Not a snowball chance in hell a good show like that or All In The Family ends up on TV again...

Well, no, due to the sensitivity of racial issues. While I don't think people should be as sensitive as they are no matter what their color is (easier for me to say as a white man), I can respect the fact that you aren't going to hear words like "honky" etc on network television in the year 2015. That's just not going to happen anymore. And that's just what George Jefferson said. Imagine hearing someone say the things that Archie Bunker said. While admittedly funny at times no matter who was saying them (Archie or George), things have changed and it would be very offensive to many in today's society.

Luckily, the entertainment industry then couldn't hold a candle to the one today, with services such as Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, and Amazon leading the way. Add in the fact that we have many more cable/satellite channels, a higher volume of entertainment to choose from, much better special effects, and you get better options. Although I was only a little kid, I do remember having rabbit ears with 3-4 channels until cable came around in the early 80s. While I think that shows like "All in the Family" were (and still are) very good and they represented their era nicely, I'm not as sure that we're looking back without the bias of sheer nostalgia in play, at least on some level.

I come down on the other side of that. 4 years just simply isn't long enough. Sayers gets the dispensation for the 'shortened by injury' vote - but bear in mind Sayers also returned punts and kicks at an extremely high level as well.

I would tend to agree with you that I'd lean towards him not playing long enough to make it, but would certainly be open to the discussion nonetheless.

Are you certain? Anyway, I hear the team just gave the 39 number to Jackson without telling Montee Ball anything, he came in and saw that he had number 31 in his locker. No discussion, nothing. That is cold. Hehehe.

Exactly what I expected, though.

Jackson obviously gets the right to have the number, whereas Ball is lucky to even be a member of the practice squad. No brainer in this situation.

Agreed.

I mean we're talking about a HOFamer vs a decent RB at best.

Hope Jackson has his jersey numeber of broken tackles these next five games.

Yeah I said five

# 39 like the great SAM BAM CUNNINGHAM !!!

The drive for five, baby!

Five games to get to SB victory #5.

Part of me thinks TV needs Archie more than ever. By positioning his bigotry as a by-product of ignorance, he could take on every single ultra sensitive topic and expose its silliness -and seriousness while spouting god, country and the American way.

Can you imagine an episode with Muslims moving in next door? LOL

Nah I'll have to disagree.

Jonas Gray was not a JAG (and while I have you here, what does JAG mean? I've been lurking here for the past two years and I never knew what the anagram was for, I just know it means a bum). I reeaaaallly would appreciate it if our fanbase could stop pretending like once a player leaves our team they're all of a sudden the most terrible player to ever play the position. It's annoying and low class.

Anyway, as I was saying, Gray was a very good player. He's everything Blount is, but better in my opinion because he hits holes faster, has better balance and ALWAYS falls forwards. He had a better game vs the same Colts team so why is everyone so hard on Gray again, but not Blount? That's homerism as far as I'm concerned.

It means "Just Another Guy".

Gray had multiple weeks last season and an entire offseason to show that he can offer something and contribute but he did zilch. And after he was cut he kept on showing nothing for every other team that picked him up. Also the majority of people here were calling Gray for what he is long before he was cut. You are simply overvaluing his performance against the Colts as the win was mostly because we out-schemed them and not because Gray ran so ferociously.

Also, he is being evaluated in practice by professional coaches with years of experience. And we are not talking inept Browns-level of coaching but people who were able to consistently find diamonds in the rough - especially in the flexback position. They know exactly what they are looking for and unfortunately Williams didn't seem to possess it. Let me stress this again, they have a pretty good idea of what they are looking for in this particular role.

Think about it-- this is almost exactly Tom Brady's story. Brady hadn't proved himself in practice so he didn't start but he had an opportunity when Bledsoe went down. I'm just saying I think we should have seen what Williams could bring to an actual game.

It is not even close to being the same story. Brady outplayed Bledsoe during training camp. There are coaches on record saying that. Now is it a surprise to anyone that he turned into the GOAT ? Of course but he showed the coaching staff enough to be kept around as fourth QB after his initial TC and then worked his way up the depth chart to number 2 during 2000. Williams did apparently nothing to be kept around on a team starving for RBs.

Disclaimer-Huge Steven Jackson fan here.

His 2014 stats don't shout out to me "washed up". 190 carries for 707 yards with 20 receptions for 148 yards. Even at 3.7 yards a carry, which he averaged in 2014, he would have been a 1,000 plus rusher last year if they kept feeding him the ball the average of his 10 year career. I don't think the Falcons used him enough.

His reception total in 2014 was less than half that he averaged throughout his career. Now he has the GOAT throwing to him and Brady needs a quick option. It's what the Pats have been missing without Lewis and Edelman. He's exactly what we need.

