Looks like Suggs has gotten a new deal with the Ravens. Didn't really matter to us since the odds of him signing with the Pats are slim to none.

Also, looks like the 49ers and Aquan Boldin are working on a deal to keep him in San Fran. The Pats might have pursued him aggressively if he started free agency without a deal.

Sure.

And, as we know from last year, the team also believes that.

The result is that he will play somewhere else.

As long as he isn't asking for too much, I can get jiggy with Will Smith.

They aren't afraid to pay. Unfortunately, many times it is the wrong guy. What they gave Shaun Ellis a few years ago should be enough to get a guy like Will Smith. That is unless the market explodes.

Abraham took less than that from Arizona.

Yeah, the odds of SF allowing Boldin to walk were slim to none in my opinion.

They'd have to be complete morons to allow someone that dependable to walk considering the money that they are looking at paying him, which is assumed to be in the ballpark of about 4-5m per year AAV.

And if SF allowed Boldin to walk, I would give the same odds for him signing with the Patriots.

I think BB needs to do whatever it takes to sign Tony G. Would be a huge difference maker, especially when paired with Gronk, and also said that he is willing to come back to a contender. I don't think there is a better team for him to go to.

First off, his rights are still retained by ATL, so Belichick would have to work something out with not only Dimitroff, but also with Gonzalez as well. I think it's definitely work inquiring about, and would instantly upgrade our receiving options. I just don't think it's too likely of actually happening. We should probably just file this one under the fantasy section of the forum.

No thanks, he said he would think about coming back to a contender late in the season. He isn't willing to put in the work that everyone else is and he shouldn't be on their team. Draft a TE high to replace The Prisoner and maybe even sign one in free agency, or double dip in the draft.

While this is probably a much more likely scenario (and one that I wouldn't mind at all), I also think that Belichick has proven that he can work well with older veterans in terms of letting them come to TC at the end, etc.

If the money is right, Gonzalez may feel a bit differently about showing up to training camp late in the summer on an agreement with Belichick. Sometimes the body starts to feel better after a couple of months of the offseason, and all we'd really need would be one last season from him.

I would have to say that there's a very slim chance of it actually happening, though.

I agree. It seems that we decided to pass on that situation in 2009 or 2010, or whenever he initially hit the market coming from ARZ. That was the shot right there.

The Boldin news is dissapointing. He was the #1 FA WR IMO and was my #2 FA target behind Talib.

That leaves the projected 7-9 million a year softie and a bunch of glass/overrated at WR for free agency. I'll pass.

It will be interesting to see how Maclin's market is now. He says that he hopes that he can stay in Philly, and that he'll be able to contribute to the spring OTA workouts, as long as there's no contact. He says that he'll 100% no doubt be totally able to have contact again by TC though. I think he's about the only other guy I'd want to pay around 5m per season on a short-term, "prove it" offer.

I'd still be interested in a guy like Nicks, but not much more than that 5m dollar rate. That will likely make the situation very tough, since they may warrant more money than that, depending on how the market goes.

We may end up having to take a shot on one of those low risk/higher reward type of guys like Britt (puke).

A lower risk shot like Edelman seems preferable.

Any team that pays anything close to $5 million for one season of Hakeem Nicks should have their heads examined. I wouldn't pay half that for him after he sleepwalked through a contract year and blew off medical treatments. Tom Coughlin basically called him a dog in front of the entire NY football media and it didn't change a thing. If he's willing to come play for far less than what he thinks he should make I'd consider it, but even then I'd be wary.

I'm much more excited about Maclin, a guy with something to prove who seems eager to prove it.

That is a whole other can of worms, however.

It will depend on whether or not Edelman is willing to take less to stay here and/or whether or not Belichick is willing to pay BOTH Amendola and Edelman (when Amendola seemed to put up exactly 1/2 of his total on 1/2 the targets, with a much higher 1st down rate, along with a higher YPC).

Some may argue that Edelman saw his stats go up while our offense took a solid couple of steps backwards; therefore, it'd be difficult to pay him market value, along with the debatable redundancy that some see with both Amendola/Edelman on the field taking up a nice portion of reps. No one knows how Belichick feels.

We will find out soon enough, of course.

Thoughts on acquiring Mercedes Lewis?

I'd be much more excited with Maclin too, no doubt.

I just used a roundabout, ball park figure with Nicks due to the fact that last offseason his projections were 10+ million AAV. He was seen as one of the top market free agents at his position, and many were excited about the prospects of him hitting free agency.

I used a 5m dollar projection due to the fact that it was about 1/2 of what many felt his going rate was, and the fact that he's still representing a field stretching, physical receiver. I agree that he will likely not see 5m AAV. Feel free to subtract whatever you feel is necessary, but I'm not going to go much below 3.5--4m myself.

I don't know much about him in terms of smarts, attitude, etc.

Others brought it up last week though. Depending on the value/price, (as a fan) I would be willing to consider most players.

He may be something that Belichick decides to look at, if the price is right. I'd still want to take another TE in the draft though, too. Some of those TEs in the draft have me salivating.

Abraham took less than that from Arizona.

Yeah, but Abraham refused to accept the market value for him and waited forever to sign with anyone. By the time he realized his market value, the Pats had moved on. He didn't sign with the Cards until July 25th.

My guess is that if he accepted the realities of his market value when he met with the Pats, he would have signed with the Pats.

He wasn't a free agent. The Ravens traded for Boldin. They gave up a 3rd and 4th round pick and then gave him a huge contract. They gave him an extension which ended up giving him four years for $28 million.

That was a lot to give up for Boldin at the time. He was a 1,000 yard receiver, but not considered more than very good. And the Ravens really didn't get their money's worth out of him since he didn't get over 900 yards either of his first two years in Baltimore.

I want to say no to Delmas, seeing as we have the best FS in the league.....but I can't.

SIGN THE BEAST!

Cousin Brit. I agree but think he was playing out of position on the Lions. He would be a better SS because he can patrol with force and is a decent tackler. Teamed with McCourty, it would make sense if he stays healthy. He is still young and a definite upgrade over anyone else on our roster to play next to McCourty. We don't really play SS and FS. It's left or right.

I see Antrel Rolle as the only other possibility and a CAP cut or restructure but the Giants also have Stevie Brown for cheaper money (take either). The Giants also need a RB and if we can pry Rolle and restructure him, why not dangle Ridley?

The problem with Delmas is a lack of consistency. If you think being in NE can cure that, he becomes worth a look. If you think he's too far into his career to really correct the consistency issues, he needs to be avoided like the plague.
