NFL Playoffs: Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys - odds, stats, preview and prediction

How the hell can you not see it?
Whatever you're seeing, you're misinterpreting. Since you referred to the post as "racist", I think the onus is on to you explain what about it was racist. I invite you to do it in a PM, however.

one guy says he's running backwards and you say he's stopped and the both of you are trying to tell me what the rules STATE. It hasn't got anything to do with me. It has to down with the 2014 RULE CHANGES. The DB has clear contact with the receiver past the five yard limit with his back turned to the ball. All the ball has to be is in proximity in the field of play They've called that penalty dozens and dozens of times, and they have also not called it...bUT...until today, NO ref has called it and then, minutes later, without explanation, reversed the call.

This obviously doesn't bother YOU guys, but it bothers me...

Yes, but the contact was the result of the receiver stopping short and turning. That's not on the DB. It can't be. If that's on the DB, all quarterbacks have to do from now on is bean cornerbacks in the spine with the football and it's a free 1st down.

Nobody here called him a thug or gangster. But he does deserve to be called a punk. That you can't argue with.

Either way, your sig irritates folks around here for valid reasons, which is reason enough to end it.

Changed it just for you, pumpkin.

how did this turn into a **** Sherman thread?

Seattle fans love Sherman because they feel like it changes their "passive aggressive" nation wide stereotype. Also wouldn't Ali tell his opponents that he was going to beat them up and then he did? Sherman has said that Ali was one of his biggest influences and maybe thats why he is like he is.

But to be fair he only has fueds with Crabtree and P.Peterson.

P.S. Jim brown is the NFL's equivalent to the "GET OFF MY LAWN" old guy.

You think this was a bad officiating game? Wait till you watch the Denver game next week, they will be eating Papa Johns at half time while humming Nationwide theme.

I am not sure i will watch that game for long as the ball washing will be just putrid

The NFL released a statement saying the referee saw the defender as face guarding and hadn't committed DPI. Which is exactly what I figured. Again, could've gone either way.

It's not like the receiver cut to the left or cut to the right and then got mauled. He stopped, turned, and tried to catch a football in the defensive backs running lane, which hit the DB in the back.

If you and I are running full speed together and I stop right in front of you (after the pass was thrown, mind you, on a timing based play), what are you supposed to do about it?

The receiver knows the play and the timing of the play. The DB doesn't. He can't be expected to know a ball is coming his way when the receiver hasn't even turned towards it. The pass makes all the difference here. It hit the DB. It was a bad pass. You're sandwiching the defensive player between a receiver and a pass on a timing based play. Totally unfair in my opinion.

Agree to disagree.

There's nothing to disagree about. It's 100% DPI. Even the referee's explanation backs that. The overrule was supposedly because a second official thought it was just a face guarding. In other words, they let the official with the worse angle overrule the better placed official. It was clearly more than just a face guard.

I'm one who's consistently railed against the new interpretation of the rule, but this is a 100% spot on DPI by that new interpretation.

So what are defensive backs supposed to start doing? Stopping periodically to make sure a timing based pass isn't heading for the back of their head? Be prepared for football games with triple digit scores if that's the case.

I agree, the defender face guarded and there was a negligible amount of contact, the ball was badly thrown as well. That's a 50-50 call. The more you sell the likelier you getting the call. The lions guy grabbed at him towards the end to sell it but it wasn't enough. If the ball is thrown better I think the line judge doesn't challenge the ruling.

It would have been.... if the ball didn't hit Hitchens in the back. Ball is uncatchable UNLESS Hitchens graciously gets out of the way for Stafford's bad pass to connect. Can't really demand he do that.

Dude, they blew the call. There's no 50/50 here. The officials screwed the pooch. Calling it 50/50 is an insult to all people with eyes and brains. Go watch the Ravens game.

Unless the ball is expected to pass through the defender like he's a ghost, I don't know how that ball is catchable.

I don't have a dog in this fight with regard to these two teams. Anyways congrats to the Cowboys for making it through to the next round of the playoffs.

Are we doubling down on initial reactions here or are we evaluating this play?

If that's pass interference than having your WR run 15 yards before turning abruptly without a cut, for a ball that was already thrown, is now an automatic 1st down as long as the QB aims for the unknowing defenders back and the receiver turns in time for it to hit him.

The only really obvious contact is the hand fighting prior to the ball arriving but Pettigrew initiates it, and the defender moves his hand away other than that it's meh. The Ravens had a lot more obvious DPI's but I'm not sure which you are referring. Torrie Smith physically taking steps going back to a ball and being impeded is waaay more clear than this.

No, actually, it's not. It's the same call (underthrown pass with receiver trying to get back to it, defender runs into receiver), which is the point. You're wrong with the thug nonsense, and you're wrong with the call.
