not named Edelman.

Alfred Morris might come cheap.

Allen had all but 16 catches last year. You sure you want him?
Hernandez could not block and that TE "H" back offense was spectacular. FYI Fleener has had over 50 catches the last three years in a row. Not too bad for metal mitts ya think?

Yep he is a 4.45 TE......... who is faster than Amendola, LaFell, James White, Chandler and Gronk (so what on Gronk) and tied with Martin. Oh Yeah...much faster than the 4.6 40 yard Hernandez. Remember AH was ony 6'1" and 245 compared to 6'6" 251 Fleener. I'll take Stanford over prison any day for smarts.

Out of the two, I'd absolutely take Allen over Fleener. Fleener' s a bad football player, he can't catch and he can't block. He truly is nothing more than an athletic Chandler. Allen is an all around better player, staying in to block is one of the reasons for his low catch total. He is a little injury prone.

Fleener is useless as a blocker, it would make no sense to sign him. Unless that is, you'd want to have Gronk stay in and block so Fleener could drop every other pass thrown to him and immediately fall down on the ones he does catch.

I don't dislike Fleener, but he's not the freak that a 4.45 40 would suggest. Hernandez was a freak when it came to change of direction abilities. Fleener's 40 time is misleading because he's really fast from the 20 to 40 yard range, but he's not really noticeably faster than Gronk from 0 to 20. That'd be a good example of why 40 yard dashes aren't terribly helpful for guys who so rarely run that far in a straight line.

Oh Mayo is gone no question. And after disappearing for the last third of a season, AGAIN, will anyone really miss Chandler? If we can get a solid guard or a high 2nd round pick I say pull the trigger with a trade.

Mayo isn't going anywhere Belichick loves him and Mayo is rational and that he has to completely redo his deal, just as Wilfork did when everyone here was writing him off as done in New England.

Chandler Jones is a really good DE and I don't want him going anywhere if they can get reasonable deal done with him, and so far the only people saying that won't happen are the same people who are are saying they won't miss him if he leaves. And as much as I would love a high second founder I wouldn't take one for Jones.

If so, that is likely going to mean not only freeing up money from trading Jones and cutting Mayo (to start), but also waiting until one of Hightower/Collins hits the legal tampering period next spring.

I think we'll attempt to retain some of our own players while making the usual lower/middle tiered splashes that add depth and competition to certain positions of need.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them be aggressive after a need to offset the loss of the pick it will just depend upon the fit ( right player, right money). I'm just starting to look at the lists and it looks like it will be a pretty strong market. That could change given the way the cap has been going up but I expect the Patriots to come out of free agency a good deal stronger than they go into it. The thing I don't want them doing is what many here want them to do which is to get rid of half the team before free agency starts and then replace them. There are clearly some guys who need to redo their deals but they are guys who want to be here, like Mayo and Amendola, and they are strong leaders on a young team. Imo the best approach is to do as little damage as possible heading into free agency and get those deals done. They don't need to cut guys like Dobson or Fleming because they are under contract and don't really affect their çap situation. They can carry them right up to cuts and see if they have improved enough to stick, and while I'm as down on Dobson as most here are we have to remember that he's only 24 and its still possible the light could go on and he could still turn into a good player for them, and the same goes for Fleming and the other young players who are in the bubble area, there's no reason to get rid of them now let's see how their off season goes.

Despite the loss of the draft pick I'm really interested to see what they do this pffseason., following the draft is tougher because they have to wait a draft lifetime before their first pick, but their decisions on who they are keeping and who they are going after should be interesting.

I could see Bill trading Chandler Jones to the 49ers (Chip Kelly) for a high 2nd and 6th rd pick

Good thing is he's nothing like Blackmon. He should also come cheap whether it's trade or FA.

Not happening as long as Lombardi is here.

What's the background between the 2??
Lombardi put his ego aside cause Gordon could have a Moss like impact on arrival. He would force CB2 on Edelman and that's game over already.

Lombardi was the GM who had enough of Gordon's crap and had a trade all planned out to get rid of him until the owner vetoed it. The Patriots and Falcons (with Joe Banner) are the two teams that will know every single detail of everything Gordon did wrong in his early Browns career, which was not just the drugs like so many people think.

