The 2014 Mock draft Thread.

What's with the Purifoy to Fuller switch? I know your last mock was Seniors only but you don't make that distinction this time. Do you now prefer Fuller over Purifoy?
As for now, Seniors only. I am currently on the fence with Purifoy since he is somewhat raw as a cornerback.

Needs: QB-Slight/Mallett is an upcoming FA/trade-bait, need another QB project
RB- Moderate/Have the quantity of RBs in Ridley, Vereen, Bolden, Blount, and now Cierre Wood but Ridley/Bolden has fumbling problems, Ridley/Vereen are also upcoming FAs and I believe only Vereen will get extended
WR- Moderate/ Dobson looks pretty good so far and Thompkins has shown flashes of greatness but Edelman is an upcoming FA and Amendola is always injured, even with that said we still have Mark Harrison and T.J. Moe "in the system", decide for yourself
TE- Pretty high/ Gronk is a monster when he's actually on the field and Hooman is a FA, Depth is needed, possible double dip IMO
O-line- Vollmer and Solder are staying as tackles with Cannon as a versatile back-up along with Mankins but Center and RG look like places of need, Center may be taken over by Braxston Cave, a versatile linemen who can also LS and save a roster spot, I'd draft a G just to be safe in the late rounds, let Dante work his magic
DE- Moderate/ Jones is a rising star and Nink is great against the run but Buchanon is a project and JB looks like a huge bust, I'd draft a pass-rushing DE in 2014
DT- Low/ Most fans see this as a major need but I don't, we have Big Vince and Tommy Kelly starting with nice depth with Armstead, Sopoaga, Vellano, Chris Jones and AJ Francis as nice depth, I'd possible draft a star DT only preparing for the future in 2014
OLB- Moderate/High- Hightower is becoming a great player and Collins is unproven, BB needs to draft a coverage LB badly, been an issue for a while now
MLB- Moderate/High-Mayo will be back in time to start but Spikes is a FA, who I hope we re-sign, but sucks in coverage as well
CB- Talib is a FA(we need to resign), and Dennard looks to be a future star with Ryan developing as well but Cole and Arrington (who will stick around) absolutely suck
S- Low- McCourty is about to get his big pay day extension from NE and Gregory will stick around after a way better season, don't forget about the hard-hitting Adrian Wilson as well with developing safeties Tavon Wilson and Duron Harmon behind them

R1. De'Anthony Thomas/RB,WR,KR,PR/Oregon- Fastest, most versatile player, BB will love this guy, works real vwell out of the slot and fixes the returning problems
R2. Darqueze Dennard/CB/MSU- Alfonzo's cousins, physical ball-hawk, plays smart
R3. Andrew Jackson/MLB/WKU- Brandon Spikes 2.0, hard hitting LB that can force turnovers and hit the QB
R4. Josh Mauro/DE/Stanford- huge pass-rusher with great mind to learn
R6. Arthur Lynch/TE/UGA- huge blocking TE with great hands, strong body
R6. Jacob Pedersen/TE/Wisconsin- double dip on two hue TEs, both great Gronk type TEs
R6. Aaron Murray/QB/UGA- falling down most boards because of his size and decision making, Murray is the future after Brady, one of the greatest SEC QBs ever
R6. Trey Millard/FB/Oklahoma- coming off a torn ACL, he is a way more athletic Vereen, watch as they run circles around oposing defenses creating even more confusion to a hurry-up offense
R7. John Urschel/G/PSU- real smart, huge guard from Bill O'Brien's PSU team
UDFAs to consider:

D'Anthony Thomas is softer than Charmin. Lord no. I like Trey Millard but he's not way more athletic than Shane Vereen. In fact, he's not even as athletic as him. Vereen is a halfback who has the ball skills of a wr. Millard is kind of a 21st century Tom Rathman. Maybe not quite as tough. But, can run, block and catch the ball. Athleticism isn't anywhere near a halfback level. In fact, I don't think he was good enough running the ball to be the rb in a one-back offense. I'd like him to pair with Ridley/Vereen because of his versatility.

