Blount Released

If we ever got a 10+ point lead in the playoffs/SB heading into the 4th quarter, having Blount would be huge. I would take him back for the rest of the year if he would be content with his role (why would he be if he wasn't in Pitt?)

Gray: starter, 75-80% of carries
Blount: reserve, 4th quarter clock killer

.....assuming he doesn't take off his uni before the 4th quarter and leave in a huff.

The argument is not Blount vs. Gray.

It is what do we have behind Gray if he gets injured.
Not sure that if blount came here he wouldn't be taking carries away from Gray pretty quickly.
I think there is an overreaction to Gray happening. Lets not forget his first 3 games were 3/12, 17/86, 12/33.

Don't see us putting in a claim. Not after the Indy game. Why risking upsetting the balance in the locker room?

Blount is not big enough of an upgrade (if at all) for that.

There's no reason for NE to put in a waiver claim, because of how low they are on the list.

Despite the fact he was terrible this season, I'd frankly prefer to bring Ben Tate in as insurance over Blount. I wouldn't touch him on waivers - he has an absurd contract that no one should want anything to do with - but Tate at least has pretty solid hands and pass protection skills, which Blount does not.

I can't believe that the Steelers just released him. His salary is pretty steep, so I'm not sure anyone will claim him. If he does clear waivers, my bet would be back with Talib in Denver. Which will suck, because that is exactly what Denver needs.

I would be thrilled if the Pats resigned him, but I highly doubt that is going to happen.

Why would you keep Bolden if you had Blount???
How would an injury backup guy (Blount) affect Gray's confidence? He's not a wimp.

If NE does go against my wishes and bring Blount back, it will likely mean White gets a bad case of stubbed-toe-itis. Bolden is too productive on special teams.

What I believe you're saying is that given how far down we are on the list, don't sign him off waivers at current contract but instead try to sign him at vet min or so after he's cleared waivers.

Special Teams for bolden.

Yes. It would essentially become Gray/Blount instead of Ridley/Blount.

Well, It doesn't cost them anything. They have put in claims for waived players often while being on the end of the waiver wire list. It would resolve any contract issues.

But not putting out a claim is more about symbolism.. our locker room is a meritocracy and Gray has earned his shot.

If he clears waivers, you can pretty much guarantee he's a Bronco. He sees an opportunity for touches and gets to re-unite with Talib.

Broncos are getting 1 of these guys...

Blount is so overrated. Two good bad-weather games and the guy is Jim Brown. He's fine.

Ummmm......look outside. Bad weather on the way the next few months.

You can put James White on the Invented Injury list (let's face it, he's a 3rd nipple until Vereen leaves next year).

If Jonas Gray gets injured, the Pats running game is kaput. Blount would be insurance down the stretch. I have no need for him in September or October games.

There's nothing wrong with them putting in the claim, because bonuses have been paid. I'd, personally, prefer to see them put the claim in. I just don't see BB doing it. There's no need to deal with that second year if BB doesn't want to, and he seemed to make his position on that pretty clear when he let Blount walk after last season.
