Easley to IR

that stinks, but I think the injury is not severe......I think they see a 4-6 week thing for him to get back to full strength and that's too late.......need to use the spot for more RB's and WR's as they have plenty of beef at DT.......give hicks the snaps and let him play for his contract

easley is good but at a position where there's plenty of depth and hicks is doing well

It looked to be quad related, based on the position he was in when the injury occurred. His legs were under him and he was driving up into a larger OLman. He wasn't extended at the knee or bent severely at the waist, which would stress the hamstring. I'd also note that during ACL recovery, the focus is on strengthening the hamstring, as it supports the ACL in stabilizing the knee and preventing it from hyperextending. The quad is a knee extensor and therefore certain exercises to strengthen it are avoided during ACL rehab to prevent stressing the or overpowering the recovering ligament, so in a sense this could be related to his prior injury history. Fortuntaely, with a muscle tear like this, he can begin recovering right away, first by spinning the bike and later by heavier work. He'll get a full off-season in the S&C program, and that will be the perfect medicine for him. I fully expect him to come back better than ever. Shame he couldn't be hear for the big games, however.
Very good post. I personally am not knowledgeable re: muscle building post ACL surgery and this makes sense to me. As you say, it does seem that he needs some additional strengthening and maybe additional flexibility in the area.

With that said, sounds like they were lucky to get the 273 defensive snaps out of them as it was.

Before he got hurt, he was getting pressure on the QB once every 12 passing plays. Not too shabby.

Hightower is mine. The pressures created by Hightower, Collins and Easley have helped this defense no-end this year. We should expect pressure from the DEs, it's this ancillary support from the non DEs that have made this defence, and the pass rush, so much better this year.

I agree with everything you said Manx. Those three players are really exceptional and give everyone around them a way bigger margin of error. Definitely, more sad about Easley landing on IR than about Blount.

Truth be told, Chandler been a no show for the past 3-4 games.

I like Jones, but he def benefits from Collins/ Hightower/Easley.

Clearly didn't watch the games.. SMH.. Jones has been doubled and still has made plays during those games..

That really hurts, he was getting better and better, but maybe we lucked out a little because the way he was out against the Steelers in week 1 I thought he was going straight to the IR back then.

The thing is that I think Easley is that kind of player who can get a sack in a crucial moment, a significant sack, I don't see Chandler Jones getting many of those, Ninkovich on the other hands is always clutch.

Show me where Jones has been doubled? Please do...ill be waiting.

Clearly YOU havent been watching the games

I wouldn't say that they were lucky or unlucky. Pro football is a *****. Easley is a bit undersized and was getting a lot of mileage out of bull rushes and counter moves. Sometimes you pull (i.e., tear) a muscle when you are pushing that much weight (especially if it's an OLman who is fighting back). In this case, the injury was bad enough that there's not enough time to heal-up to a level where he can be effective soon enough to spare the roster spot in the near term. By IRing him, they put him in a position to succeed next year. They'll miss him, as he brought something none of the other DL do with that low center of gravity and explosiveness, but at least they have some good depth there.

.... There are extremely few non-QBs in the league that I think is worth that kind of money, and absolutely no non-QB that is worth more than $15M per year. For $14M you should be the best at your position, and play an important position(Butler, Sherman, WR). ...
Fixed that for you.

Patriots sign DT Ishmaa'ily Kitchen to active roster and LB Kevin Synder to practice squad
FOXBORO – The Patriots made a series of roster moves on Wednesday, signing defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen to the active roster and linebacker Kevin Synder to the practice squad. The team also released running back Trey Williams from the practice squad.Kitchen takes a roster spot vacated by Dominique Easley, who was placed on the injured reserve Tuesday. The 6-foot-1, 330 pound nose tackle has spent time in Baltimore, Cleveland and Detroit. From 2012 to 2014, he appeared in 40 games with the Browns, making three starts. The 27-year-old appeared in one game this season with the Lions. Kitchen has 78 career tackles.

I was more talking about Primetime revis(which is one of few who could be worth$15). I think your insane if you think Butler has played to a $14M level this year.

Thought you were talking current, not history. So maybe Butler hasn't been best in league, but this year Butler >> this year Revis.

Maybe. He's definitely been the by far best player $ for $. Still, Butler isn't playing at a $14M level. My whole point in the post was that very few players outside QBs are worth that. You have to be really special to be worth that much in my opinion, and play a position that's worth that much.

It's not a nag on Butler. I think he's really good. It's just that $14M is not just really good. It's absolutely amazingly special to me. Just one or two players on any given valuable position(outside of QB) is worth that in the league today according to me. And right now I'd say that only Sherman has shown consistently for a long time that he's worth that at corner.

also for me he was getting better and better...pity that ended in this way...probably he would have been a huge factor going on in the season

let's wish him a good recovery for a good next football season

I agree with those saying that Easley being placed on IR (instead of waiting 4+ weeks) has more to do with trying to fill other roster spots. Pats probably already knew Blount was truly done for the season.