Great idea, trade a pro bowl caliber pass rushing DE who knows their defense for a roll of the dice on second round pick. It's the stupid season for sure.

When the last time BB had to give Roger his @1 pick, he lit up the FA market and trades that prior year. They picked up seven Free Agents and traded for Welker (kind of a trade) and Moss who were both Pro Bowlers. Although everyone that is at least partially intelligent believes this “penalty” is a rip off, we have to hope that this Draft does not become the worst Draft ever as in 2008.

Every year we talk and dream about 2007. FA’s and Trades helped TB and were within one fluke play of perfection. Why are the Pats still concerned about the distant future while TB is in his twilight? Draft choices are nice but they are a crap shoot for three years of maturing for result. TB might not play that long.

Obviously a key move would be "if" the Lions cut Megatron, you through the kitchen sink at a 30 year old player to go out for a last good run for a few years with Brady. Can you imagine the Broncos trying to cover he and Gronk? I don't want Megatron for stretching the field. He might fly once or twice a year. I want him for Brady's sweet spot or short and medium and jump balls. You can't triple Team Gronk with a Megatron.

Thanks to Miguel's numbers we are about $6mm under. Cleaning out the roster I see Mayo, Amendola, Cannon, LaFell, Scott Chandler, Kline and Dobson as potential cuts or salary re-negotiations. That is almost $23 million. So you can go into FA with $30mm.. You don't have to keep a lot of money for Draft picks. You have maybe a third rounder comp. for Revis (you can trade this year) and three 6ths. Anyway, the Draft is not going to have a big impact on the 2016 Pats IMO.

The only UDFA I want to resign is DT Akeim Hicks. He played well and could be a key in the future.

Alshon Jeffries WR. The obvious best bet FA for the Pats. Better than LaFell and Dobson and although I love Amendola, still better than Danny. That is $12mm we have tied up in three basically back up WRs. Jeffries gets done for less $ than that. Megatron might be done for that number but he is still with the Lions.

Don't stop there. Mohammad Sanu WR from the Bengals. Also a Rutgers guy. Makes plays and has size at 6'2" and 210. He is their #3 WR but they can't sign he and Marvin Jones.

As a side bar, we have Dion Lewis coming back. Why not give James White a full off season at WR? He is bigger than JE. TB trusts him. Let him have reps on the full tree.

TE Coby Fleener. He had over fifty catches for the Colts. He's 27 , 6'6" and 251lbs and he has speed. We thought this was Chandler but a fail on that. This is a no brainer if the $ is right. The Colts have a TE decision to make with two FAs. Brent Celek would be my TE backup here. He is 31 and making $5mm with the Eagles who will want him to take a pay cut or cut him. A better blocker than Fleener. He still is good for 30 catches a season.

Kelvin Beachum is an athletic LOT for the Steelers. Was having an outstanding year. ACL will drive down his $ number but he is only 26. If we can get him for Kline+Cannon money (about $5mm) we do that. He could move inside unless Solder is still slow to recover. He can give us depth and an instant OT upgrade at least over Cannon and Fleming. Can't see us waiting for a Draft choice to mature. Beachum is a player that the Steelers would like to keep. Would help us and hurt the Steelers.

Here is my shocker. S Eric Weddle "has a skill set that tons of teams are looking for to shore up the back end of their defenses. His age (30) works against him, but few safeties have been better over the last five years". This guy is smart and fits BB's wheelhouse. He and McCourty would be special paired as Saftey tandem. Let Chung play your hybrid OLB that he plays well. Buchannon of the Cards is a converted Safety. Mistakes happened in the DB backfield yesterday like on the first Denver TD. I can't see where we would not get "Rodney" years out of Weddle and an on the field smart guy who make more plays frankly than McCourty.

Thoughts? Changes?

Oh look a fantasy football free agent thread! Literally none of those things are going to happen and white is not going to be moved to wide receiver because there would be no point, they would just keep him at rb and move him out wide a lot.
