Bolden as FB?

Bolden at this point, is our 3rd down back until he is supplanted by either White or Lewis, although on some snaps they will try to pass him off as FB if there is another back on the field.

If we don't take on a FB, then my bet is that Mason will be the FB. He can truck and he can get to the 2nd level pretty quick. This will give him some good reps that he would otherwise have if he wasn't such an inconsistent blocker. Stoning the LB looking to fill the hole will be good practice in helping him to learn how to finish his blocks using good technique.

How do you figure?

When BB tried out Junior Seau in the role, he mentioned the importance of experience in diagnosing situations and making the right decision, drawing an analogy between ILB and FB as both needing large elements of that mental skill. So we'll see if he really tries a raw rookie there.
While that is true in some aspects he has used Cannon and Flemming as 6th blockers (specifically against the Colts). I think they checked in as ineligible TE's or receivers or something like that. I remember him using Klecko in that role even though I think he was a DL.

I do remember him saying that, but I don't think it's etched in stone he only uses veterens. Klecko comes to mind as well. With that being said the chances of Mason checking in at FB are slim IMO. He's a guy who I'm concerned as a 4th Rder what his role is and making the roster barring injuries coming out of this preseason.

Here's one to ponder. What about Easley? That would be a pretty interesting experiment.

From what I have seen and read on twitter, and from most camp reports, that is where Bolden has been taking most of his reps.

Backfield or inline only?

I do think that they sometimes report as eligible, rather than it always being the case that Solder kicks out, so I agree with you about that part.

bolden seems to have been pretty bad in that role in the pre-season games.....White/Lewis have been much better as a passing back

He is no Vereen, but he is serviceable and will continue in that role until White or Lewis pick up enough of the playbook to be comfortable out there (as well as earning Brady's trust).
