Belichick Can't Have Much Faith In The Kids

... Or is boyce going too fast for the game

Did that DB try to TRIP Boyce on that play? LOL. Either way he burnt him bad.

I don't think this is showing lack of faith in the kids. It's BB digging up depth and competition for training camp. We'll probably look at 10 different WRs between the ones we already have, free agency, and the draft. And ony 5-6 of them will make the roster.

No need to overreact OP. I think 1-2 of our 'kids' will evolve. But there was a darn good reason to bring back Edelman - our best WR last season and our best PR. And LaFell gives us some Dobson insurance, he just got foot surgery if you didn't know.

Once again folks are implicitly assuming that all WRs mentioned will be healthy @ game one, etc. It's unlikely to be so and BB is looking at options with that in mind. I hope he is.

Are you implying that one of the glass menagerie might not be at 100% come week one?

To get 2 of those we'd likely have to draft two TEs between rounds 1-4 which I doubt they'll do. Unless they pull a trade off like last year with the Vikings and get several picks between those rounds.

I could see us grabbing Amaro/S-Jenkins in round 1 or 2, and then hopefully Colt Lyerla in the 6th or 7th. I want him real bad.

Aren't Lyerla's issues that he's a coke fiend or something? Might want to pass. He seems worse than Hernandez known issues coming out of college.

Swagger is nonsense ...

Bill Belichick, addressing the team during the Patriots 2002 season.

That's a great quote, where's it from?

Patriot Reign

Great reading for any and all NFL fans looking for something worthwhile to fill the void that is known as the off-season.

Thanks much to Zeus for the quote and giving me a reminder and reason to re-read Holley's book.

It's been a while. Some great quotes in the book, though more a work of journalism than a great book, if that makes sense.

Pretty unlikely Lyerla becomes a serial killer

The rookies showed promise last season especially Dobson. Unfortunately, he's coming off surgery and if he's not ready to go, he'll probably see a huge back step in progress. Thompkin faded towards the end due to injuries. In fact, all of them had some injuries and when you factor in Gronk and Amendola injury histories (and even Edelman who was finally healthy for the entire season), its no wonder that BB wants to stock up on receivers.

How many times has BB had to sign a receiver towards the middle of the season and basically plug the guy into the #2 slot?? Sign a bunch and see what shakes out during pre-season. No complacency.

I think most people would have said the same about Hernandez too.

I'm not saying Lyerla is going to become one, but the guy is supposedly addicted to coke. No thanks.

If he is there in the 5th round or later I think it would at least be discussed.

He really is a 1st round talent. But I expect him to end up on Chip's roster.

I think a lot of people are undervaluing Thompkins. He gets open and beats CBs when they try to jam him. He fell off the map when he fell on his hip, but at that point, Brady was only throwing to Edelman.

Lets see the competition, a full year in the Patriots system should work wonders for a lot of these players.

Rookie WRs almost never perform well. Lets see the year 2 jump. The more WRs in the mix the better.

This is a difference of opinions. I'm no expert, so my opinion may be wrong--and yours right, but this is what I saw:

--lack of ability to beat man coverage worth a damn

--failure to run sharp routes, as many of them were sloppy and rounded

--back shoulder throw? forget about it

--no YACs, although he's not really that "type" of receiver either

--failure to build on any chemistry with Brady, seemed to go backwards

It's sometimes thought that Thompkins lost his job simply due to just his hip injury, but if you look at the snaps counts before that, he had lost it prior also.

Thompkins will have the opportunity to earn his spot in TC, but the competition will be much better this time around, while will make it a lot more difficult in 2014.

So many delusional people thinking that Thompkins and Dobson and Boyce are equipped enough to go through an entire season and win a SB. Dobson and Thompkins were both leading the league in drops last season before they both had injury problems that kept them out of games. Dobson was maybe the biggest choke artist receiver I've ever seen for a rookie. His hands were like stone to the point that it seemed like Brady was going to have to get carted off the field due to the stress of so many plays that fell apart due to Dobson ****ting the bed. Thompkins had slightly better hands, but disappeared like he was a magician. He was at least a UDFA, so it was somewhat expected. If the Patriots could just get a guy who could consistently stretch the field their bread and butter in the middle would be beautiful.

Texx did you not make it past game 5 of last season? Dobson's drops were during his first couple games, same with kenbrells. Then miraculously, they were coming on strong until injuries hit, especially Dobson!

And it's too early to say they will always be injured after 1 season.

Oh stfu up troll. Half of Dobson's drops came in that wet Jets game.

LOL.

To answer your question, Texx's team did not make it past game 3 of the season last year. And they are the SECOND team in their state (waaaaaayyyy behind the first).

When your team goes 2-14, there is something pathetic about going to a 12-4 team's fan board to ***** and moan about their personnel.

Hey Texx - - - KUBIAK!!!!!!!!! :D

IMO, BB is probably counting on Dobson to be our #1/#2 since the only WR on the roster proven to produce as a starting caliber WR is Edelman, and that was just one season out of five.

And at the moment he is counting to Dobson/Boyce to at least compete for the #5 spot. Could be higher given DA's unreliability and Lafell's contract which indicates they are clearly not relying on him as a long term solution.

Elaborate a bit, Patsy. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what you're saying. Maybe it's just been a long day for me.

Amendola has had 85 catches and 63 catches (in 11 games in 2012). Those seem to be numbers that warrant a "starting caliber" WR, as do LaFell's 50 catches and 5 TDs last season as well.

I know that Edelman had a great season last year, but considering him the only WR capable of starting caliber production seems to be a bit of a stretch, considering that he's only had one healthy season himself.

Yeah. I don't think there's any doubt that Amendola, Edelman, and LaFell are proven starting caliber NFL receivers.

Actually, I'd put Dobson in that category, too, based on his rookie production. The question mark there is how he will recover from foot surgery and what kind of gains he sees in year 2.

Looking at WRs Dobson, LaFell, Edelman, Amendola and Slater are all locks Boyce, Thomkins and Harrison all fighting for spots.

Side note on Dobson- Not many WRs in the NFL have his deep speed, he is a total burner. I don't really care about his foot injury, let him work on his upper body.

It would be awesome if in the Denver game, Talib gets lit up by Thompkins of all people.
