In any case, the team leaked that they are not interested in restructuring Mankins and moving cap money forward.
As you implied, the team would like a clean choice in the next two off-seasons. Each year, the team will decide whether Mankins is worth $7M of new money. If not, Mankins will take a reduction in compensation or be cut, saving $7M for which they presumably could sign another top OG.

I honestly don't think they want to extend or make his cap number higher in 2015-2016