Just for fun I took Steven Jackson's 2014 stats and Devonta Freeman's stats this year. I then adjusted Jackson't stats to what he hypothetically would have gained if he had the same amount of opportunities as Freeman has had this year based on Jackson's 2014 average yards per carry/catch. This is the hypothetical outcome:

2015 Devonta Freeman
218 rushing attempts for 907 yards
68 receptions for 543 yards

2014 Steven Jackson (Adjusted)
218 attempts for 807 yards
68 receptions for 503 yards

I think Christmas came a little early for us guys. I can't wait to see him play.
Exactly what I expected, though.

Jackson obviously gets the right to have the number, whereas Ball is lucky to even be a member of the practice squad. No brainer in this situation.
if football doesnt work out, montee can be a Ball boy

Practice squad players are still members of the team and are not or should not be treated any different than a guy on the 53 on a personal level. If the team thought that the number was significant they should have informed him, however why would it be? He did not wear that number either as a pro or as a badger.

No poster here thought it was appropriate when Tannihill belittled the PS DBs.

I disagreed with your post because you seem to just be disagreed to be disagreeable.

You left two disagrees on my posts without a rebuttle.

But please go ahead and retroactively work your way onto my ignore list.

You said McDaniels can go because his play calling has been suspect these last two years and he gets too cute. That's just stupid. He's arguably the best offense coordinator in the league, his "cute" play calling helped us win a Super Bowl. When Julian Edelman threw that TD to Danny against the Ravens last year were you complaining that Josh was getting "too cute?" I highly doubt it. Hell, the offense was looking like the best offense in the league last year after week 4, when the oline tightened up. Must've been due to his suspect play calling. Our offense was looking like 2007 levels this year before all the injuries. Must've been due to his suspect play calling. Speaking of 2007, who was the Ocoordinator for that team? Oh yeah, Josh McDaniels. And don't give me any of that "Brady makes Josh" ******** because the very next year when Brady went down and our backup QB who hadn't started a game since freakin high school, the offense still managed become a top 10 offense in the league. Must've been because of his suspect play calling. Let's take a look at 2013 when the injuries to the offense were worse than they are this year. Down the stretch McDaniels realized it'd be best if this offense became more of a power running offense and it worked beautifully letting Blount run wild. Guess his play calling was too cute for his own good.

So no, I wasn't disagreeing with your post to just be disagreeable. I disagreed with your post because you were saying stupid things.

In fact, you're the one that got butt hurt and disagreed with my post just to be disagreeable. Funny how that works.

And threatening me with your ignore list? Go ahead, I really don't give a ****.

there were many great defenses which failed to win it all because of a mediocre offense. and it only takes couple of bad seasons and a bad draft pick to make the fans restless and be out of the job. BB is a great coach, but to win a SB many things have to go right like finding the GOAT in the 6th round.

Who's to say BB wouldn't have found his QB if he didn't get Brady? Who's to say BB and his wiley vets wouldn't have won at least one of those SB's without Brady? Brian Billick, Tom Coughlin, and Mike Tomlin have all one SB's and they didn't have Tom Brady and they're nowhere near the football genius that BB is, so why can't BB win one without Tom? And don't cite his time in Cleveland because that was before he read the Holy Grail of football books:

Amazon product ASIN 1571671722
After reading this book he decided he was gonna run his next football team just like how Bill Walsh outlines how to in this book. And holy crap check out the prices on that book. The cheapest is $530 and the most expensive is over $3000.

But yeah, anyways I don't see why people think BB would've been a failure in New England if he didn't have Tom. He's considered one of the greatest coaches ever for a reason.

Welcome aboard the Super Bowl express Mr Jackson.

5 Games to Glory and the Super Bowl ring he's always wanted. I'm betting he has enough left in the tank for that.

Josh McDaniels is a great offensive coordinator. However, his lack of success in St. Louis and Denver goes to show that without a good quarterback, there's no coordinator in the league who can overcome that handicap. The Patriots are a better offense than other teams with good or great quarterbacks, and McDaniels is a reason (not the only reason) why.

When the offense does well, everyone praises Brady. When they struggle, everyone blames Josh.

OK, settle down (@glm @Th3Birdman) and let's try and keep the thread on topic.

It's hard to judge what Josh was in Denver without being able to complete what he started. As far as I'm concerned Denver fans should be thanking him every time they hear his name. He was able to unload Jay Cutler which many thought was crazy while others though impossible. Take your pick.

He then tries to impose discipline by getting rid of Marshall to show that no 1 player is bigger than the team and personal antics won't be tolerated.

Gets crucified for drafting Tebow but gets no credit for Demaryis Thomas or Eric Decker. Wins a playoff game they have no business winning against Pittsburgh and also turned Kyle Orton into a world beater as well as got good production out of Knowshon Moreno.

Well let's see what would of happened if Elway decided to go out and get Manning for McDaniels while he was there.

Cleaning house isn't easy and sometimes it ends in disaster but it may be possible McDaniels knew what he was doing, just too much friction along the way and not enough time to see it all fall into place.