Would you rather take Dennard in the first and a pass-rusher (Murphy, Stinson, Jeffcoat, Calhoun) or WR (Robinson, Landry, Beckham, Coleman, Moncrief) in the second? No way BB takes a WR in the first round and I doubt he'll take a DE with Jones and Nink, maybe a DT like the falling Nix and Sutton or the rising DaQuan Jones. I doubt he takes a TE too, BB isn't the type of guy to show his biggest weakness after an AH-type case. So with that said, doubt BB takes Ebron, Amaro (not entering), or Lee. I would like to see BB take either Shazier (who can help with LB coverage) or Roby (who is a boom or bust IMO) or even a UF CB. But odds are BB will deal down for four extra picks or maybe another first in 2015.

I think the better term for Millard would be versatile more than athletic. He is a good athlete, but its his versatility that makes him a stud. Its a shame he got hurt because I love him as a player and would have taken him as high as the 3rd round, although he could be a steal now. On D'Anthony Thomas, I'm not a fan of taking those kinds of guys high in the draft. Sure he can do a lot of things, but what is the one thing he does really well to get him on the field. Is he going to line up at RB ahead of Ridley or Vereen? Is he going to line up in the slot over Amendola or Edelman? Would he return punts over Edelman? He is certainly an explosive weapon but I just see no value in taking those guys high, just like I wouldn't have touched Tavon Austin. 3rd/4th/5th rounds sure, take a chance on a guy that can probably help you a little bit in a lot of ways, but for a high pick I want a guy that is going to be on the field a lot and I just don't see that out of a player like Thomas.

What do you mean BB wouldn't "show his biggest weakness". So if TE is a weakness he wouldn't draft it high because other teams would then realize it's a weakness? That makes no sense to me. Other teams are smart enough to figure out who they're playiing against. He wouldn't strengthen his greatest weakness because he would think it gives the opposition information?

Doubt he'd draft a super undersized DT like Sutton. How do you know Amaro isn't entering?

None of us have ever figured BB out..LOL I'd take Ebron if he's on the board and we're picking. Jamie Collins is that coverage lb isn't he? Don't want to duplicate his skill set. My skin breaks out in a rash when the subject of db's comes up. I'd like to re-up Talib and pass on them. An interior OL or DL is looking like a good possibility. Tuitt has eaten himself up to a dt. I'd rather him than Nix in today's NFL.

Put it this way, since Hernandez was arrested BB hasn't addressed the need in the slightest for another AH-type TE, I doubt he wants to show that the arrest affected his team this much, he'll take at least a TE later on but I doubt he'll do it in the first, he'll probably deal down anyways. I still like Sutton, think he is a strong pass-rusher that can stuff the run as well but Amaro said the other week that he won't enter in 2014, he can still obviously change his mind but that's how he stands now.

It's like saying teams without a franchise QB shouldn't take one in the top few picks because it will show other teams the weakness. It makes no sense.

Other teams don't care if someone left your team, they can only play the players you have. And it's been more than obvious we have missed some production from the TEs. I'm pretty sure no opponent could miss it.

And Hernandez was a great player with an unique skill set. If someone actually could do the same things he did he wouldn't have been on the market, it's not just someone you pick up off the street unless you are very very lucky.

Keep dreaming about Nix falling out of the top ten

Our top pick in the 2013 draft is going to do that.

well it doesn't preclude them from getting another linebacker who can "do that". It's unusual for linebackers to be 260 pounds and run a 5.0. Makes them near useless in pass coverage.

I'm going to do another draft though.

1. Trade down for 2nd and pick next year

2. Dennard Mich state CB
2b. Donte Moncrief WR Miss - 6'2" 225 a little like Boldin a little like Hernandez

3. Xavier Grimble TE - USC
4. Gabe Ikard - C Oklahoma
5. Ty Zimmerman FS -
6. Austin Wentworth T/G
