Monday Night Football: Baltimore Ravens at Detroit Lions - preview and prediction

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

Suh is arguably the most talented 4-3 DT in the NFL. His problems are consistency and dirty play, which is the same as the team in general. IF BB had a guy like that playing next to a healthy Wilfork, we'd be looking at something similar to the Wilfork/Seymour days.

Fortunately for the rest of the league, the Lions have let him get away with being a chucklehead, to the detriment of the team.

Suh is pretty unimpressive when you watch him - he takes himself out of position against the run, and doesn't rush the passer consistently enough to make up for it. I guess 'talented' could cover a lot of things, and from a tools standpoint there's certainly an argument to be made, but he just doesn't put all those tools together and probably never will.

Compare that to someone like Gerald McCoy, who uses his toolbox to consistently dominate on every play.

Re: Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

First. We don't know if Solder is out.

Second, I think the Pats can certainly win this game. This Ravens team is not the 2000 Ravens. The Pats are certainly capable of beating the Ravens. They probably should have lost tonight if the refs called PI in the end zone like they should have and Megatron didn't drop so many balls.

Third, it is likely to be swirling winds this time of the year in Baltimore. Flacco is like Manning when it comes to wind. Add to the fact that he got injured tonight, he could be off al next week.

Don't forget three free points at the half and being the champs. How many sb champs the last twenty years didn't even make the play offs?
I wasn't even watching the garbage ol calls, outside of that screen before the sixty yard field goal...our if the pass isn't caught there's no penalty, kind of like if the pass is intercepted there's no penalty...The officiating this year is horrendous. Going to dvr add many games as possible next week, not sure when I'll be able to go through them and throw up skull the blown calls though...

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

Ratbirds won't even make playoffs anyway, we'll beat them next week and they'll lose to Cinci.

Chargers are going to get in because the Dolphins will blow it.

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

All three playing the ball, receiver diving back for it through two defenders.

How can you play the ball when your head isn't even turned around? He was literally pushing the guy upfield. Even Gruden who complains about PI calls constantly said it was obvious PI.

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

Iam as bummed by the lions loss today as was the pats game yesterday. Really wanted the 'Y' against the pats.

I am not guaranteeing a win, but I don't get this Chicken Little attitude. The Ravens are a good, not a great team.

There is nothing chicken little about this. IMO they are better team than the pats especially with the walking infirmary we have. May not be the 2000 ravens but we arent the 2012 pats either right now. Can the pats beat them ? Sure. They have been in every game this yr. Odds are definitely against us. Thats my opinion at least.

I think their offense is just as bad as a the Pats' defense and their defense let Cassel to light them up in the fourth quarter two weeks ago.

I wasn't all that impressed with them last night. They barely beat a team in free fall with their best player dropping balls while being wide open. Again, they are a good team, but not a great team. If Dobson and/or Thompkins play, I think this Patriots team is better and can beat the Ravens.

But I have been reading your posts all season, you have been down on this team long before a lot of the injuries.

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

What exactly is the doomsday scenario for the 2013 Pats?

Baltimore wins next 2, Miami wins next 2 and NE loses to Buf. That's it right?

If we lose to Baltimore in Baltimore but the game is competitive, I can live with it albeit not happily. If we lose to Buff in NE with the division/playoffs on the line? Likely the single biggest regular season loss of the BB era and undoubtedly the most painful one. I don't see it but if it happens? Triple staffing at the suicide hotline, it's going to be utter pandemonium.

That may be your impression. I cant be more proud of this team than any past season. They are virtually playing with 2nd and 3rd stringers and doing more than anyone expected . I just feel they are running out of bodies right now to compete in this crucial juncture.

When I said down on the team, I meant that you have been predicting losses or at least potential losses on a regular basis throughout the season. Not that you hate the team. Even before the loss of Gronk and a few others.

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

had a quick look around the mediots, not a single person is talking about any of the "gift win" calls the ravens got all night

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

That was a tough hard hitting emotional game the ravens won. Hopefully it took something out of them. I remember a stat from years ago about winners of Monday night games, they went on to lose they're next game. I don't know if that holds true any longer but i hope so.

Re: Big MNF Game - Ravens at Lions 12-16-2013

Brutal missed call. How was that arm bar not PI?

Affected the gam'e outcome. 4 point swing.
I'm losing faith in the NFL as it morphs into the NBA where calls and non-calls despite the written rules affect playoff seeds.

To his credit, Trent Dilfer after the game pointed out that the non-PI call in the end zone and how if Calvin Johnson held onto the three passes he dropped, it probably would have been a different game.

Didnt ESPN surprisingly have a montage of all the calls that gone the ravens way since the SB ?
Yet you will hear this week from suggs and ngata and all how brady gets all the calls.

I heard on the radio this morning that the Ravens were stuck in Detriot until 2:30 in the morning because of ice conditions. I don't think it will make a huge difference, but it certainly doesn't help them prepare and recover on a short week.

The first .GIF is of the FG. The second is of the INT return. I like that compromise -- run it back because that's what your instinct is, but slide when you get within getting-tackled range.

Saints got stuck before the Carolina game and had no issues. I don't think that or the "short" week will affect them.

I think the biggest change is the timing of these bad calls. More and more, it seems that the calls are having huge impacts on games. The Patriots have now lost to NY/CAR/MIA specifically because of bad calls (or calls badly made). That doesn't mean that the Patriots would have definitely won those games, but the poor officiating insured that they'd lose them.

Maybe Goodell can work on fixing that instead of worrying that he needs to fine players $50k+ when their perfect tackles result in a clinking of helmets.

That's what I see. Those bad calls seem to change the momentum of a game.
