If we draft a QB, which QB would you want?

My point is that I do not want to draft a QB in the first five rounds in 2014. Brady has four years remaining on his deal and seems intent of playing at least those seasons, if we drafted a QB this season he would sign a four year contract. That means we would have to resign him the offseason he was slated to take over the starting job.

I agree with that logic for not drafting a 1st round QB, but a 3rd/4th round QB still makes sense to me as a Mallett replacement. Ideally we can move one of next years draft picks into 2016 and target our Brady replacement then. That would give them 2 years in the system and either 2 or 3 years under contract when Brady's deal expires.

I don't know if he's likely to declare until 2015 or 2016, but I want Christian Hackenburg. He had O'Brien and Saban fighting over him.

Hackenberg can declare in 2016. That kid's going to be a stud too. Supposedly he has built his body up and has come back with more muscle than he had last season. Excited to watch him this year.

Christian Hackenburg. you beat me to the punch ctpatsfan77.

Out of this year's group I think McCarron will be the best. Hackenburg is special though. I hope BB finds a way to get him once he's available.

If Hackenburg stays on his current trajectory, he's going #1 overall. Unless the team sucks in 2015 (unlikely aside from a Brady injury) or trades their entire draft, they're not getting him.

I'm also going to go out on the Manziel limb. I don't think he's a Leaf, I really don't.

That said, I don't see the Pats being in a position to take him. I also doubt they would.

We continue to act as if Brady has 4 more great years left (with no injuries), and that since no other scenario is possible, we will not plan for contingencies.

The time to draft a developmental 6th or 7th rounder was last year. Now, if we do so, we will need carry three quarterbacks. Belichick is viewing quarterbacks that would be the backup this year. We would then likely trade Mallett for a 3rd or 4th or 5ht, depending on how the market values him.

It is not likely that Belichick will get his quarterback in the first two rounds, but he might.
Bridgewater and McCarron seem to be fine options. There may be one or two more.

If I'm Belichick and Bridgewater falls to 29, I give VERY strong thought to pulling the trigger even considering that there are other far more pressing needs. Let this kid sit on the bench, learn the system, and build his body and strength up for the NFL behind the best in the business while Brady does his thing until he's ready to hang them up. Bridgewater is the most pro-ready QB in the draft. Imagine what he can do with a few years to fine tune his skills.

AJ hands down. I honestly think he could be a good to great heir for Brady. He has all the right mechanics, is smart, protects the football and is a winner. He is similar to Brady coming out of Michigan in the way both got no respect.

I would trade up a few spots if necessary for Bridgewater. We'd get the pick back by trading Mallett. Some have Bridgewater falling into the 20's. This would be a great situation for Bridgewater and for the patriots.

I wouldn't trade up in this draft. It's too deep at positions of need. If no Bridgewater, look for McCarron or Murray later on if you're Hell bent on getting a quarterback.

I don't want the Pats to draft a QB in the first 2 rounds because of the complete circus the Boston media would make out of it.

Then, you're keeping Mallett and using an extra QB spot.

If we trade up, the net draft choices are the same, presuming that the trade-up pick is equal to what we get from Mallett.

And yes, I AM INDEED hell bent on getting a quarterback. The alternative is to have no backup for 2015 that has been with the team.

Perhaps McCarron, Murray or one of the others is considered good enough to be our only backup for 2014. Then, we could draft a quarterback in the 2nd or 3rd and still trade Mallett.

Brian Hoyer is a UFA after this season and unless he has a breakout season (which is unlikely in my opinion), he will be available at reasonable rate. I would sign Hoyer to bridge the gap.

1. Teddy Bridgewater - Best QB in the draft. If BB/McDaniels think he's a potential franchise QB going forward they they need to consider him at 29.

2. I can see McDaniels being very intrigued by Manziel. Hard to justify him at 29 but It wouldn't surprise me at all.

3. Logan Thomas - A longshot but has fantastic upside. His size and athleticism which is Gronk/Jimmy Graham-ish means that if he busts at QB that he might still be able to transition to TE.

4. Keith Wenning - Outstanding touch passer and best long ball accuracy in the draft. Good mid-round option.

5. Kenny Guiton - plus character, plus intelligence, Guiton is my favourite long shot option in this draft.

6. Joe Clancy - Only seen limited tape but I love Clancy's potential. Excellent at the back shoulder.

I do not think we pretend anything I think we are all hopeful that Brady can play out the remaining four years of his contract. We could pay big money to retain Mallett if you are so concerned.

from a realistic standpoint of one we could actually get, either one of Mettenberger, Garoppolo or McCarron.

my favorite is Garoppolo

Any QB that keeps red seaters in their seats.

Trading up to the top half of the first round might get the Patriots a
worthy successor to Brady but would gut their 2014 and maybe their 2015 drafts. We would have a good reserve quarterback at the expense of
strengthening our offensive line, defensive line, linebackers, and tight ends.
We would probably also see our playoff run end due to the lack of young replacements. The suggested Mallett trade is not going to get us a #2 or #3 round pick. More likely a 6th round pick.

I do think the Patriots should expend a mid to late round pick on a quarterback and supplement that pick with a UDFA quarterback. By
doubling up, the Pats would have a better shot at a decent backup.

Only two real paths seem likely. Either draft some Darkhorse in the sixth or seventh round, with amazing poise and talent that no one else sees, that sits on the bench until Brady is retired or injured and then steps forward. Or wait 5 or six years until Brady finally loses it totally and the Pats tank the season and we are able to pick an amazing number one QB. Belichick is awesome, but we have been truly blessed to have Brady. (Or should it be Brady is awesome, but we have been truly blessed to have Belichick.)

Unfortunately, **** Rehbein is not around this time to find that Darkhiorse.

Whoever we can get with pick #244. Admittedly I have not looked at any QBs in this draft outside the top 5 and I am not impressed. If I don't believe a QB can be top 10 in this league I am not in favor of picking him up in any round.

I don't believe any of these QBs can do that consistently so I would rather spend the lowest draft capital possible and try for someone else next year if there is someone worth taking.
